The villa is located in Gallou village, on the outskirts of Rethymno town, in a totally private area and it is within walking distance to the village centre. The surrounding hill slopes are richly verdant with diverse flora and oak forests.
The village was important during all the different historical periods of the island. The importance of the area in the Byzantine era is obvious as the visitor can see from the rebuilt ruins of the Byzantine Monastery of Saint Paul and Saint Peter.
The Venetians and the Turks also recognized its importance, inhabiting the village where their different architectural styles can still be seen. The name of the village is already given in Venetian documents as Gallou.
The newer part of Gallou hosts 2 mini markets and a great traditional tavern. Also, four well-maintained tennis court are located 1 kilometer away. More shops, seafront restaurants and supermarkets are only a couple of minutes away by car (3 km) in the Koumbes area at the start of Rethymno town. Koumbes also has the closest sandy beach to the villa; however the long sandy Rethymno beach which has greater facilities, is only 6 km away.
Furthermore, the villa's location provides a great base for making excursions around Crete as the main national highway is only a few minutes away.
