About this property

Amazing Views Of The Columbia Valley

This home is built looking over the Columbia Valley just down the road from Golden, BC. You get amazing views all times of the day. You're just a stone throw away from the Columbia River which offers great fishing, amazing canoeing and swimming. The cottage is surrounded by nearby mountain bike, sled and cross country skiing trails. 5 minutes from Golden and 20 minutes to Kicking Horse resort from there.

There's a zip line at the back of the lot that is great for kids.

Master-1 King Bed, 2nd Bedroom- Bunk Bed Double on bottom and single on-top), pull out single mattress. 3rd Bedroom- Bunk bed, double in bottom and single up top, Single loft bed with option to move mattress underneath. Living room- 2 Pull-out queen sofas. Den- 1 single pull out sofa
Basement - pullout queen

5 minute walk is the eco-Adventure Ranch which offers services for weddings, private lake, and landings for para gliders. The cottage has a cabin feel with local timber trims with modern amenities. There are 2 covered decks, one facing the Columbia Valley and the other that faces the mountain side. Note that the driveway is quite steep and it is recommended that during the Winter a 4 wheel drive vehicle is used. However the driveway is regularly plowed.

Home features:Interior-Blonde Maple flooring, Grey porcelain tiles at entrances, local fir finishing with white wash stains, custom local fir railings and spindles.Exterior-Triple pane windows and doors, Hardy siding, secure multi-point locks, sound barrier insulation (exterior+interior)Kitchen-Bamboo counter-tops, dishwasher, 36"Fridge, cook top, wall mount stove+microwave, 1200 cfs hood fan, large island, touch faucet, Garb-orator.Bedrooms- Solid wood bed frames, large windows.Bathrooms- Spacious, rain shower heads, jetted tubs, porcelain and mosaic tiles, large vanity drawer, Misc- 2 decks, whole-home speaker system, fire pit, BBQ, large wood stove, WIFI Internet and TV with DVD multi-media player. Water softener with reverse osmosis system.

Rec Room and Family area - 9' Solid Mahogany Pool Table (Package worth 12k), 2 Foosball tables, and 55" Sony 4k Android TV. On the other side carpeted family area with Sectional that folds into a bed with a 65" Sony Android 4k TV and Sound system.

Co-ordination booking to accommodate weddings etc. from Eco-Adventure Ranch or can accommodate small weddings. Need to reach out prior to booking for any events.

Note that the driveway was recently re-excavated and dropped by 6'. Being a mountain cabin it's a rustic gravel driveway with a large gravel parking area. A new deck was built with a staircase. The staircase does not currently have railings yet. There's is a gravel ramp to the left but don't recommend for people with mobility issues.

The grass is generally not watered in the summer due to well water constraint. Golden like many towns has a labour shortage so not all this can be fixed right away if something were to occur.

Will not accept changes in guest numbers less than 30 days in advance.

A great stay with one snafu
Overall, we would recommend this place. Location is good, had what we needed to do some cooking and sleep - which is all we needed to do there. Used the hot tub and it was also nice after some long hiking days. Several of the beds do have shallow mattresses (3" or so) and so several people doubled those up before they were able to get comfy. The one snafu is the water from all that taps and showers smelled of sulfur (rotten eggs) for half of our stay. The property manager did work quickly to remedy the issue by filling the empty water softener, but the first few days we showered, washed pans, etc. in that water, which was probably safe just stinky. Property manager communicated well on the issue and the normal stuff. There is a "clean up" before you go list, but it isn't much compared to other places.

Very nice, well furnished home. Location and property is as was described, rustic. Initial communication problems with owner resolved. Warnings about bears were justified by seeing bears on the property twice in a six day stay. That made us very cautious about outdoor activities and prompted group participation.

I'm an IT Project Manager and a father to a 5 and 7 year old. My wife Karen is a teacher at a Spanish Bilingual School. I'm originally from Vancouver Island and Karen is originally from El Salvador, but we reside in Calgary now. I built this home as I have always loved the area and the natural beauties that surround. My son at age 2 (who speaks more Spanish then I do) gave the house the name Casa Rocas because of the large rocks entering the driveway. I have responded to everyone's suggestions small or large and am a very active host ei: Bigger hot tub, fans in bedrooms, instructions for appliance etc. are examples to my responses in efforts to accommodate reasonable suggestions.

Why they chose this property

If this is your first experience in the Rockies, Golden is a great area as it is in the heart of a lot of the scenic tourist areas. 1.5h from Banff, 45 min to Lake Louise, 45 min to Radium Hot Springs and 1 hour to Revelstoke. Then Golden itself is a small gem. You don't have to worry about tour bus's flooding the streets.

I have stayed in many cabins/homes in the area and I recommend all of them. They all just accommodate a little differently. Having a young family, I'm naturally going to have things setup to keep my and other families happy ie: Den is a carpeted small room with bins of toys and Children books in bedrooms. I love to cook so I designed the kitchen exactly how I wanted it. I love the heat of a wood burning stove so I had one of the largest/most efficient stoves I could find installed. I love listening to music in the kitchen etc. so I setup a whole home audio system so you can listen to music throughout the house.
