House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 12 Sleeps
This house has been in our family since 1999 when Jane's parent's purchased it to use as a rental property. Although from the Hudson Valley of New York the family has vacationed on the Delmarva Peninsula for years. Because of our longstanding interest in the area Jane's in-laws started renting properties here too, and now a contingent of over twenty cousins, siblings and other family and friends convene once a year. One sister-in-law has had Pasta Night followed by board games and cards games at her nearby rental for over 25 years. And trivia night, Mexican night and more continue to be family traditions for us all. The house is our center of fun and we welcome and encourage others to use it similarly to strengthen the bonds of family. My two rules for this house are that I must go to the beach every day, and I must play the piano every day.

Why Owner chose South Bethany Harbor
This house is so comfortable to be in with its breezy atmosphere and multiple porches. There is a nook for everyone to enjoy. It is a great house for families and for kids.
What makes this House unique
The canal is tough to beat with the opportunities for crabbing, fishing and launching of a small craft. It is a pleasure to simply sit out there and read a book. The screen-in porch gets the most attention it seems since it overlooks the canal and draws folks for breakfast, lunch, dinner, reading, games, crafts, you name it. It is a lovely spot to sit. That porch swing downstairs is pretty terrific also. And besides the pleasure of the bay and the quiet community we can just as easily walk to the ocean and enjoy the thrill of the beach and the water. We get the best of both worlds at this house.

Great family time
Three generations of my wife’s family were there. Great time was had by all. The house was very clean and had everything we needed for a beach vacation
Thank you for your comments here. Yes, this house is so accomodating for multiple families and many generations. So glad you all enjoyed yourselves and we welcome you back again.
A beautiful retreat, right near the beach!
Our family of 11 had the pleasure of staying at the Canal House last week. The house is very large and is the perfect setup for larger family groups. As other reviewers have mentioned, yes, some of the decor and furnishings are dated, but the pictures do not really do it justice. The home looks better in person! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The neighborhood is extremely quiet and having the shaded patio and porch after days in the sun was very welcome. The canal out back is a great plus and we caught crabs off and on all week. The house is well equipped. Things are spread about the house but if we looked a little, we found everything we could possibly need. Plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, etc for use in the garage was very handy. We mostly drove the short drive to the beach but walked a few times. The nearby beach access is convenient and was rarely crowded. Great shower out front, VERY handy! All in all, this is a very nice property which feels very “homey” very soon after you get there. We would definitely return to Canal House!
Perfect! So glad the shower was a hit. We have to agree about the shady lot - such a great break after the beach, to come back to a cool leafy backyard. Come again!
Great family vacation house
Great non-fussy cabin style vacation home with lots of space to spread out, several relaxing outdoor seating areas, canal front, quiet neighborhood, well stocked kitchen with lots of beach gear provided. Very convenient outdoor shower. Nice bike riding area. Close to Dollar General and open air produce market. About 15 minute walk to family friendly south Bethany beach, quick bike ride. Beach parking pass provided. Very responsive property manager and owner. Can kayak from the house to see the sunset over the bay! Nice place for extended family getaway.
South Bethany Aug. 2019
We often stay at this property and enjoy the location on the canal and quiet tucked away neighborhood. We'll be back.
Thank you for your note! We think the local gives us great access to both the beach and the bay and really offers a quiet escape from everything.
Plenty of room. Home can use some updating; could have been cleaner as well. Nice location. Enjoyed the dock. Family had a nice time.
July family vacation
The screened porch was our favorite. We had a couple game nights there. Unfortunately, our vacation was during a heatwave so we didn’t get to spend as much time on the deck/canal. Fortunately, the house remained cool on days over 100. There’s lots of games, privacy, room to spread out, Jane the owner & Phyllis, the property manager were easy to work with.
Thanks for staying with us and taking advantage of all there is to do in the house even on hot days. Hopefully the evenings cooled off for you so you could sit on those great porches. Please visit us again.
