About this property

Cosy Farm Cottage in the Heart of Dorset

Cosy farm cottage, full of character and period features, with a modern light and airy extension opening directly onto the private garden and terrace. This former estate gardener’s cottage has been lovingly renovated and redecorated throughout.

Hidden away in the woods on a working family farm in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Garden Cottage is also just a couple of miles from town and 30 minutes from the Jurassic coast. Family friendly and great for a group of friends.

Garden Cottage is ideal for visiting Dorset, and includes fast broadband and a comfortable workspace for work-from-home needs.

Furnished with an eclectic mix of modern and period furniture, the house has three bedrooms – one with king size bed, two with double bed. Original stripped pine doors and detailing in the original cottage. Large and airy open plan space for kitchen and dining.

Upstairs:
The master bedroom features a fine upholstered headboard to the king sized bed. The compact second bedroom, with Victorian fireplace and pine panelling, has a double bed.

The third bedroom at the end of the landing has a double bed with ornate metal bed frame in white.

The bathroom offers a large bath and separate power shower.

The stairs are original so relatively narrow compared with a modern house.

Ground floor:
Large modern extension with fully-fitted kitchen, seating area, and dining area with dining table seating six comfortably.

Well-equipped kitchen with aga, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric hob and oven, and larder.

French doors open directly onto the large private terrace and garden, with bbq and outdoor seating.

The large, comfortable sitting room has two sofas, open fireplace, smart TV , books, a selection of traditional board games and DVDs.

Additional smaller sitting room has a sofa, TV, wood burning stove, and desk.

Contemporary downstairs bathroom with powerful shower, wash hand basin and loo.

Separate utility room for coats and muddy boots, with washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board. Includes beach towels, picnic rug, crockery and cutlery; tea towels and washing up liquid.

Wonderful walking on the farm and in many areas close by, both coast and countryside - along the river Stour at Blandford for example. Mountain biking on the farm and at other locations nearby.

CATS: Please note, the cottage is also home to two friendly cats, Autumn and Winter. We can arrange for them to be fed, or very happy if you'd care to look after them.

Nice Break from city.
Relaxing property in the middle of fields and tree lined walks. We were able to use the property as a base for near by family to visit with us. Plenty of room for a meal either inside or out. New appliances and very helpful hosts. Would visit again in a heart beat,

About the host

Hosted by Helen & Westrow Cooper

Host profile image
We enjoy living in the countryside and helping our guests get the best from their visit. This cottage, which we now offer at certain times of the year only, is where we live. This is why the cats are included. Otherwise, during your stay, you have sole occupancy (we and the dog go elsewhere :-)).

“Westrow is a very thoughtful host who met us upon our arrival and provided a welcoming environment. His place is very well prepared with everything we needed to have a comfortable and relaxing stay. I would highly recommend his place for those looking for a quiet and comfortable accomodation.”

Why they chose this property

The cottage is full of character with the original timber flooring and panelling, and stripped pine doors, in the heart of the house. It is cosy, comfortable and well-equipped, with a large private garden for play or relaxation. The cottage is out of the way in the countryside, but just a short drive from town with independent shops as well as supermarkets.

"Lovely light, bright cottage with great garden views over the countryside. Lovely homely touches such as fresh bread and a homemade lemon drizzle cake. High quality room decor modernised where needed but keeping the traditional feel. Great cleanliness. Good communication with the owners. Had everything one night ever need - possibly the best stocked holiday cottage I’ve ever stayed in. The owners popped by to check all was ok and live on the estate the cottage is on.”

“A lovely place to stay. Comfortable beds, nicely decorated, very clean and attractive home. The owner, Westrow, was very kind, friendly and helpful and had great tips for where to go in the area. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back if we were in the area again.” Kiri, Sept 2019

“A lovely, tastefully furnished and thoughtfully and generously equipped cottage providing an excellent base for the Dorset countryside and coastline.Plenty of space in both the house and huge garden. We had a super week and would definitely return if Dorset takes our fancy again.” Helen, Aug 2019
