3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage with estuary and sea views located on The Quay
About Carrie C.
Hi, my name is Carrie and I bought Margaret Cottage in the summer of 2016 in memory of my late mum, Margaret. She loved the UK coastline, particularly North Devon and had spent many, many happy holidays rambling and walking around it's beautiful landscapes. Mum had always wanted to live by the sea, so I thought it the perfect legacy to buy a holiday let property so many more people can enjoy this fabulous part of our country. My partner and I live with our young daughter in Berkshire, we both work fulltime and thoroughly enjoy letting Margaret Cottage and of course visiting ourselves from time to time (aka as much as possible!).
Carrie C. purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Carrie C. chose Appledore
Margaret Cottage provides a very unique combination of factors hard to find in one property in Appledore; the convenient Quay side location, large living space, the uninterupted amazing view and dedicated parking! Appledore itself has a unique buzz, it has award winning delicatessens and cafes, great pubs and of course fish n chip shops. But Appledore is special, with it's 'Open Door' effect and many special events happening throughout the year it attracts visitors all year round. It is also a great base to explore North Devon.
What makes this Cottage unique
Margaret Cottage has the unbeatable combination of a prime Quay location, unmissable views and spacious yet cosy living areas inside. Our guests always comment on the decor and attention to detail inside which makes the cottage so welcoming and comfortable to stay in.

Perfect holiday home
We had the best holiday in this pretty and spacious cottage. It is well equipped and our 2 year old granddaughter loved the toys, her 'holiday house' and her holiday bed. The location is great, and we made good use of the wonderful John's shops and cafe. We very much hope to return to the lovely Appledoreand Margaret Cottage. Thank you for our great stay.
Thank you Jackie- you are all always welcome at Margaret Cottage too! See you next time! Carrie
Gem of a cottage on the quay
This was our third stay at Margaret Cottage. We love the house - very cosy, well appointed and literally steps from the estuary. The location is perfect for exploring beautiful North Devon and Appledore itself is a fabulous seaside village with great pubs and restaurants.
Hi Lisa, was great to have you stay again at Margaret Cottage and thank you very much for leaving another lovely review - see you next year!
Margaret Cottage is comfy, well-equipped, and a really pleasant place to stay. It's so convenient for all amenities, and John's of Appledore is next door, what more can I say?! All of us enjoyed our holiday, and appreciated all the thoughtful home comforts that were provided.
Home from home
Property is excellent and would stay again.
Somewhere we will definitely return to
Lots of personal touches make this cottage extra special , and the Nicky , the cottage manager was so helpful on our arrival .
It is perfectly situated in beautiful Appledore looking over the estuary , with fantastic places to eat on the doorstep .
We stayed for a long weekend and found it one of the most relaxing breaks we have ever had .
We are already planning to come back the same time next year .
Our third stay
Love the location and layout of the cottage. Problems with the dishwasher and shower spoiled it a bit plus a dirty oven. All fed back and understand some refurb is due. Still love Appledore
Hi Melanie, thank you for your honest feedback and review.
I know you raised all the issues with Nickie and dutifully they were passed on to me. The oven, I believe Nickie admitted was human oversight, but none the less not up to our expected standard of cleanliness for which we apologise.
The dishwasher breaking down on you is so unfortunate, we have already replaced it with a shiny new one so future guests can be assured the old one has been laid to rest.
Also, the shower tray and surrounding tiling was already booked in for maintenance as the water mark on the ceiling below had alerted us to an issue previously. It is again a shame that this decided escalate to a dripping leak during your stay .
So all in all, all things are fixable however please do accept my personal apologies for any disappointment you experienced.
We have taken it all on and actioned your feedback immediately.
Great choice of places to eat (all family friendly) within 5 - 10 minutes walking distance of the cottage in Appledore:
The Seagate Hotel (pub and dining rooms, cosy and welcoming - dog friendly in the bar area; we always come here on our arrival night in Appledore to celebrate), The Royal George (refurbished stunning waterside dining and bar, really great food), Johns of Appledore (amazing local deli and a cafe for breakfast and lunch), The Coffee Cabin, (cafe for breakfast and lunch - my fave for brunch, also does great cakes!), Flame Factory (traditonal delicious wood fired pizza restaurant and takewaway 2 doors down from the cottage), Market Street Kitchen (fab place for lunch or coffee and Devon Cream Teas), The Royal Plaice Fish and Chip Restaurant (and takeaway), Sylvesters Fish and Chips (takeaway), The Beaver (pub) and The Champ (pub).
Then over in Instow - The Boathouse does great seafood, (also has great roof top sun terrace), Instow Arms ( fab food, we go here whenever we fancy mussels and fries )
