Conveniently located, yet private and quiet. The peaceful environment can be taken in from the screened in back porch with offers an unobstructed view of the bayou and allows you to take in the sounds of nature.
My wife, my three brothers and I just spent three nights at the Palms on the Teche. This place was perfect for us. It's small but it has all you need for a short vacation in Bayou country. The best feature of the house is the screened in porch out back. We spent every morning and every evening on the back porch talking about that day's activities and reminiscing about visiting our grandparents and our many Louisiana cousins each summer as we grew up. The fact that this small country-style house sits on the banks of the picturesque Bayou Teche made it perfect. My ancestors had land all along this bayou. The house is reminded me and my brothers of our grandparents' small house on their farm. The interior doors of the house appear to be the original farm-style doors which gave the house a rural feel. The appliances all worked well (until I put too much liquid soap in the dishwasher). The owner, Keith, was super friendly and checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed. The 90-year-old country store in Leonville, Champagne's, had all the food and supplies we needed. Additionally, the small town atmosphere of the store and all the citizens of Leonville made this visit fantastic. I ran about six miles each morning on highway 31 and noticed that nearly every motorist going by waved to me. They didn't blow their horns in anger as one expects in a big city. They displayed hospitality and a welcoming attitude. If you have family in the area, this house is ideal (especially if you have children). The kids won't be cramped in a small hotel room, they have a large yard to run around. However, you should take the warning signs about alligators and poisonous snakes seriously. The next-door neighbor told me he watched the neighbors on the opposite side of the bayou catch an alligator this past summer. All-in-all, this place and the friendly people of Leonville & Prairie Laurent exceeded our expectations. Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!
This house was perfect for our family of 6. we were visiting family for the week and need our own space and a cramped hotel room wouldn't cut it. SO glad we found this home. The screened porch was great for the little ones to be "outside" without sunscreen or bug spray. The kids had room to run and every one had their own bed! Kitchen is very well stocked and we had everything we needed. The house was very clean and homey. Television and Wi-Fi were great too. We will definitely be back on our next visit. When we left our 3 year old said "No, I want to go back to our little white house!"
Excellent home to relax and fish! Was looking in my calendar for the next trip back before we left.
This quaint little house has charm as well as everything one could need to have a quiet country vacation! The extra little touches of style and comfort made us feel comfortable and welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the entire place was clean as a whistle!
We only needed one of the beds, so we had plenty of room to spread out. Our local family came to the Palms for supper one night and there was plenty of room for everyone.
We know where we will stay next time we visit our LA family! The Palms is the place!
Visiting Opelousas was a regular for me and my family, because both of my parents were from that area. But being able to visit and have the freedom of being in "your own place," even if it was for a couple of days, was so relaxing and free willed. I spent Thanksgiving with my family at the Palms, and to watch the kids run around freely, rolling on the ground; playing games on the huge screened porch; or trying to break a dance move or two, was surely a memory that we will never forget. The house offered everything you would expect at your own home. It was very cozy and welcoming. I will definitely be visiting the Palms again in the future.
Just spent a great vacation at this wonderful cottage on the bayou. I was impressed with how clean and roomy the house was, after renting this house I plan on returning for future visits for a relaxing vacation getaway . We enjoyed the kitchen which is fully stocked with pots, pans, and some staples, and having a kitchen helped cut back on costs during our stay. the country side here is just beautiful and there are lots of fun things to do. This cottage with its home like atmosphere beats a hotel any day.
