About Martha Holmes

My husband and I (Jonathan and Martha) currently live in Los Altos, California (about 30 miles south of San Francisco).. We have lived and worked in this area for 30 years and raised our son who is now 20 and in college . We all fell in love with the Blaine area when visiting my mother and brother who have lived there for 7 years. We finally decided to buy a vacation home and the minute we walked into this one we knew it was perfect. Jonathan is planning to retire soon and we hope to split out time between Blaine and Los Altos. It is a wonderful little town and beautiful home.

Even though we are not "on site" we have many local contacts and I am available by phone all the time if you need anything

Martha Holmes purchased this house in 2014

Our group of two couples and a single stayed for the NYE 2018 weekend. Wonderful place. Very comfortable. The couch in the picture has been replaced with a larger one. The house has a very well supplied kitchen (pots, pans, utensils, plates, towels, etc), as well as the entire house is well stocked with games, blankets, etc. As if you lived there. Typically I have found the pictures of rentals can make the the rooms look bigger than what they really are. That does not apply to this house. The rooms are spacious as shown. We all highly recommend this home for a stay.

Beautiful waterfront views!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place for our three-generation family Christmas! Blaine is a small, quiet town right on the border— an ideal location for our Canadian and American family members to meet. The house was decorated with a tree and all sorts of thoughtful holiday additions that made us feel right at home. Very quiet, clean, comfortable beds, a terrific view, and a well-stocked kitchen with room for multiple cooks. It was charming, cozy and just perfect for the six of us. We walked in nearby parks every day, despite the very cold winter weather. And after the chilly excursions, we could come home, turn on the fireplace, make hot cocoa and watch the abundance of waterfowl, including bald eagles, from the wall of windows across the great room.

You can't get down to the water at the house (unless you scramble down a steep embankment) but the beach at Semiamoo is just a few minutes away. Birch Bay has a nice beach park with trails and a playground for kids as well. And you can wander through the Montfort Park wetlands trail at the end of the street.

We really appreciated how responsive Martha was, quickly answering emails and giving detailed information about the rental. It all went very smoothly.

great, relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our little group, two couples and two dogs thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing weekend. We explored some local restaurants and also cooked in the well-appointed kitchen.

We walked through little Monfort Park with the dogs and watched the tide come in and go out. We really appreciate Sawyer and Stuart were allowed to join us. Our group is already talking about a possible return next year.

The house is as depicted on the site and very clean. A great location.

Great house, great location

  • 5 of 5

This property has a superb location on the bay, and has been designed to maximize that location. The great-room has a wall of windows, bringing the outdoors inside. The deck was a favorite place to sit, read, eat and drink. BBQ steaks, ribs and salmon were the perfect way to cap a day of golf for the four of us. The kitchen was better equipped than most rentals I have had, and the house itself was spotless. Dealing with the owner rather than a manager or agency was a pleasure, Martha was responsive and helpful, and if we had any issues (which we did not) I feel she would have not hesitated to resolve them.
