About Carolyn Herkes
I love to travel but not enough. I love to cook and share my table. I love the smell of a freshly picked lemon and fresh herbs. I love my little animals and the flocks of different birds that play and swoon across Pondicherri. I’m social and then sometimes, I’m a bit reclusive. I love sunrises more than sunsets but both are spectacular and I’m lucky enough to experience and appreciate often. I’m grateful for living in a place that affords peace and privacy. And I enjoy meeting people. I do believe, to truly appreciate a place and region - and it’s own unique culture - staying with those who live there becomes a rich and memorable experience. Welcome to our village.
Carolyn Herkes purchased this Barn in 2001
Why Carolyn Herkes chose Penrice
Set on 5 acres, Pondicherri is a small acreage landholding with a cluster of small buildings and exudes a rustic village atmosphere. Its borrowed rural amenity and views are enabled as it is surrounded by much larger farming land creating a quiet private oasis yet close to everything within the Barossa Valley. Some of the buildings are of historic interest and date back to 1845.
What makes this Barn unique
We are only 5 minutes drive to the pretty historic village of Angaston that is well serviced with a varied selection of cafes, restaurants, 2 pubs, a supermarket, butcher, hardware, medical centre, post office and houses specialty Barossa food businesses. We are a 3-minute drive from the famed Barossa Valley Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning. There are many high-quality wineries, restaurants, food establishments and historic buildings to explore across the region. If food and wine are not your things, there are numerous walking and cycling trails, some easy bushwalks including spotting kangaroos at Kaisersthul Conservation Park. Or you could go ballooning or a helicopter ride for the bird's eye view! Just about everything except surfing! But we are about one hour's drive to the nearest South Australian coastline, only one+half hour's drive into the city of Adelaide and a one hour drive to the Adelaide Hills area. There is so much to do and explore in this beautiful part of Australia. Welcome to Pondicherri - a little bit of paradise in the Barossa.

Location, location, location.
Due to the fires we needed to change our plans (fortunately Carolyn was able to house us in another room on her property) so cannot comment on the barn stay but the property and lookout is stunning. Carolyn was very informative about the area and provided some fantastic recommendations. We look forward to returning to stay in the barn one day. :)
Cozy and relaxing
Fantastic private and quiet location 5 minutes out of town, very comfy bed and great new facilities. The place was spotless and hosts Carolyn and William were incredibly welcoming and helpful in giving local information and recommendations. Lots of great little touches in the Barn - board games, blankets so you can sit on your private deck and watch the stars at night. Highly recommend The Barn as a place for a getaway or a weekend exploring the Barossa. Very much felt a home away from home!
Spacious, clean accommodation with an extremely large, comfortable bed. Private outdoor deck was perfect for morning cuppa or afternoon 'wine time'
Owners were very helpful, friendly and really interesting people to talk to and the four-legged family members made up for the fact that I was missing my own fur babies. The rustic atmosphere may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I loved the peaceful serenity of the property. It is a work in progress and I hope I will get the chance to return one day and see how it develops.
Thank you for your hospitality.
Beautiful little part of the world. Great to use as an escape and stay put or as a stepping off point to explore the Barossa. The Barn is luxurious, comfortable, and has everything one would need (especially the tranquility). My wife and I would recommend it to anyone.
Fabulous country retreat
We really enjoyed our stay here. The barn was very comfortable. The outdoor deck was like a paradise to sit out and have a wine. Carolyn and William were great hosts. We had a dip in the pool! The bathroom and shower were very modern and clean. We loved our stay and visit to the barossa!
An Authentic Barossa Experience
An amazing getaway in a barn decked out with everything you need to enjoy your stay at the Barossa. It truly feels like you have your own private property with beautiful Barossa views. Carolyn was an excellent host & was very accommodating. We will not hesitate to re-book here again.
