About Michelle Bautz

We grew up in North Dakota vacationing in the Alexandria area. We love everything about lake cabin life from swimming and boating to fishing and camp fires. We are the kind of people that blow up all of our "floaties" each spring to see which floating lounge chairs, air mattresses, and tubes need replacing! We do like winter activities in Minnesota but there is something so exciting about seeing the ice come off and the docks go in every Spring!

Michelle Bautz purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Michelle Bautz chose Farwell

You might not even believe how unique this property is. It is located at the very point of a finger of land that extends out into Mill Lake. The cabin is almost right on top of the water...on 3 sides! There is great parking, even if you are bringing a boat trailer. There are two docks and even a boat lift if you want to bring your boat. The cabin faces the lake with a wall of windows and with a giant deck for watching sunrises and sunsets. Young kids literally go crazy for the lofted sleeping area. The interior of the cabin is finished with pine and has both a dining table and counter bar area with 4 stools.

Fantastic Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Eight of us stayed here for a long weekend and it was a great place and Michelle was an awesome host. The property was just as advertised and had lots of room for yard games as well as a nice area to swim around the docks. The interior was very clean and stocked with everything you could want. There was a grill that we took advantage of and it worked perfectly and ample firewood was provided so we got to sit around the fire all night with no worries. We will definitely be back for our next trip up north!

Beautiful, clean, well stocked. Swimming area was good and the grandkids caught plenty of fish. Fun!

  • 5 of 5

Described as an "adorable" family cabin was quite apt, we really enjoyed ourselves. We take a cabin each year to spend a week with our 2 children, their spouses and our two grand kids. This was one of the better choices we've made. Good swimming. Good fishing. Good evening fires near the lake. Good weather. In fact, the final star was for the amazing cooperation we got from mother nature, she cleared the skies for a couple of hours allowing us to view the solar eclipse. That certainly made it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Special thanks to Michelle for being such a generous and kind accommodater. It was wonderful.

Wonderful Cabin - Beautiful Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful cabin to stay in & the lake is great! Good fishing & we were able to have several wonderful campfires to sit around & enjoy. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful & relaxing place to stay & yet close to all the fun activities in nearly Alexandria.

You might not ever want to leave this quiet and beautiful lake. But if you do, some of our favorite local attractions include:

Zorbaz and Bugaboo-Bay for lakeside dining

6th Avenue Wine and Ale for great glass of wine or beer

Casey's amusement park for go-karts, bumper boats, and mini golf

Carlos Creek Winery for local wine and music

The Maritime Museum has a truly amazing collection of vintage boats

Downtown Alexandria for great boutique and antique shopping

Many local butchers (Grilling!) - Forada Meats is a favorite

The Interlachen Inn is an old-school supper club with great steaks

The Alexandria bike trails wind through lakes and woods

Lots of great golf - Geneva Golf Club is our favorite

Check the Theater Le Homme Dieu schedule for a unique experience

The movie theater, bowling alley, and mall aren't unique but are fun

No trip to Alexandria is complete without seeing the Big Ole statue

And here's what the official Alexandria web site says:

Alexandria is located in the heart of lake country in West Central Minnesota and serves as the county seat of Douglas County. The city population is 13,045 within city limits, but the unique layout of over 300 lakes in the county makes the service area more like 35,000 people. It’s a perfect balance of size which offers quiet and quaint relaxation, while also possessing comfortable full services and all the best shopping, dining and overnight accommodations that you can imagine. While all the lakes and woods provide great outdoor opportunities, you can also find plenty of fun around many of our attractions. Alexandria has a thriving Downtown district, excellent trails, plenty of arts, museums, parks, wineries and a whiskey distillery. (from
