About this property

Native Ozark Log Cabin Perched Above The Scenic Gasconade River Valley

"Simplify, simplify, simplify!" If you are not inspired by Henry David Thoreau this native log cabin may not be for you. It is off-the-grid. You will live very much like native Ozarkians lived 100 years ago. Of course you will have everything you need for your stay, but, it will all work differently.

There is no one else near. Seclusion in the trees!!

And, oh the location overlooking the broad valley. From the covered porch the view peers into three counties.

This is a unique accommodation -- many folks dearly love it, but it is not for everyone. But, for those adventurous folks who want to relive the feel and texture of 100 years ago, this is the place.

This original log cabin is off the grid (no electricity). Still, it is quite comfortable, but in the old way. Full cooking and heating via propane (Ok, that is a little modern) And, there is a small solar system.

As you would expect, there is a path to the outhouse (privy). And obviously there is no air-conditioning. Incorporated into the porch is a unique solar shower for bathing. The covered porch wraps two sides of the cabin and contains a porch swing, rockers, a hammock, and a table for outside eating. The sleeping loft is well lighted and contains two queen size beds. You will love the decor and the old time comfort.

Now for the setting: In the woods, secluded, perched on the side of a hill above the river valley. The view is dramatic, offering a visual distance of perhaps 20 miles. The river is a walk of perhaps 1/4 mile to a private access. Canoes, available any time to cabin guests, are located at the river.

The Gasconade River is a noted Ozark smallmouth bass river. Many other species are present as well. A sandbar in the river provides a wonderful opportunity for wading and swimming. And, there is the adventure of poking around the river, island, and slough.

Hikers will find plenty to do on the 160-acre property, as well as on a nearby Natural Area, featuring a hike to a natural bridge, a geological oddity on Clifty Creek.

This cabin attracts nature lovers and folks who desire to turn off their work-a-day worries and step backwards a century -- if just for a while.

Aunt Phoebe’s Perch
We had a great time at this charming log cabin in the woods. We loved relaxing on the porch, sitting by the fire, and listening to the birds. We plan to return as soon as possible. Thanks for a one-of-a-kind experience!

Getaway
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway away from all the business of life. The property managers were the best. Very nice, informative and accommodating. We will definitely be returning in late spring.
