Why Lori Schuchard chose Stanchfield
We have lots of room to enjoy the outdoors in a quiet, private setting.
We loved our stay! Nice sandy beach and great fishing off the dock. We hope to return next year!
The cabin was even better than the photos - we couldn't believe it when we walked in and saw the cozy log interior. Beautifully furnished, super well-equipped kitchen, and lots of room for games and fun bonding time! Also loved having a lake and bonfire pit right out back, plus a dock close by for keeping a boat and heading out on the bigger lakes. Marty was so nice about taking us over to the dock and answering questions. It was a wonderful getaway, celebrating our 25th anniversary with friends. Thank you for the new memories we will treasure, Lori and Marty!
Perfect place for our family gathering!!

Great Family Vacation Spot
We stayed here for 4 nights last week, 11 people total. There was plenty of room for all of us, although some had to use an air mattress in the living room. No big deal at all. The owners are very nice and helpful, and want to make your trip great.
The cabin had everything you need to feed and clean. You do not need to bring any utensils at all unless you want too. There is a blender, Crockpots, pots and pans, cutting boards, etc. The only thing I would recommend is bringing some ice trays. We use a lot of ice, and had to go get ice to store in coolers for the week as the ice machine just couldn't keep up.The kitchen is roomy and lots of room to prepare and put out food.
The bedrooms are smaller, but who really cares? All we did was sleep in them anyways, so it wasn't a problem. There is plenty of bedding for everyone, but you may want to bring a favorite pillow or blanket. There is also circular vent on the ceiling that can be loosened or tightened for temp control.
The upstairs bathroom is small, and you can hear and smell everything that goes on in there. The downstairs bathroom has a really nice shower, but it is kind of small too, and does get steamy rather quickly. Running the vent fan during a shower and opening the door after really helped with the steam. The water heater seemed to keep up pretty well too. There are towels provided, so you can save packing room on that. I would suggest bringing a pack of toilet paper just in case. It is provided, but may not last depending on how many people you have staying. Be sure to hold the handle down on the toilets for a little longer than usual to make sure it flushes everything down.
The firepit and beach area is great. Our son spent pretty much all day playing in the sand and water. There is a good size weedless area around the dock for swimming and boat launching. There is a canoe, paddleboat, and a small aluminum boat to use, as well as life jackets. You may want to bring you own life jackets as what's there may not fit everyone. We put a 2.3 horse motor on the fishing boat, and were able to get around the small lake pretty good with that.
We caught multiple sunfish off the dock, some big enough to eat. Great for the kids. A small white plastic grub with a small hook was the bait of choice. I pulled a 32" Northern out as well.
The dock they have on Rush Lake is easy to get to, and the public launch is not very far away either.
Overall, a great place to stay with great owners.
Fun for family getaway!
Great log cabin! Two families (4 adults + 6 young kids) stayed comfortably. The house is clean, well-stocked, and the kids LOVED the beach, paddle boat, and large yard. The horses next door were a fun attraction for the kids, too :). It was easy to cook and easy to do laundry when needed. A great escape not too far from the cities!!
Be aware that cell service may not be great depending on your provider, but that’s ok for a cabin! (I had AT&T). Also, they do provide a basic pressure baby gate for the top of the stairs which was very thoughtful, but you may want to bring along something that will be more secure around the uneven / natural wooden posts if you plan on going up and down the stairs often for infant naps, etc. Something like the Stair Barrier might work because it has buckle straps on both sides that might wrap all the way around the posts?
Overall we had a lovely trip!!
Was not disappointed.
We enjoyed the privacy, the large yard to play yard games. The kitchen was wonderful, had everything we needed. Very spacious. Would highly recommend!
