About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 15 Sleeps

Charming four bedroom house right on the lake. Large yard, dock, fire-pit, and more. Catch the setting sun in the living room, deck, patio, or family room. There is a twenty foot pontoon boat available for rental. We also have Kayaks, a Stand-Up Paddle Board, and a Paddle Boat available at no extra charge.

We have another cabin on the same lake that we've been renting for a while now. Please feel free to read the reviews: http://www.vrbo.com/568235 Do you have a really large group? Then inquire about renting both cabins at the same time.

This house features a full kitchen, washer and drier, and two bathrooms. The lake is great for swimming and fishing. You can swim right out front. There is also a public beach with lifeguard just a few hundred feet from the cabin. Dogs are welcome. Grill your days catch on the deck overlooking the lake with our new gas grill.

Elk lake is the best swimming lake in the county. There is a public sandy beach with lifeguards (Certain hours only) only a couple hundred yards away.

Both Elk and Lower Elk are great sand bottom fishing lakes. In either lake you can go after Walleye, Northern Pike, Large mouth Bass, Crappie, and Sunfish. You're able to fish from the shore, the docks or from a boat.

Only two miles away you can find Hoffman, MN. Hoffman is a small quiet town but you'll be able to get most of the necessities you'll need there. It has a gas station, a restaurant, a bar/restaurant, grocery store, liquor store, and other shops. If you like to golf, we have a special deal with Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course in Elbow Lake.

If you need a little more action than sleepy Hoffman is able to provide that's not a problem as you're only about twenty minutes away from Alexandria MN. Alexandria has lots of shopping at dozens of antique stores and other shops. There are plenty of restaurants, retail stores, golf courses, and even a winery.

We'd really love to share our little bit of heaven with you.

Key words: Sandy Shore, fishing, walleye, kayak, cabin, pontoon, golf, relaxation.

Family Vacation August 2017

  • 4 of 5

Great time for our family of 11, including our daughter, our son, their spouses & our 5 grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to19. House was roomy enough for all of us. The lower level included a large family room with foosball table, dart board, TV & separate sleeping area. Deck was perfect for eating outside & being able to see the lake. House was well stocked with kitchen utensils, towels, etc - awesome having a washer & dryer to use. Large yard was perfect for outside games & for the dog to enjoy. Kids loved having the 2 kayaks, paddleboat & paddleboard to use. Younger grandkids caught fish off the dock & we were able to catch some out on the lake, including a walleye, some nice crappies, lots of blue gills. My husband had fun catching bass including a 19" one that gave him lots of fightl (The bass all went back in the lake after pictures were taken.) The lake is small (about a mile long and not real wide) but not busy - nice for fishing but not real good for large recreational boats. The lake stays calm so we were able to leave our boat tied up to the dock every night. The free boat landing is close so it was handy for our son-in-law to take his boat out each night.

Tim was very good to reply to questions we had & saved us on our last day by letting us use a spare battery when ours didn't work. Thanks, Tim.

There are some well-built steps down to the lake but has an incline getting to the steps that doesn't have a rail so anyone with balance problems might have trouble. Tim did talk about putting in a rail along the brick incline.

Ideal Home for Large Family Traveling With Pets Desiring a Quiet Lake to Swim, Fish, Boat and Bike

  • 4 of 5

The combination of a large home, pet friendly policy, location of home on lake, free use of paddle boat, two kayaks and stand up paddle board, as well as rental of pontoon boat, and nearby attractions of a bike path, park, and swimming beach at this price point is almost impossible to find! It truly is a gem and we had a fabulous time with our four kids and dog.

Highlights of the property that I did not see in other reviews or the summary of the property include: nice rope hammock, lake toys/gear (buckets, fishing net, floaties), 2 car garage to park cars (which came in handy when a big storm came through) and store gear/bikes, closet full of games and craft stuff for kids

Other highlights: catching a 20 inch walleye and a 20 inch large mouth bass from the paddleboat; catching 100s of bluegill from the dock (almost every time we dropped in a line, we had a bite); spending hours catching frogs in the shallow shoreline; sitting by the fire ring in the evenings; working with the owners (Jody brought us live bait one day; Tim checked in on us to make sure we knew how to use the pontoon and knew where extra gas and spare battery were; Tim gave us a heads up about a storm coming our way as well as followed up to make sure we were okay afterwards).

