If your aim is to find absolute peace/calm (even isolation), you may be well advised not to stay at the Domaine de Montagnac during July or August. Understandably, in the peak holiday season we are likely to have people staying in one of the other houses/apartments. For most people, meeting new people/friends in a relaxing informal setting (and children meeting and playing with other children) adds to the fun and enjoyment of a family holiday in such a wonderful place!
The Domaine de Montagnac is an ideal location for relaxed and focused residential business seminars. All of the spaces described can be made available, plus a separate dedicated seminar room. Full catering can be arranged from a local caterer. Please email us for more details.
Hallo! I'm Martin Holliss, one of the owners of the Domaine de Montagnac. Having fallen in love with the place, my wife, Liz, and I bought the Domaine in 2005 with some of our oldest and dearest friends. Our children have come to love it as well, to the point that our son was married at the domaine during 2016.
Martin Holliss purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
It's just so lovely here! Rural, tranquil and with amazing views. If you want to holiday in a city then the Domaine de Montagnac is not for you. However, if you love the country, enjoy large characterful houses with wooden beams, and want to relax into a combination of tourism, walking and French rural life, then Montagnac is likely to appeal.
'Just to let you know that we had a great week at Montagnac. Really like what you've done with the house; the standard of decoration, fittings & utensils are far superior to what you normally expect at rented accommodation. STEVE.' ......... 'Good morning Mister Martin, Your house, in France, is very fine and our flat was very nice and comfortable. Our holiday was very beautiful. Many thanks to you, your wife and Christina for your kindness. Our dream is to come back one day in St. Felix de Tournegat! PAOLO, DANIELA e MATTEO.' ......... 'We greatly enjoyed our stay at Montagnac - wonderful house, good views. Christina was very helpful. The area is great for walking and kayaking, we managed trips down the Hers river and Tom and Sam did the slalom course outside Foix. Finally, wonderful for me was the puppet festival at Mirepoix (as a sometime puppet maker and storyteller myself). A lovely unspoilt region - we hope to come back. Many thanks. SARAH, TOM AND FAMILY, AND FRIENDS.
The Domaine de Montagnac is a remarkable place. Situated in a quiet and beautiful (but not remote) part of the Ariege in southwest France, with rolling hills all around, it is an ideal base for a relaxing rural holiday. As well as the local village (St Felix de Tournegat) being classified as a National Monument, there are amazing panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountain range – close enough for skiing or high altitude walks. With tourism and cultural attractions all over the region, and civilization (and, so, shops!) just a 15 minute drive away, there are very few holiday locations that can compare. Delights such as Mirepoix and Limoux are on the doorstep, as are the Cathar castles including Foix and Montsegur. For those wanting the sea, the Mediterranean and the famous town of Collioure are just 2 hours away.
Ski: There are several ski resorts within easy driving distance. While not as grand (or expensive!) as the Alps, all local ski resorts in the Pyrenees have a good variety of skiing in lovely surroundings.
The nearest ski resort, les Monts D'Olmes, is a 45 minute drive away. The larger resort of Ax-les-Thermes (also has thermal baths & a casino, is 90 minutes drive away.
