Overview

About the property

Spacious 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath Elegantly Furnished Creekside 1895 Farm House

This two story home has been updated with modern conveniences but affords the tranquil atmosphere of simpler times. When you enter the picket-fenced gardens through the gate house, you will immediately feel at home. A seasonal succession of vegetation surround the house, and wildlife wander in to taste the bounty. Downstairs you will find a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, electric stove, dishwasher, small appliances, etc. ), full sized bathroom with tub/shower combination, dining room, library, living room, bedroom with queen sized bed, entry, and laundry room. The three large bedrooms upstairs each have a sitting area and closets. Each bedroom is uniquely decorated and named after a member of the Pearce family who lived in the home from 1895 to 1996. The upstairs bathroom has two sinks and a beautifully tiled large shower. American made braided rugs and homemade window dressings were placed in every room to add to the historic atmosphere. A ductless heating/cooling system allow comfort control in each room. In the library, you will find a large assortment of games (cribbage, Mexican train dominoes, rummy, etc.) and jigsaw puzzles, books, cd/phonograph/radio (with old time radio cds), and TV. A gas BBQ is available on the front porch. The porch is tiled and furnished with chairs to comfortably sit and enjoy the breeze off Deer Creek on a hot summer day. Although there are many great things to do in Douglas County, this place is a great place to just hang out and relax.

About Ellen Williams

My husband Larry and I have been in the cattle business since 1972. We are active members of the Douglas County Farm Bureau and enjoy our relationships with our "fellow farm friends". We are members of the Chamber of Commerce and support projects and community activities within Douglas County. I am a former school teacher and have always enjoyed being creative in the classroom and life. This historic house has been a new outlet for creativity.

Ellen Williams purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Ellen Williams chose Southern Oregon

We purchased this farm house and 80 acres in January 2013, because it was continuous with the 730 acres of ranch property that we already owned. We did not want a housing development next door to our ranching operation. We sold a ranch in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004 and moved our cattle operation to Roseburg. Our home is a half mile south of the Pearce home. The Pearce home was terribly neglected, and the restoration project has taken two years. It has been a creative endeavor and a labor of love.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This home is uniquely situated just outside the Roseburg city limits on the north side of grazing lands and forested areas. A two mile drive west from the farm house on Douglas Avenue brings you to the historic downtown of Roseburg. Brix 527, Salud, and Dino's Ristorante are all great places to eat downtown. Day trips east to the beautiful waterfalls of the Umpqua River or west to the coast are easily made with the Pearce House as your home base. Winery tours or fishing expeditions are things that even/especially the locals enjoy. Graffiti weekend (old car event) and the County Fair attract many visitors to Roseburg. Umpqua Community College and Umpqua Actors Community Theatre provide excellent theatre experience throughout the year.

This home is centrally located for day trips west to the Oregon coast or east to the many waterfalls and fishing sites on the Umpqua River. Hikers, cyclers, white-water rafters, and kayakers are drawn to these scenic areas of Douglas County. Diamond Lake and Crater Lake are popular destinations for day trips. There are many wineries in the Umpqua Valley. Wildlife Safari is a short trip south of Roseburg in Winston. We find it exciting to live in an area where so many outdoor activities can be reached without being mired in heavy traffic to get there.

Girls wekend

  • 5 of 5

We had our annual girls weekend at this beautiful home. It was so comfortable and relaxing! We all had an amazing time, we loved the games, sitting on the porch and listening to the old records.

It was wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

The home was centrally located and very comfortable. We loved reading about the history of the home and seeing the pictures. We enjoyed coffee in the garden each morning. We also visited a couple of vineyards, which were quite good. At dinner one night we picked up a brochure of the local waterfalls. The one we visited had jumping salmon, which we had not experienced before.

Very charming & lots of space!

  • 5 of 5

The house and property are beautiful with grape vines and a garden outside, a nice porch to sit and grill out on, and a kitchen that's stocked and all the drawers are labeled. There's 4 bedrooms with queen size beds so plenty of room, however it should be noted there's only one bedroom on the ground floor. This might not be the place for someone with a disability/injury of any kind because the 3 upstairs bedrooms require you to walk up a steep curved staircase.

Beautiful old farmhouse rejuvenated

  • 5 of 5

This old house has been beautifully remodeled inside and out. The 5 HVAC units worked perfectly to keep the house either warm or colder on hot afternoons. The kitchen is very well stocked with almost every item you would need to prepare a wonderful meal and there is plenty of tableware and silverware so that you don't need to run the dishwasher every day. And the many variety of knives in the butcher block were sharp. The paint looks practically brand new and the bathrooms have toilets that are convenient for handicapped. The friezes in the bedrooms were quite in keeping with the rooms' name. e.g. The young man's room had lab dogs and puppies on the frieze as well as a stuffed toy dog and picture of the boy who originally lived in the house.). The owner was very congenial and lives nearby so that if we needed anything she would be available. We loved meeting her and enjoyed our stay very much.
