Overview

Photos and Description of this Betz-le-Château holiday farmhouse

Farmhouse 5+ bdrm 3 bath and/or Converted Stable 3 bdrm 2 bath sleeps 6 to 16

Dating back to about 1700, La Folie is a 'Coeur de ferme' situated in tranquil Touraine countryside in the Loire Valley. It is close to the villages of Betz-le- Chateau and Ferrière Larçon and twenty minutes drive from the historic town of Loches (where the recently discovered Caravaggio paintings are on display). It is within easy reach of many of the Loire Chateaux and is a perfect, peaceful hideaway - your ideal spot for a relaxing holiday in France.

There are two cottages, Hirondelles, the original farm house with 5+ bedrooms and Tourterelles, part of the original stables, with 3 bedrooms. The two cottages share the use of an 11 metre salt-water pool with patio (open June - September, weather permitting), play area with swings and trampoline, table tennis/boule court on 2 acres of private gardens. it is within biking/walking distance to a small village with baker, bar/restaurant and small epicerie (bicycles provided). More photos and other information can be found on owners web site at www.loire-valley-cottages.com

Commitment to Excellence: La Folie has built a reputation of providing clean, well kept facilities and friendly personal attention. We realize that you have many options for those important holiday getaways and strive to ensure that each of our guests leave happy. We are proud of the fact that many guests decide to return.

Guests enjoy the many amenities provided at La Folie. Each house is furnished with everything our guests need to make themselves at home. We provide lots of local tourist information and maps and free WiFi. All linen, towels (including pool towels) firewood for fireplace/wood stove, heating and electricity are provided.

In close proximity are all the famous Loire Valley chateaux and tourist attractions. There is a 2 star Michelin restaurant, La Promenade, in nearby Petit Pressigny. The Touraine countryside offers rolling farmland with rivers and picturesque villages dotted with chateaux and, of course, world famous goat cheeses.

The area has a rich history with many Roman ruins, dolmens and menhirs and museums featuring archeological artifacts.

From sunflower fields to village markets and festivals to local brocantes, there are activities nearby for everyone... or simply relax by the pool, read a book in the garden shade or enjoy a glass of wine and dinner alfresco in the quiet evening.

About Barbara Coyne

We are an Anglo/Canadian family who fell in love with and purchased La Folie when we were looking for a weekend/holiday getaway from our apartment life in Paris. It has always been (and continues to be) a peaceful and relaxing home and property which reflects the very happy times we spend there.

Barbara Coyne purchased this farmhouse in 2003

Why Barbara Coyne chose Indre-et-Loire

We think our home has lots of character, reflecting the life it has seen over centuries, but we have ensured that it also enjoys all the modern conveniences we are accustomed to, and which make holidaying more relaxing. We love the nature it is set in, it's peacefulness (although handy to decent town centres), privacy, and the way it's a 'hidden paradise' with truly restorative properties!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for letting us all stay at la Folie. It was one of the best holidays ever.

We have done so many things; canoeing on the river, had a few barbecues, visited 2 castles, enjoyed the local villages, spent our money at markets and have all been in the pool at least once everyday.

The weather was so lovely here that we have always eaten outside. The boys have especially enjoyed playing table tennis, and table football while the girls have enjoyed the pool and sunbathing We all liked the lizards. We hope to come back soon. - Gemma

This is a brilliant place to spend a holiday!

I loved everything about it.

The swimming pool and spending money at markets and everything in between. - Maisie

La Jolie Folie

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful holiday in the beautiful surroundings of La Folie. Thank you very much to Karen for booking our kayaking excursion for us. The pool, trampoline, bikes and grounds provided hours of entertainment for the children. The facilities were excellent with everything we needed. Karen helped us with an queries we had. La Folie makes a wonderful family holiday destination. It is a great place to switch off, forget about work and enjoy a fun time together as a family.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write about your experience. We certainly enjoyed welcoming you and your family back for the second year in a row. Since you had such a good time kayaking, we will definitely recommend the spot at Descartes to other guests, so thanks for sharing! We do hope to see you back at La Folie one day. Regards and Merci bien! The Team at La Folie

Amazing, out of this world

  • 5 of 5

Our family holiday at La Folie has been the best ever. The photos, lovely though they are, don't do the place justice. Having spent the week prior to this in a gite with fleas, we thought we had died and gone to heaven upon arrival at La Folie. Spotlessly clean, a real home from home with everything we could possibly need for our family of 6, our children ranging in age from 6 months to 10 years. The heated pool was a delight to swim in; my husband and 10 year old rode the bikes provided (which had all been serviced just 2 weeks before); a welcome pack of butter, cheese, bread, fruit, wine, milk, tea, coffee meant we didn't have an immediate rush out to the supermarket. So many little touches which made it perfection. Thank you Karen and Denise for providing such an amazing service - nothing seemed like too much trouble. A week to treasure.

Winter at La Folie

  • 5 of 5

Getting away from it all is the phrase that truly describes La Folie in winter. The house is just beautiful full of character and spotlessly clean.Everything you could need is provided. This is definitely an oasis-the sort of place you would want to keep secret but that would be too selfish!so we would definitely recommend both for a quiet winter holiday and for summer having stayed 2 years in a row - the pool is a big hit with the family as are the cycles, table tennis, trampoline - all used continously during the hot weather. The chateaux and beautiful countryside are well worth visiting there is plenty of info in the house

marvellous, gentle house and warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

The property was very clean and provided everything we needed and even more. The welcome of the owner was delightfull.

Not only for young children but also for the adolescent there was al lot to do. Byking, swimming, and chilling. We, as parents from the 2 families, had a very relaxed and joyfull time.

Enough action within small distance, markets, beautifull villages, castles, cities. Perfect for a nice holliday.

Fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

This is the ideal setting for a quiet but fun filled holiday. The property is a fantastic base with lots for the children to do or you are within an hour of most of the top visitor attractions in the area. The pool is great and the children spent most of there time there.

The property itself was very clean and provided everything we could need, the owner has been very helpful.

We especially enjoyed the local markets in Descartes and Loches.

It is an easy 2km bike ride to Betz where one can find a local bar, bakery and small epicerie. A short 9 km drive into Ligueil provides access to several restaurants and more diverse shopping. From La Folie you will have an easy drive to the historic city of Loches and then on to Tours and to all the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley. There are many Gallo Roman remains in the area as well as other attractions including Futuroscope and the ancient city of Poitiers.
