Houseboat Heaven - Romantic Riverfront Suite in SW Portland

Bedrooms 1
Space 51 m²
Property type house boat
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Riverfront 1 Bed/1 Bath Suite w/ Private Entry

Pristine, serene, IN-CITY private houseboat master SUITE (not the whole houseboat) on the lovely Willamette River. This is a small, upscale floating home community, the only one actually within Portland proper on the downtown (southwest) side of the Willamette River. Located 2.5 miles directly south of the downtown core, but an island of tranquility between checking out the Portland action.

Portland is famous as a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, wine and beer connoisseurs, garden lovers, foodies, art lovers, water sports - you name it. My houseboat is located right smack in the middle of it all and just seven minutes by car or Lyft/Uber from downtown Portland. And no bridges to cross!

*NOTE: Guests do not have access to the main portion of the house where I live, nor do I have access to your waterfront suite, except in an emergency. There is a private guest entry. While the lower waterside deck is shared with me, I do my best to give my guests privacy most of the time except for those times when I need to occasionally water plants, or do my daily paddle board. But I have my own decks upstairs, too. :)

The master suite has a private deck entrance, bath and sitting area. Gorgeous new waterside cedar deck. Enjoy wildlife, fish, swim, sip wine by the river-rock gas fire pit. Faces west to park setting and beautiful sunsets.

* You've never slept on a bed this comfortable! A lush new memory foam queen mattress with Pottery Barn linens and plenty of great pillows.

* Private bath with tiger bamboo flooring, nine-foot cedar ceilings, double granite sinks, heated towel racks, heated bidet, and 6-ft soaking tub which is a shower/tub combo.

*A small nook is located off the sitting area with a good-sized bar fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and tea maker.

* Guests must sign waiver to use bikes.

* WIFI, of course.

* No local cable TV - Roku with Netflix, HBO, Hulu Plus, and dozens of other cable channels.

(In-between eating and drinking!)

* Oak Park just across the river for beaching, summer concerts, walking the nature paths. and historic amusement park

(If you ever get tired of all that vibrant, eclectic Portland offers!)

* Stunning beaches 1 hour west to the fabled Oregon Coast

* Check-in: 3pm Check-out: 11am

* Please let me know your arrival time by at least 48 hours before your stay so I can plan to meet you and give you the quick tour.

** IMPORTANT: Individual liability releases MUST be signed upon arrival by all parties BEFORE use of recreational equipment.

* I do NOT accept children under 15 years of age for water safety reasons. I love kids but it can be dangerous here with unprotected dock edges EVERYWHERE!

* Absolutely no pets, although, yes, I love dogs and have a very gentle 50-lb labradoodle.

* No more than TWO PERSONS per stay. There is only one queen bed and no room for an air mattress or sleeping on the deck. Sorry! And no, they cannot sleep on the couch.

* No parties please, other than small dinners on the deck. ( ...Heavy drinking and/or partying do NOT mix with houseboat risks of living on top of water. Trust me.)

* Bugs? Almost none. Really.

* Only 10 car minutes south of downtown Portland, 15-20 min. by bike along riverfront trail;

•Three miles north of downtown Lake Oswego

• 2 miles from downtown Portland (7 minutes)

• 2.4 miles to OHSU tram (8 minutes) (or drive to OHSU in 12 min.)

• 6 miles to Portland State University (12 min.)

• 16 miles to Nike (27 min.)

• 18 miles from Intel in Hillsboro (32 min.)

• Bus line just 1 block away

* NOTE ABOUT SEASICK QUESTIONS: My houseboat - floating home, technically - is VERY stable. You may notice a very SLIGHT movement once a day or less, but mostly you will not even know you are on a floating home. That has never been an issue with anyone down here in big homes like mine. In addition, I am on the inside on something like a lagoon, so I miss the main channel turbulence. Plus, my entire float was completely rebuilt in 2015 to add even more stability so, no, you won't get seasick. That being said, there's always a first...

** I reserve the right to limit swimming or bicycle usage during certain times of year under any of the following circumstances:

* I deem weather conditions are unsafe.

* I believe a person is under the influence of a substance that may impair them.

* I believe a person is not fit enough to be safe.

I want to keep my guests safe so they'll come back...

About Jennifer Moran

I grew up in Newport Beach, CA, on the bay and have been a water nut ever since. Play on it, swim in it, or just sit by it and feel the peace. I am an artist by trade (write and shoot, mostly for television) and have lived all over the US (Boston, Tucson, Seattle, Nashville, Idaho, Colorado, and Southern California to name a few.) I live here with my very quiet labradoodle and love meeting folks, traveling and learning about other cultures. I am happy to converse, but also happy to leave you alone if you prefer. I am very careful about giving my guests privacy and the lower deck is mostly yours.

Why Jennifer Moran chose Portland

Portland is the perfect mix of an eclectic, vibrant city with tons to do, explore, eat and drink, and filled with laid-back, community-minded people - and all surrounded by stunning nature, from the mountains to the beaches. My houseboat is the perfect combination of being close to all that this cool city offers, while also being a little island of tranquility and nature away from the city hustle. Lay low on the dock, or go out and explore all this part of Oregon offers - then come back to quiet relaxation and sunset on the river.

