Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time staying in cabin 3 and were very pleased with the property and cabin. The cabin was well outfitted and we were easily able to cook with the wide range of gear provided and loved being able to grill on the gas barbeque out back. The jar of homemade jam was a lovely touch. The cabin was comfortable and clean; we could have used a clean towel for each of us twice a day and still had more available. With screens on the windows, we got gentle breezes through the house at the times of day it was warm but were not at all bothered by the bugs. The fire pit by the river was a big hit for late evening s'mores. The cabin was situated nicely so that the guests that arrived in cabin 2 were likely as oblivious of us as we were of them. The 2 covered porches were also great to have.

The night we arrived, my husband immediately took his fishing pole down to the river and hooked a fish! Though we were a little bit early for the best fishing, we still loved our time on the nearby rivers with our guide, Jan Patricio, and with his expertise, did catch a few fish. In addition to the fishing, we spent some time biking and hiking and we very excited to get to see some mountain goats up close as well as many deer. The wildflowers were blooming all over and we picked a different bouquet of them each day we were there.

We were pleased to get to see your new lodge almost finished and very impressed at how nice it was. We are trying to figure out a group of friends we might entice to come with us so that we can fill up the lodge on another trip there someday. I can see that it would be an excellent location for a big group to gather.

Having videos to watch was great for some after dark entertainment as were the games and puzzle provided. The one CD option for music made us laugh, though I don't recall what it was.

Stunning property with stunning house and deck. Secluded.

  • 5 of 5

There were 9 of us and 4 dogs that spent the Labor Day Weekend at the Lodge. What a perfect place it was for a crowd. It was spotless when we arrived. The decor is lovely, comfortable and appropriate for a Lodge. The kitchen is amazing with all the latest appliances and is very well stocked. The long dining room table made for easy family dinners. The beds were most comfortable. The deck that goes 3/4 around the house has plenty of furnishings for relaxing and entertaining. The gas grill is huge and easy to use. The boat house has a big array of water craft and the fishing was good. The acerage is perfect for dogs to romp and chase. Robert and Jeanie are gracious hosts with homemade jams waiting for us and a warm fruit crisp delivered on our first morning. They know the area well and gave us wise counsel on what to do. We look forward to returning to The Lodge often.

Owner's Response: Gayle, Thank you for writing such a lovely review - what a great pleasure it was to host your family. Our Lodge really is ideal for groups/families with the two king bedroom suites, queen bedroom suite and loft with three more queen beds and a full bath. I think that having four bathrooms makes spending time together so much nicer. That table is special - reclaimed barnwood and a great place for families to gather. We appreciate your kind words and look forward to hosting your family again in the future. Jeanie

Rural Montana from A River Runs Through It!

  • 4 of 5

The property is very rural & we stayed in cabin 1, which had a view of the lake & its own dock. Guests have free use of paddle boards, kayaks, canoes & a motorized canoe. I thought that was really awesome as most places charge extra for that. The swimming was not that great as we thought the water was very silty at the bottom, not sure if that is the whole river system or just around cabin 1. We did not try fishing but we were told that it was some of the best trout fishing in Montana.

The cabin itself is beautifully constructed & has a loft w/3 twin beds & a queen all in a row & a separate master bedroom on the main level. There is a large living room w/basic cable TV & 1 couch & 1 large loveseat w/ottoman. There was also a large DVD selection. The kitchen has everything you need w/a gas stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster & kettle. There is salt/pepper, tea/coffee provisions & the owner left us a bottle of jam & some farm fresh eggs, which was a thoughtful gesture. There is a large dining table at bar height & plenty of towels, tp & tissue paper. The bathroom only has a shower & the water pressure was not very good, but, we made do & had quick showers. There is a washer/dryer combo, which is great for a family & we used it, lol.

There is a gas bbq & seating on the porch. There is no air conditioning so be warned as we were there during a heat wave:). The cabin cools down greatly at night though so that was a plus & there are 2 ceiling fans upstairs & 2 plug in fans downstairs.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay. I would not categorize this cabin as luxurious but it was a wonderful mid-level cabin & the price can't be beat. We had to leave 1 day early as we had a sick baby & did not get to try the hiking in the area.

The owners are very friendly & stopped by during our stay to say hi & also to say farewell & it is these considerate actions that places this property above more pricey places.

I also think it is a perfect father/son fishing, boating trip location. My spouse thought this the first day he arrived. We would definitely come back when our kiddos are older!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we do hope to see you back again in the future! I appreciate the time that you took to share so many details about Cabin #1 and about your stay. Bills Place (aka cabin #1) is a rustic cabin, full log, and it has become a first choice for many clients over the years. Please be sure to call us directly to book next time and we can help you to select the cabin that is just right for your family and your needs. Its so nice to hear that the jam and fresh eggs are appreciated - we do want our clients to feel welcomed and at home in our cabins! As for swimming, the laminated information sheet in the cabin mentions the best place for swimming - there is a beach just up the creek and into the lake, its a few minute paddle by canoe or kayak or an easy drive around, out to the main highway and down a bit to get there. You are correct that the area near our dock is better suited to fishing than to swimming - I could not agree more! Gosh, I sure wish that you had mentioned the water pressure issue when we stopped by either time during your stay or that you had given us a call from the cabin to ask about it (that's why we leave our phone number on the welcome notes and ask people to call if there is anything we can do to make their stay wonderful) - It's the 'instant on' energy saving water heater that doesn't work quite like a standard one. I am so sorry that you did not mention that to us so that we could help you get it to work the way that you needed it to during your stay. Based on your feedback, we are going to add a little note to it so that everyone can have all the water pressure that they need and want. Thank you for mentioning that to us so that we could make that improvement. We look forward to your next visit and thank you again for taking the time to write such a detailed review.

Winter Wonderland!

  • 5 of 5

Great family vacation! We, my husband, our two boys (14 and 16), our dog and myself, had wanted to visit Montana for quite a few years now and we finally got to do so. After travelling for two days we arrived at cabin 2 in the afternoon of 12/23. Wow, what a beautiful site. This was exactly what we were looking for: a beautiful winter wonderland, a river, incredibly mountain views, a secluded, super clean, nicely furnished and stocked cabin. The road had been plowed, the lights on the porch were on, the cabin was warm and we even had some jam waiting for us. Jeanie and Robert came by the next day to check on us and to see if we needed anything. Such great hosts! We received quite a bit more snow during our 12 day stay but Robert plowed the roads whenever needed so we never had a problem getting in and out. Being from Southern California it was a treat for us to be able to find our own Christmas tree and bring it "home" and celebrating Christmas in this wonderful setting. Robert had even left us a saw and a Christmas tree stand. How thoughtful! We were able to spend some really nice family time together at this cabin and enjoyed our beautiful surroundings. I can very highly recommend this place during the winter season and would love to come back to see it in the summer. Thank you again Jeanie and Robert!!

Best honeymoon ever!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a mountain view, secluded, creek side cabin for our honeymoon and this place delivered. We stayed in the charming cabin 2 and it was perfect for us. The night before our departure was depressing because we didn't want to leave. The cabin was the cleanest place that I have stayed in and Robert and Jeannie (and Mynx) are truly awesome people. We plan on returning to what we now call "our cabin" in the spring with some friends of ours and we can't wait. I would highly recommend KRO to anyone wishing to find peace and quiet without being too terribly far from town or outdoor destinations such as fishing spots or hiking trails.
