Why Sara Vosloo chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

We purchased this house in 2001 and have been spending summers here ever since. We cannot imagine a better place to spend the summer. From hiking to boating Mount Desert Island is a place you will want to comeback to time and again. We hope you will enjoy the house and area as much as we have.

Great house. Great location.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable house. The photos are accurate. The owners were freindly and responsive. There are three large BRs upstairs. MBR has king bed and full bath. Downstairs has a very nice kitchen well supplied. There is a second full bath on the first floor. We spent every evening on the front porch. The houseis close to most activities around Acadia. Restaurants, Hiking, Beach, Ocean walks. SW Harbor is very close with some nice shops/restaurants. Bar Harbor is busy with difficult parking so from here we drove to the visitor center (10-15 min drive) and took a 10 minute ride to Bar Harbor on the free Island Express. There is an Island Express stop within walking distance of this house if you are so inclined. We would stay here again.

A place to feel at home and on holiday at the same time!!

  • 5 of 5

Not too far away from the activities of Acadia but distant enough to recoup and recharge in peace and privacy. This is a lovely home in a charming area. The house is clean, well taken care of, and simply decorated. The first morning of our stay we woke to a large deer standing statuesque in the backyard. Plenty of room for my husband and 4 adult children ages 28 to 15. We loved playing wiffle ball in late afternoons in the spacious yard, roasting lobster on the back porch, and settling down to marshmallow treats around the fire pit in the evenings. Kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures make this place up to date without compromising the home's timeless character. This was our first visit to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park and are sooo pleased we were lucky enough to have found this home. Thank you Sara for responding to my emails when I had questions. Reread the other reviews and I feel they are spot on.

Fantastic house on the quiet side of Acadia

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect spot for my family of 5 to stay during our vacation to Acadia! It had a large, well kept yard for my 3 boys to run around, complete with a firepit area and a grill. All of the finishes throughout the house were high quality and the house was spotlessly clean. The huge porch on the front of the house was a great spot to relax and I wish we would have had more time to enjoy it! The bedrooms are large with firm mattresses and nice linens. Washer and dryer in the basement are a must have when taking kids into Acadia because they will get dirty! Southwest Harbor is just minutes away and it's about a 20-25 minute drive to Bar Harbor. There are lots of things to do on the quiet side of the island and we were very glad to be in that area instead of near Bar Harbor. The kitchen was well stocked and had a very nice Viking stove/oven. Be forewarned though that you are the dishwasher! My family loved this house and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It had enough space for us to spread out and wind down after a long day of hiking trails.

Great House in a Great Place

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable house. It's a nicely restored older Mt. Desert Island house in Manset/Southwest Harbor. Southwest Harbor is a Maine working harbor at the base of Somes Sound and away from the busier Bar Harbor. It's a charming place in so many small ways, and has first-rate restaurants. The house reminds me of farm houses in Iowa (my birthplace). The owners, Sara and Ian, restored the woodwork and floors and saved the homey and comfortable nature of the house. The house is very nicely furnished and decorated, and the kitchen has a superb stove. The owners are great hosts who are accommodating and connected to their guests. My wife and I were married on Mt. Desert Island and have stayed twice in this house for our wedding anniversary visits, and we hope to return.
