About Tad Whittaker
I came to Alaska in 1999 for a summer job & fell in love with the state and all that it has to offer. I’ve been able to view glaciers/wildlife/Denali and many other incredible sights. I enjoy taking ATV rides on extended camping trips as well as the occasional fishing trip, naturally. (-: I’m pleased to offer relaxing and low stress accommodations that will provide the best opportunity for you to get the most out of your once in a lifetime trip to Alaska.
Tad Whittaker purchased this Cabin in 2011

Cabin close to Denali
Great host, easy check-in, close to Denali. Tad was easy to communicate with, available, and provided quite a few breakfast items which cane in handy. Tight for 6 of us, using 1 bathroom, but we still enjoyed the cabin, the setting, and the proximity to Denali. Would definitely stay here again if we come back.
Good location, Needs cleaning & new furniture.
I booked this cabin with my wife and my newly retired parents for a family vacation. lt is a good location from Denali National Park. About a 15 minute drive to the park entrance. I thought the cabin was going to be a little more secluded, but there is 1 other cabin, and 1 other house on the same property which are both about 20 yards from the cabin's porch. You can also see the two neighboring houses on both sides of the property. Check in was easy. The main problem we had was the cleanliness of the cabin. The couch has stains all over it and the pillows. We put one of the extra sheets over it before sitting down. The padding of the couch was very worn also - just an old nasty couch. The chair had a large tear in the left arm of it so you could see the brown stuffing from inside it. There is like a 60" TV in a fairly small living room, and we all thought why didn't the owner buy some new furniture instead of a big TV. There was alot of dust all over the cabin... As in actual bundles of dust on the wooden trim used on the walls. This was our first impression as we walked in then we began to look around and inspect more because I was already planning on calling VRBO. There were no kitchen utensils like spatulas, only regular forks and spoons. The sponge that was at the kitchen sink was used and there was black hairs intertwined into it, and also what I assumed to be left over scrambled eggs in it as well. I went to use one of the pans and it was not clean, it still had grease on it. The coffee maker was a Keurig that was half filled with water, and we did not use it because it looked like the water had been there for a while. We wanted to cancel the entire reservation and go book a regular hotel in Denali instead. However, this property was non refundable so we ended up going to the grocery store and buying paper plates, cups, cleaning supplies, and a cheap coffee pot. I contacted VRBO and they said they could not offer a refund that only the owner could. VRBO offered to send someone out to clean it for us but did not know how long it would take. And we were only in Denali for 3 nights so we would have been out of the cabin with all our suit cases for one of our days. It was just very inconvenient. VRBO did give us $100 for the cleaning supplies we bought.
I'm so sorry to hear about this. I wish you would have reached out upon arrival or at any point during your stay so I could address your concerns, even if it was simply to let you know which cabinet had the large utensils and to do some touch up cleaning. I wanted to let you know I appreciate your feedback and that I will also reach out to VRBO to see why your concerns were not passed on to me during your stay. The furniture in this cabin was scheduled for replacement this winter, but I’m bumping that schedule up and am replacing it this month.
Thank you again for the feedback and I wish you nothing but the best.
Tad was super helpful- had some breakfast items for us to start with which was great- even sent his son over with jelly when I asked -if any was available- would suggest a box of tissues and a kitchen towel but that's a minor thing. would stay again
Perfect cabin for Denali National Park visit
A well-maintained, compact cabin, ideal for a family, located within a 20 minute drive from the Denali visitor center. Tad was a perfect host, incredibly responsive to emails, accommodated an early check-in at our request, had the refrigerator stocked with basics for a starter breakfast (first time I have experienced that at a VRBO location). Highly recommended for anyone planning a visit to Denali National Park.
Perfect location to our excursions at Denali. The cabin was beautiful with great amenities. Tad was very easy to contact and responded to questions in a timely manner. We would definitely stay here again if in the area and would highly recommend this place to stay while in Denali.
Located a short drive from the Entrance to Denali National Park. The entrance to Denali National Park is at Mile 237. The road the cabins are on is at mile 252.
