About the property

Beautiful Inside, Close To Coastal Trail, Shopping Mall And 2 Miles To Downtown

The house is all new inside and absolutely gorgeous. When I say everything is new, that includes the walls, triple pane windows, doors, toilets, cabinets, trim, flooring and the

furniture. This also includes all the linens, dishes, and everything. The house is in a great neighborhood and is very quiet. The house has huge windows and you will feel close to nature when you see the 30' pine tree out front or see the cute squirrel running across the fence line in the back. Pick some fresh apples from the trees in late August once they are ripe. Bake a fresh pie or apple crumble. Raspberry bushes also along the back fence.

The house is a bi-level house with 9 stairs going to the front door. This house has 2 full size living rooms and 2 full size kitchens. Having 2 refrigerators is definitely handy with a big group. The second kitchen will help if one family has picky eaters. Dinner can be prepared at the same time. The downstairs is finished. It has 2 more bedrooms and another full bathroom. There are 15 steps going downstairs. The living area is bigger than the upstairs kitchen/living room area. It has a big 55" TV, three full size couches. The dining room table seats 6 and the breakfast bar holds 3. In the corner there is a queen bed to eliminate the use of the blowup mattress. But if it is needed there is still plenty of room if we move a couch.

The coastal trail is close by for a morning jog or afternoon walk. Shopping is only .25 miles away and downtown is only 2 miles away. It is a straight shot on the Seward Hwy which is right there. Moose's Tooth pizza is Anchorage's best pizza and is only 1 mile away. Amazing pizza and home brewed beer.

Downtown has many things to offer. Shopping, sightseeing, bike rentals, coastal trail and even fishing. Many restaurants and bars to eat delicious food. Renting bikes from downtown is great way to check out the coastal trail. You will sometimes see moose as well.

The end of May and into June is a great time to hit ship creek, right down town and reel up a king salmon. Throw on some chest waders or boots and grab a fishing pole. Don't forget to get a fishing license and be very careful of the tide. The mud and the tide can be dangerous so talk to the locals before venturing out into the stream.

Chilkoot Charlie's is the infamous bar for Anchorage. It is about 1.5 from the house and it usually has a band on one side and a dj on the other. One bar is called the birdhouse which has a slanted bar with many stories regarding the original Birdhouse and full of pranks.

Total of 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Upstairs, room 1 has a queen bed and a twin bed, room 2 has a king bed, and room 3 has a king bed. 2 bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs, room 4 has a king bed and room 5 has 2 queen beds. 1 queen bed in open area downstairs and a queen size blowup mattresses if needed. 1 bathroom downstairs.

I have also purchased several coupon books that offers many discounts on many tourist attractions and over 300 restaurants. Most of them are buy one get one free. So if you decide to take a trip on the Alaska Railroad to Seward and back and a ticket is $170 they will give you one ticket free. The major coupons I will give out one, for every three nights books. The book will be left at the house for your use for any of the restaurant ones or other activities. It could definitely save you a couple hundreds of dollars.

About Jan Durrington

I was in the hotel industry for about 10 years and my dream was to own a B&B when I was younger. I always loved helping the guests plan day trips and when they came back glowing and with awesome pictures, a great adventure, or of wildlife and the natural beauty of Alaska always made me smile.

Jan Durrington purchased this house in 2014

Why Jan Durrington chose Rogers Park

This property was ready for some TLC. We spent a couple of years and blood, sweat and tears to make this house beautiful. This was an experience of a life time to remodel and make things so nice for our guests.

What makes this house unique

Great location and very easy to get to where ever you need to go. It is a quiet neighborhood and a couple blocks from Anchorage's coastal trail. This trail is great for walking, jogging, rollerblading, skate skiing, and biking. Be sure to pack some bug spray because the mosquitoes can get bad in some areas.

Will be a nice place when the renovation is completed

  • 3 of 5

We were a party of 7 adults and rented this home for 9 days as our base home for touring Alaska. This home has some really great features. It is very clean, spacious and the renovations that have been done are really nice. We had plumbing problems that took a couple of days to get fixed. But once they found the problem and fixed it, there were no more problems. They are having a new roof put on and when we got back from Denali my clothes were soaked. We finally figured out it was the roof leaking. I know Jan felt so bad about our problems. She gave us a small refund and brought a fresh bouquet and pies to say "sorry." This is a great house for large families. Just make sure renovations are complete.

Owner's Response: These guests were great and I felt horrible for the misfortunes. Unfortunately we noticed a leak on our flat roof before the guests came and decides to change it to a roof with trusses. While we waited for the trusses to be made, a few staples came undone from the plastic covering the roof and with the rain it had formed a leak. The roof is brand new now, so this will not happen again. I went to check the plumbing and I couldn't replicate the problem. I flushed the toilet and ran the shower but could not locate any leak. When both shower curtains were drenched and outside the tub I thought that caused the water on the floor. We have brand new plumbing. When more water was on the floor the next day I realized the pipe was clogged. In the future, I plan on flushing the pipes with drano to prevent them from clogging. But I now recognize a clogged pipe.

This was our first trip to anchorage, we could not have have asked for a better home this house totally maximized our anchorage experience. This was a 6bedroom 1 was still being renovated home has been beautifully remodeled. 2 living rooms, 3 bathrooms, great stocked kitchen with large table. Back yard is perfect lots of privacy and big enough for the kids to run around and pick apples and berries that were growing. All rooms had queens or king beds showers were stock with soaps/shampoos towels. Jan was kind enough to purchase a UFC fight for us on a late notice. Owners were very accommodating and respectful! I 100% recommend this big beautiful home to anyone visiting Anchorage! Thank you so much for extending your home to us!
