About Elena Steiner

I moved to Colorado from Europe back in 2004, and after searching for a new ski patrol family, settled on Ski Cooper Ski patrol and Leadville, Colorado. To go along with the job, and to have a welcoming front door up in the high country, I bought my "cabin in the hills" in 2011. (Search for a poem by that name once you arrive, and you'll see why I love it so much!)

There is absolutely nothing like driving up to the mountains in the afternoon to escape daily worries. As my dad once said, "When I go up on the mountain, the world disappears." It does indeed. I never tire of the mountain views in any season or at any time of day.

Work is taking me away from the cabin I love for a short while, so I hope you will enjoy it for me while I'm gone and leave me a story in the guest book. Come back often!

Why Elena Steiner chose South Central Colorado

I searched for a house like this in Leadville for 7 years, and once I found it, I added all the homey features anyone would want in a cabin getaway. It was decorated and renovated with relaxation and recreation in mind--whether it is a day of rock climbing, snow boarding, or grabbing a blanket and reading a book by the fire.

What makes this cabin unique

The #1 thing you will love about the house is the brand new kitchen. Tons of counter space and cabinets full of everything you could need. Friends and family have room to cook together and sit up at the bar or move into the dining room for extra space. There is also nothing like a cozy fire in the wood stove in the middle of winter or on a cool summer evening. Last and definitely not least--tankless hot water. You can run dishes and take shower after shower without running out.

Great spot in Leadville!

We've stayed here a couple times, and will always try to come back. Only thing missing is an outside deck and grill!

This will not be the last time we stay here. Our son lives in Leadville so this place could not have been any better. The cabin has a lot of room, large kitchen, two bathrooms and is perfect for our unique large family. We felt completely at home for the 5 days we were there. I can't wait to visit again and stay here again. Thank you Elena for sharing your beautiful cabin.

Owner's Response: Joy, thank you so much for your heartfelt comments! I'm so glad you enjoyed my home away from home. It makes me smile, knowing that families are having fun and making memories there when I can't be there myself to do the same. So looking forward to your next trip! Kind regards, Elena

Perfect for a family celebration

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this beautiful property. It looks very historic and rustic from the outside while the interior has been creatively and beautifully remodeled. The kitchen and dining room were well equipped and perfect for our family meals. We did have one 60-something adult sleeping in one of the top bunks and they recommended it for younger folk.

The owner was wonderful to work with and we will look forward to staying at this property again.

Labor Day getaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this house again to enjoy a relaxing holiday weekend. The house was great. Enjoyed being in town when it wasn't so crazy with large racing events. Spent hours at the mining museum, our third visit to the museum, and each time we've been impressed with exhibits.
