About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Lakefront Log Cabin with Character and tastefully decorated

If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further!

First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motor boats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940's as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area. A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full size washer/dryer for your convenience. No air conditioning.

Also, lakeside, is a quite place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a row boat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do. There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive in Movie! Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing.

We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

Rates: Please see current rates under the rates tab. Summer is a 7 day rental with turnover on Saturday. We have a 3 night minimum the rest of the year. Also, we limit our cabin to 6 guests. We cannot accept pets due to an allergy issue.

Posted rates do not include the $150.00 cleaning fee nor does it include the fees charged to you by VRBO. Their is a $500.00 security deposit that will be charged at booking that will be refunded to you promptly upon inspection after you leave. Also, we have a strict refund policy, please review it.

Upon your request to book, we like to visit by telephone with a prospective guest prior to booking so that we can all get to know each other a bit better and feel comfortable with our relationship.

We love our cabin and think you will too. We are very proactive owners and are always available to answer any questions or satisfy your needs. Just call or email if you have any questions.

About Fred Asmussen

We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fred Asmussen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Fred Asmussen chose Lake Luzerne

When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940's as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800 acre site with 2 lakes. A lot a history in the area.A true hand cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a handlaid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes this house special?

Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?

Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?

Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?

Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?

Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?

Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?

You decide...

Guestbook comments from the owner

The description of 14 Vista didn't disappoint in the least. As a matter of fact, we don't think any description or pictures can do it justice. Each and every detail (of so many) was a new discovery. We would joke about how we would find something new and unique in the cabin that we didn't notice the day before. What's more, the home is kept immaculate and fresh. Our dinner guests were also amazed at the furnishings and fixtures. Literally antiques. You are clearly trusting people. We thank you for trusting this little slice of heaven to us for our stay. The ski conditions weren't the best, but we knew coming "home" to the cabin would make up for it. Hopefully in the future we will have the opportunity to visit again.

Left my heart there!

  • 5 of 5

I have had a life long dream to stay in a snow covered log cabin in the woods on a lake. Two weeks ago, my dream came true. Everything about the cabin was exactly how I would have pictured it to be. The tranquility, scenery and atmosphere made our long weekend perfect. When we arrived, there was a light snow fall which just added to the beauty of the cabin and the lake. Every morning we woke up to snow falling. We even went out on the deck with our coffee to enjoy the scenery. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet get away from it all place to go...this is it. I absolutely fell in love with this cabin. I left my heart there!! I have already started to plan the next stay there.

Fantastic lakeside cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is great place for adults and the kids. There is a little beachy area right down from the cabin with easy access or a larger bathing area a couple minute walk to the other side of the lake. The lake is very small (no mortor boats), but great for canoeing and row boats.

The cabin is clean, nicely laid out, and very comfortable. The proprietor, Fred, is accessible via phone or internet, and very friendly and helpful.

I would definitely return.

We could not have had a more beautiful impression of the property. It was absolutely gorgeous.

We would highly recommend this property for an awesome vacation. We had a small intimate wedding on the dock and it was perfect. My family in new York were very impressed. The cabin inside is decorated beyond belief. It has everything you could imagine. Fred and Pam were truly amazing in keeping in touch with us during this whole process. I was able to have such an amazing wedding on such a beautiful property. Can't wait to book again next year!!! Oh and using the canoe and boat to go around the lake was the highlight for our 2 kids age 19. Thank you Fred and Pam for an awesome experience. Kim and Scott Lowry and kids Jared and alysa

Beautiful property in the perfect serene setting!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect getaway and exactly what my wife and I needed to recharge. Fred was extremely accommodating and the champagne welcome was the cherry on top! We will most certainly return, perhaps during the summer so that we may enjoy the sunset from the amazing porch that overlooks the lake. This property undoubtedly has different advantages offered during every season and we can't wait to experience them all!

Fred was a pleasure to deal with in renting his home to us for the weekend. The House was spotless, in a perfect quiet location. Close to downtown lake George for restaurants and shops. Look forward to renting again in the near future.