Lowlights: There are 15 steps from the dock to the basement of the house and another 10.5 steps from the basement to the main floor of the house or you can walk up a path around to the front of the house. Something to consider if you have very young children or older folks or anyone who can't handle stairs. The house is air conditioned with one window unit in the living room and one window unit in the bedroom. Thankfully there were six box fans in the house so we were able to set them up and get some air flow to the other bedrooms at night. Something to consider if you like sleeping in cooler temperatures or have allergies and can't open up the house. The house needs a little TLC. It is an older home and in need of some repairs. For example, the doorway to the basement is missing the door (something to consider if you have young children). The front door has a hole that needs to be repaired. Some of the screens have holes so pesky mosquitoes can get in. None of these issues impacted our fun, but something to consider if you are a stickler for pristine properties.

To end on a positive note, we would definitely consider returning to this property and highly recommend it!

Casual living with good fishing!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year my family has vacationed at one of the Moen properties on Elk Lake. We choose this particular home because it sleeps more people. It is an older home, reasonably well maintained, with bedrooms configured to fit an assortment of children and adults. For me, a lake vacation must include good swimming and a boat to fish with. This private place has both. There is a dock and swimming area right in front of the house, and there is a public beach within walking or paddling distance. This turned out to be a great asset, as there is a lifeguard, diving dock, and other kids to meet. It's really fun to return to the same place each year and measure the skills progress. The boat assortment includes a fishing boat and motor, a paddle board, two kayaks, and a paddle boat. Plus, there are lots of water toys and a towing tube. We fished with good success daily. The most common catch is sunfish and bass, but also the occasional walleye. Tim is knowledgeable and generous about the fishing hot spots, so we can depend on at least one fish meal!

The master bedroom has a double bed and bathroom with shower. There's a window air conditioner in this room, and a room air conditioner in the living room. Most days, these keep the air in the house cool. There's cable tv both upstairs and down. The yard is quite large, so there's plenty of space for lawn games.

The town of Hoffman is pretty small, so if you like to shop, Alexandria is the place to go. Hoffman has the essentials. and a really lovely old-time park in the middle of town, which can be a nice change of pace. There is a new walking/biking path leading from town to the public beach. There are a few golf courses about 20 minutes away. We played at Hardwood Hills, which is a challenging executive nine course.

Elk Lake has a public campgrounds and access near the beach, but the rest of the lake has very few homes directly on the water. It is a quiet place with very little traffic, especially during the week. I rate this property as five stars not because it has luxury accommodations, but because it is a great mix of distance from my home, great swimming and fishing, and enough variety to entertain all ages.

Well maintained. Older. Great walkout to the dock.

  • 4 of 5

Great weather, great fishing, a myriad of water equipment, ample space to accommodate 3 families and a very kind understanding owner who helped us with the pontoon challenges. We stayed here 6 days and 5 nights. The house is older. There was is a considerable hill and flights of stairs to get to the dock. A quiet private lake so not a lot of traffic on it. Lots of parking and a big yard in the back to play soccer in. My grand kids loved it! All in all it is worth the price.

Family get away

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay! We had three generations together for the first time in a few years. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, shopping in Alexandria, time on the pontoon, playing yard games, and making great memories. The home is cozy and has all the basics you need to enjoy your time away. The area is quiet and peaceful. The lake is warm and we caught several fish. This was our first experience in renting a house like this and we'll definitely do it again. Tim and Jody were great to work with and helpful when we had questions. The home is easy to get to and close to a lot of fun things to do. Thanks for a great time!!

Spacious, quiet home

  • 5 of 5

There is lots of room. Huge front yard for many outside games. The house had so much room people could just relax and not feel cramped. Looking forward to go back to this place again.
