Overview

About the property

Three bedroom, 1.5 Bathroom, Sleeps 6 in BR's (8 Total w/Trundels Beds)

Private elevated-bluff location with Sandy Point Beachfront and wide-span views of The Point and Penobscot River. All modern conveniences. Great central location to travel to and from Rockland via Belfast over the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and up to Bar Harbor or Bangor as all are within an hour's drive. Staired access to the beach. Views run nearly 180°. Sunrises are beautiful.

The home has one-floor living capability with the kitchen, master bedroom, full bath and laundry on the first floor. We have high speed internet, modern appliances, and newly-added deck with small grill. A small landing part way down the stairs to the beach allows for great conversation as the tide rolls in and out. The views from the living room and dining area change daily with the weather. Nearby trails along Hersey Retreat Road lead you to back routes to undeveloped parts of the water frontage in the area known locally as "The Amazon". People have also been known to flatten a few coins along the tracks along Steamboat Wharf Road.

Whether you want to walk the roads or the beach or drive to the various destinations along the Mid-Coast and up into Acadia, you will likely find the convenience and simple beauty of The Point a place to come back to for generations just as we have.

About Brent Martin

I am the grandson of, I believe, the fourth owner, who purchased the cottage in the early 1970's. The cottage was first built prior to 1919, based on a carving in old stone and concrete stairs that were removed about 25 years ago. I've assisted in maintaining the cottage with my grandmother and father over the past 12-15 years. My family has always shared the cottage with friends and family and have decided to try renting to others as well. I am originally from Maine with family history ranging from Danforth to Eliot and I've travelled the state as an appraiser. I am currently the Assessor for the City of Belfast.

Why Brent Martin chose MidCoast and Penobscot Bay

We've kept the cottage in the family over the decades as this area is essentially hidden and special to us. Selling it could not provide us with a similar location anywhere else. In 2014, my father ran into someone who he'd known from a small northern Maine town in the early 1950's. The man lived in Bucksport for 30 years and had no idea about these cottages located along Sandy Point, despite living 10 miles away. This type of privacy has confirmed us as having our own little best-kept-secret.

The cottage is unique in that it offers privacy, though not seclusion and since its location is not too far into Sandy Point, the views are of "The Point" and not just the river (Penobscot River). The elevated location keeps the area slightly breezy and not damp as you'd find with some direct water-level locations.

What makes this house unique

The area is sufficiently convenient and linked to tourist destinations without the traffic, expense, or feeling that you're committed to one destination over the other (for instance, If you're in Rockland, traveling to Bar Harbor may result in you staying overnight in Bar Harbor). It is easy to travel to Rockland one day, Camden the next, Belfast thereafter, Searsport and the flea markets after that and up into Bar Harbor to close out the week. We also have a lot of memories from simply walking the beach or nearby trails to "The Amazon" as well as along the road up to the distant old railroad crossing. The home-style feel will hit you when you walk in the door.

Quiet, cozy and relaxing place with a beautiful view and location

  • 5 of 5

We all had a great time... from going down to the beach in the early morning to the late evening, playing outside... grilling and eating lobster on the porch ... everything about this place was just perfect for our stay.

Wonderful House for a vacation or getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house feels very comfortable and welcoming. Great location next to the ocean with amazing views.

We had a great stay for 4 nights and enjoyed every single day. It is easy to drive around Maine and explore things in the surrounding area.

The property owner and neighbors are extremely friendly and helpful. Directions and instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Overall a place which I can highly recommend to anyone who wants to explore and enjoy Maine.

Wonderful cottage and fantastic view

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been to Maine for many years, and we love the Penobscot area, so when we found a cottage on the ocean in Stockton Springs we knew we'd found the best location for us. Situated nicely between Belfast and Bucksport, we were able to travel to all our favorite spots like Searsport, Castine, Ellsworth, etc. With two little kids (6 and 4) we needed to be able to get somewhere relatively easily, but also have fun at the house! We walked the beach, gathered shells (and the errant crab) and enjoyed the deck and trails close by. The owners were very responsive and they've designed a cottage with all that a family could need (wifi, Netflix, washer/dryer, etc). We plan to come back and could not recommend this house enough!

Fabulous Experience, Amazing Owners and Beautiful Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were on a mini vacation to Maine.

Looking for a romantic, easy and accessible location to enjoy the last of the Fall Foliage.

We could not have found a more perfect place.

The cottage is a farm home that has been restored. Plenty of room and would be kid friendly. The trees in front and the view of the Penobscot was literally a slice of heaven each morning. The home had everything we imagined, was clean with even complimentary Kurig coffee!

Overall the Maine people are genuine and we highly recommend renting from Brent and Mary. You will not be sorry and like us, will be hunting for your own piece of this paradise!

Summer Escape

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent place to escape to Maine for a summer visit. The location was ideal to access Acadia National Park, river rafting on the Penobscot, and sightseeing the local New England towns. The cottage was comfortable for our family of five, with a peaceful and serene view overlooking the Penobscot river. Will keep it on our list of places to revisit. Thanks for making this an effortless accommodation.
