The master bedroom boasts a king-size bed and en-suite bath. The second bedroom has a queen bed with a full bath directly across the hall. Towels and bedding are all provided…all you need to bring is your clothes, food and personal items.

Our home is situated on Prospect Mountain which gives you a beautiful view of the 1880 Train from the deck while sipping your favorite glass of wine or beer (did we mention there are 5 wineries & 3 breweries to visit in Hill City?) A grill is available for your use.

Hill City is centrally located to all the major attractions in the Black Hills. Crazy Horse is only 8 minutes away; Mt. Rushmore is 15 minutes away. Custer State Park beckons with buffalo, elk, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and donkeys. If you are really lucky you will also see the mountain goats and the big horn sheep! You can rent ATV's just outside town or take a trail ride on a great little horse!

And, Hill City itself is a fabulous, quaint little town. You can visit unique shops (The Farmer's Daughter), peruse some of the finest art in the Black Hills (there are 4 art galleries), ride the 1880 Train, or come face-to-face with Stan…the T-Rex! And, of course, the restaurants are amazing!

Also available a couple blocks from our home is the Mickelson Trail where you can ride bikes (rentals available downtown), walk, run, or jog. The Trail is 109 miles through the middle of the Black Hills. Gorgeous!!

So come to the Black Hills…stay with us! You will be glad you did!

About Rick & Lorena Freis

We started vacationing in the Black Hills in 2000 and knew immediately that we wanted to live here at some point! In 2009, we were able to make our dream come true when we purchased this beautiful home, overlooking Hill City, SD. Now, we want to share our home and our love of the Black Hills with those who visit here.

We live in the lower level of our home with our old cat, Rizzo. You may see her wander when hanging out on the deck!

Rick & Lorena Freis purchased this townhome in 2009

Why Rick & Lorena Freis chose Hill City

Originally, this home fit our needs as we were caring for a family member. It allowed us a total separate living space while giving us easy access to the main level if needed. When our family member moved, we decided it was time to bring our home back to the original purpose...a vacation home.

What makes this townhome unique

Hill City is centrally located to all the major attractions in the Black Hills, making it a perfect place to live. When we saw the incredible views of the forest and the 1880 Train, we knew this was the perfect place for us! Now you too, can share in the beauty of our home and our neighborhood!

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property indoor with a great view outside! The house is beautifully decorated and wonderfully supplied with everything you need for carefree days and nights. Mornings for coffee and evenings with wine on the deck enjoying the view and weather were awesome!

Rick and Lorena Freis were the perfect hosts. Rick had great tips on fishing for trout and Lorena took care of shipping a special present for me!

And it’s conveniently located for fishing, shopping and visiting most of the sites! Within walking distance of the downtown area with plenty of restaurants. A small lake and the Mickelson Trail are both at the bottom of the hill.

We are currently discussing bringing the whole family next time!

It was more than enough of room for our group of 4. Very comfortable and functional. We utilized all amenities. They had everything we needed there that made our stay very enjoyable. Owners were very friendly. The people of Hill City were very welcoming also!

Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in the Black Hills. This was the cleanest property that we have ever stayed at ever, and was exactly as promised. They had all their bases covered, to the extent of having a second back-up tank of propane for the grill, just in case. (We didn't need it, but I'm thinking it's a great idea to have an extra at my home:) The owners are available for questions and idea's of things to do and see. We have already recommended this property to anyone heading to the Black Hills, and should we come back it's the place we will want to stay.

A great experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was great. We were really impressed with the pace. It’s even nicer than the pictures indicate. Perfect location for a stay in the Black Hills. It’s centrally located and the owners provide a pass to Custer State Park. I highly recommend this property and plan on returning when we next visit.

Very clean lodging & friendly host

  • 4 of 5

Our time in the Black Hills was enhanced by this gem on the hill. We appreciated the prompt feedback before traveling & the helpful recommendations by Lorena upon arrival. Custer State Park delivered more memories than imagined! As we’re privileged to travel, we love adventures without eating out every meal & confess we really like a well-stocked kitchen. This property contained all basics needed. We discussed returning to the area in the future & would strongly consider staying again if the home’s available.