Floating home communities live in close proximity to each other so we work at being good neighbors. This is NOT a party house and no other guests are allowed to visit without previous permission from me. (I don't mind a couple of folks, but parties are NOT permitted.) Please be respectful of quiet hours, as well as the rest of the time. We like to have fun and hope you do, too, but if you are bothering the neighbors I reserve the right to ask you to quiet down. If it gets really bad, I can ask you to leave. So please be mellow and respectful. If you come in late or leave early, please do it quietly - we WILL hear you.

Amazing, simply cannot wait to return

  • 5 of 5

This property is idyllic. It sits on the "peaceful side" of the marina where wildlife abounds and the skyscape is luminous; it grabbed ahold of us like few other places ever have. The suite and decks are artfully appointed. The indoor space is perfect for kicking back and settling in. The decks are generous in their sizing with seating for dining and for relaxing. We used the fire pit in the early mornings while we read outside and in the evenings for quiet conversation over glasses of wine. Simply coming down the gangplanks and looking around was a visual delight. "Loved it" doesn't begin to cover our sentiment. We needed quiet, got quiet....but the place was also "nourishing". We simply felt better for having been there. Our hostess was cordial and welcoming, forthcoming with lots of information on where to go, how to get there, etc. Loved her, too. She's a large part of the reason we can't wait to return.

Owner's Response: Hi Luan and Bob, thank you for the beautiful review and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it the way that I do. The highlight for me was sitting by the fire with you all with a glass of wine and listening to your cousin play his fabulous ukulele tunes. Please please come back! Jennifer

Relaxing and quiet

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights, very relaxing and quiet. We did not spend a lot of time during the day, as we went into Portland each day. We loved coming back away from the city and spending time by the fire. The unit was clean and exactly how it is described. Thank you Jennifer for your hospitality.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Lovely place to stay. Very quiet, which was one of the reasons we chose this place. After doing things all day, we were able to relax by the fire and watch the wildlife on the river. The best rest ever while on vacation! Comfortable beds, plus all the things you need and more. This place is close to markets, downtown, parks and trails. The location makes it easy to drive to Wilamette wineries, Oregon coast, and the Gorge areas. We rented a vehicle as we had been to Washington state prior, but you could take buses, bike, or do the tours if you choose. Also check out the Sellwood area across the river. Many cute shops. Cafes, breweries, and activities there in walking distance. Thank you, Jennifer!

Owner's Response: Thank you Shellie! So glad that you and your husband had such a great time. Seems like your trip was a perfect mix of visiting all my favorite places such as the coast, Hood River, and the wineries- as well as getting your R&R here on the dock. Hope to see you back again one day- :). Jennifer

Fun floating home on the idyllic Willamette River

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay. Lovely, relaxing home on the river. Jennifer supplies a paddle boat and paddle boards to enjoy the calm and scenic Willamette. There are also bicycles to explore the gorgeous trail along the river that heads into Portland. We were there on the 4th of July so a bonus was watching the fireworks right from the deck! Another day was spent on a Wine and Waterfall tour and we reveled in the beautiful and diverse Oregon countryside. We were there 3 days~you could spend a week and not see everything the Portland area has to offer.

Very enjoyable stay at Houseboat Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

I was very lucky to be able to stay on this beautiful houseboat out in nature. Such a peaceful setting in Macadam Bay and sitting out on the deck with the gas fire pit at the end of the day was a great way to unwind. Jennifer could not have been nicer and provided everything I needed from a bike to easily get anywhere to paddle board to other great ideas and POIs for a truly enjoyable trip. The location is close to everything in Portland and for amazing day trips to the Mt. Hood Scenic Loop for Multnomah Falls, the town of Hood River (lunch) & Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood for mountain-top views from the lodge. Also head West for Cannon Beach and Ecola park for hiking. Highly recommended. With the restaurant & brewery options there are so many great places to check out. Jakes Seafood, Reverend BBQ, and Muddy Rudder were delicious. Houseboat Heaven certainty lives up to its name. You will be glad you booked!

Peaceful, relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Would have preferred a view of the river, but we enjoyed the animal life that visited us. Apartment was comfortable, but needed a cooling mechanism for the 90-degree weather we experienced. Would also have been great to have small cooking facilities. Jennifer is a warm, thoughtful, gracious host. We'd come back just to interact with her!

Owner's Response: Hi Linda, Thanks for your nice review. Apparently you didn't notice that I have excellent air conditioning in the rental unit as part of my heat pump system. I must have forgotten to mention it that first day when I showed you the thermostat because it was still so cool out. I apologize and only wish you had let me know. I also make it very clear in my advertising that I don't have an actual kitchen, nor am I on the main channel. And in fact, I prefer my location because I love western sunsets, get a lot more sun and privacy, have calmer waters, and a much bigger, nature-filled deck area. Thanks for being gracious guests, Jennifer
