About Keri Freeburg

We are longtime Kodiak residents and love living on this beautiful Island. A fisherman and fisherman's wife for over 30 years and it has always been our dream open a Bed and Breakfast here. Our children have grown up here and this is our home. We welcome you to Kodiak our Emerald Isle!

Keri Freeburg purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Keri Freeburg chose Alaska

Keeping in mind the plans to open a Bed & Breakfast we chose our home for its excellent location, lot size and the split level floor plan. Built in 2004 this is considered a newer home in Kodiak. Located on beautiful Spruce Cape and just outside the city limits, we are a 5 minute drive to Kodiaks town center. Our property is surrounded by tall Sitka Spruce on 2 sides and has a lovely view of the pond that is home to Mallard ducks and other water fowl. Bald Eagles are regular visitor stopping in for an occasional drink from the fresh water pond.

What makes this apartment unique

We love, love, love the natural beauty of the surrounding area, the sound and smell of the crashing ocean waves and the hum of the whistle buoy.

Very nice property, very friendly proprietor

  • 4 of 5

Conveniently located in a good neighborhood. Well-appointed room with the most incredibly comfortable bed ever. We loved the mattress! Delicious homemade blueberry muffins provided.

Only word of warning is for people who, like me, are sensitive to scents. I could never figure out the source, despite the proprietor's willingness to work with me, but the room was heavily scented, and I was miserably allergic to it. Could have been the detergent on the sheets and towels, many moons of febreeze use by other guests in the bathroom? I don't know, but beware if you have this particular sensitivity.

If artificial scents are not an issue for you, you will be very happy with this place.

Owner's Response: A note to future guest. Our room is not scented and this guest is the first complaint we have received in our 3 years of operation. We sincerely regret our guest allergic reaction and her discomfort while staying with us. We do all we can to accommodate and ensure the comfort of our patrons. Thank You

Wonderful Oasis

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this great B&B to everyone! I haven't stopped raving about the warm, clean, thoughtful accommodations. The private entrance and beautiful surroundings where above and beyond great! The cozy charm of the elec. fireplace provided the comfy king size bed in the main room a wonderful nights sleep. The homemade blueberry muffins were a special added touch(yummy). I was in the area for work and will gladly book again whenever work takes me back to Kodiak.

Sept 2016: 3 Day Stay for 3

  • 5 of 5

The property is fairly new and immaculate. It's in a very quiet area.

It was ideal for our party of 3, with the main room having a king size bed for my wife and me and a separate private room for the third person. We liked the private entrance. I couldn't find any other B&B on the island where 3 people could stay for such a reasonable price.

You get blueberry muffins and a Keuric coffee maker with coffee and tea: not a full breakfast. If you come to a B&B to socialize with other travelers, as we sometimes do, this isn't the place. If you've got a busy schedule and need to be out before 7:00 am, as we did for fishing, this is perfect. There was a refrigerator in the room, which allowed us to have what we needed for breakfast early in the morning.

Having stayed at other B&Bs on Kodiak in the past, this will be our first choice on future trips.

Clean and Colorful!

  • 5 of 5

Our room was very comfortable. Cozy, plush bedding and towels, Pristine, large bathroom with wonderful shower and soaking tub with luscious products to add to the experience. We had a couple small glitches which were promptly and cheerfully taken care of. We would definitely stay there again.

Best Spot on our Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

Kodiak was the last stop for my husband and I on our honeymoon and it was made all the better because of Keri's amazing space. We walked into the most comfortable, cozy and relaxing bedroom complete with a HUGE walk in closet, a second bedroom with a day bed, and an adorable kitchenette, and a luxurious bathroom (with a full jacuzzi bath!) Not to mention, Keri had delivered blueberry muffins still HOT out of the oven and newly baked chocolate chip cookies. The outside is decorated with GORGEOUS flowers and there is a little deck off the room with two chairs where you can look off to the left and see a gorgeous lake covered in flowers. My husband and I took our books out there and read for hours. It was like heaven!

You can really tell Keri puts a lot of thought and love into making sure her customers have a fantastic and luxurious stay, all the way from the Keurig set up with options of coffees and teas to the extremely comfortable bed. We are so grateful we found Whistle Buoy Bed and Breakfast and cannot wait to return!! Thank you, Keri!!
