The Huge Great Room is great for gatherings, yet intimate for quiet reflection around the brick fireplace. Lots of privacy as the house is setback 200 feet from the street. You're just steps to the sand beach and dock. There's great fishing and lots of lake to explore as we are connected to neighboring Chisago Lake.
Responsible Dog owners are welcome and will love the fenced back yard! Send us an email inquiry and we will send you our 26 page HomeBook with floor plans, photos and details about every single room and the surrounding area.
Caryn and Jim Casey have been married for 33 years (as of 2015). We have two grown daughters, a small dog and two grand-dogs. We love Lindstrom and being at the lake as a contrast to our busy lives in Burbank, CA. Jim has a background in architecture and sells real estate in California.
Jim Casey purchased this house in 1999
It was love at first sight. We found the house quite by accident. Jim was doing research comparing different real estate websites back in 1999 for a seminar he was giving to a real estate board in Florida. Jim was an internationally recognized technology speaker and trainer in the real estate industry just as the internet and digital technology was changing the real estate business. Our dream house scenario was an older home with wrap around porches on a lake and within 45 minutes of the Twin Cities. Fridhem popped up on his computer screen and the family jumped in the car and drove to the property more out of curiosity than anything else. When we walked up the front sidewalk we were captivated. Because of the original condition of the home and the unfinished attic we knew we could make this a special home for our family and for our retirement (you can live entirely on the first floor if necessary). That same year our two daughters announced their dreams of acting so we packed them up and took them to Burbank to attend school and audition for television and film. Jim spent over a year remodeling the home and commuting back and forth to California until the whole family returned for summer vacation. We never imagined we'd be turning the house into a vacation rental, but it has been a wonderful experience for us sharing the house and still getting to enjoy it throughout the year.
Walk to downtown on our tree lined street and enjoy privacy and incredible views of the lake from our large deck. The house is large and yet features lots of little, intimate spaces to congregate or enjoy some alone time. Live in a historic home with all the amenities you'd expect from a 5 star hotel including an exercise room, free WIFI and a smart TV for your Netflix and Amazon Prime viewing pleasure. With a local winery, many restaurants, antique shopping, nearby trails, tennis courts and golf, not to mention the wonderful lake and trophy fishing, everyone can find something to pass the time. Fridhem is a local treasure which everyone in the community has heard stories about in its over 100 year history. We purposely do NOT rent the house for large events like weddings because we feel it is best for family get togethers and quiet vacations. Our friendly neighbors are there when you need them, but will give you your privacy. We hope you will treat them with the same friendly respect!
We had a fantastic time staying in the Fridhem house! The space was perfect for a couples weekend, plenty of places to sleep and several large common areas for all of us to spend time together. Everyone loved the character of the house and we wish we would have had more time to spend there. We were grateful for your detailed instructions on the how-to's of the house; it made for an easy check-in and check-out. We loved that the house was just a short walk to downtown Lindstrom. We were able to pick up pastries for breakfast the next morning at the bakery (the crispies there really are delicious!). We also liked the location for the variety of things to do within a short drive. We visited a local winery which was only a 15 minute drive away. If we would have had more time we would have spent sometime in the many antique shops nearby. After having had such a wonderful weekend we have decided to make our couples weekend a yearly thing and hopefully we will make it back to the Fridhem House!
We had my Mother's 72nd birthday party celebration over the weekend and it was wonderful!! There was plenty of room for everyone and it is such a beautiful place. The family enjoyed visiting and grilling on the deck that overlooked the lake. The whole family had a blast, made great memories and my Father was excited to catch a big fish! We look forward to booking our another trip soon at the Fridhem! Thanks Jim!
We just had our family Christmas gathering at Fridhem and it was all fabulous! There was plenty of room in the house for the 9 of us and we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend! It is close to Taylor's Falls so our entire family (sons, daughter-in-laws, grandkids) went skiing and snowboarding! What a great place! Thank you Jim!
Our family very much enjoyed our week at Fridhem. It had the charm and interest of a historic home yet was modern and could be lived in easily. The many rooms are large and the furniture comfortable, and the air conditioning came in handy. We lacked for nothing. We loved having the boat dock so we could get out on the lake, and fishing was fun even from shore. The kids enjoyed playing in the shallow water. Lindstrom is close to many interesting places, from a state park to the twin cities to other small towns. A new restaurant just opened nearby and was excellent. Food at the cheese shop also looked good. But we also cooked in the well-stocked kitchen. Jim, the owner, was very responsive--and quick--to respond, from our first contact until we left. We're happy that we found Fridhem.
This beautiful house was the perfect backdrop for our very first successful family reunion. Once the party was underway, it was almost magical. There was so much love and happiness in these walls that it facilitated an amazing event. There was so much room that the kids were never cramped
Or bored. And the prime lake location was the cherry on top. We gathered around the isle in the kitchen while we cooked and laughed and told stories. We will cherish those memories forever. And we will definitely be back!
Our small extended family gathered at Fridhem again this year. It is our favorite place. Very well-equipped (even some fishing rods!) & exceptionally well-stocked; a large enough dining room table for 12; 2 ovens; 3-1/2 baths -- all add up to the kind of environment where a group of people can be comfortable, gathering all together, or in smaller groups around the place. This May we took advantage of the rain to play Pictionary (one of several games there) around the living room fireplace; 'puzzled' on the 'porch' (windows all around overlooking the lake); and played cards on the dining room table. There's a park a block away which our 4-year old enjoys; an antique store within a few blocks, with great deals on old jewelry; a cute coffee shop--also walkable. And, don't miss Lindstrom bakery's Swedish donuts!
My husband and I and our 2 sons and families (6 adults & 6 children, ages from 3 years to 17 years) stayed here in January 2015 for 2 nights. It was beautiful! We arrived first and built a fire in the fireplace and turned up the heat and before the rest got there, the house was nice and cozy. The owners labeled where everything was located in the kitchen, and it was well stocked. This house had history, plenty of room for all of us and kid friendly. We walked a block or so to a nice restaurant, and shopped downtown. Very convenient. We can only imagine how lovely this place would be in the summer months. Thank you, Jim, for the instructions and information. We all had a wonderful time!
