About the property

Telluride Beauty & Luxury, But Outside Of Town

Come and experience luxury and raw beauty that you rarely find interwoven together in such a way. The house and guest house sit at the base of the escarpment of the Uncompahgre Plateau facing the Northern edge of the highest mountain range in the continental United States. The view is spectacular, the setting is private, cozy and comfortable. The gardens are lush and verdant; the mountains are rock and ice covered. The escarpment is dry and arid. All these varied climates come together here in Pleasant Valley at the foot of the Sneffles Range in the San Juan Mountains.

Easy driving distance to the Ouray or Orvis Hot Springs, Telluride, and shopping at the quaint town of Ridgway. Drive the Million Dollar Hwy on the way from Ouray to Silverton, or for something more exciting drive over Last Dollar Road to Telluride. Hike up the Blue Lakes trail, and if you are up for it continue on to climb Mt. Sneffles. From here it is a day's journey to Durango and/or Mesa Verde.

The view of the mountain range is out over the ranches of Ouray County, these vast ranches span thousands of acres. Below the stunning mountain backdrop, it is pastoral with cows and horses in the fields. It is a short 7 minute ride into town on county road 24 which is maintained year around. The access is easy and simple. It is a 45 minute ride to Telluride to the South or 45 minutes North to Montrose where the airport is. Built to the highest standards of finish, the home gets its name from the many hummingbirds that frequent the gardens in the shade of the Aspen trees searching for nectar from the many flowers in bloom all summer long.

Beautiful home and property

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at John's home. The view of the San Juans from the front patio is awesome. We spent every evening in the patio chairs relaxing and taking in the view of the beautiful pasture and mountains in the background. The home and guest house are spacious and comfortable. We used the patio fireplace each night when it cooled down. John and Beth were very helpful with any questions we had. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Comfortable and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

It was very nice and clean but the air conditioner didn't work and it got very warm and stuffy throughout the day. But overall very relaxing, quiet and peaceful. Took 3 teenage kids with us and they enjoyed it very much also!

Perfect mountain get away

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Humming Bird House for spring break with two other families. There was enough space for everyone to be comfortable. The house was beautifully appointed with all the bells and whistles. It was the perfect distance between Uray and Telluride to find what ever it is you wanted to do for the day! The views were breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone for your Colorado vacation.

Loved this space for our Family Vacation - can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

The Hummingbird House is a great space for family and groups. The views are gorgeous, and the deck and chairs make a wonderful evening and early morning space for relaxing and soaking up the mountain air. The hummingbirds are fun to watch and make a great symbol to remember the trip! There is room to put an RV in the driveway which allowed our family that was traveling together to stay together and made for a much better vacation for all of us! We loved the huge kitchen and enjoyed cooking on the grill as well as on the appliances in the kitchen. The regular fridge and beverage fridge were put to good use! There is a beautiful kitchenette in the guest house as well, although we did not use it. The water in the showers was very hot, and needed to be watched closely, especially for our kids. There were minimal kitchen basics (e.g., pots and pans, cooking utencils, measuring cups and spoons) and little basics stocked for use (e.g., laundry detergent, kitchen soap, toilet tissue, etc), but the Owner mentioned he would be adding more of both items soon. Our biggest struggle was the dishwasher which would run the full cycle sometimes but not everytime. We had time to run the items again, so it was fine in the end and certainly did not affect our overall experience. We LOVED this location and space and hope to return again many times in future years.

Beautiful Home with Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

When you first pull up to the gates of the Hummingbird House, it is breathtaking. The property sits with a panoramic view of the San Juan Mountains and is meticulously maintained. The rustic design of the home, the beautiful gardens and cool water features fit perfectly in the valley location. While the outside captures the perfect Colorado ranch house, the inside is the picture of luxury with high-end finishes, lighting and high-tech electronic systems throughout. Once you get past just how beautiful the inside is, you are captured again by the huge great-room views of San Juan Mountains and the 16,000 acre Double RL (Ralph Lauren) ranch. Once you head upstairs, the Master Suite is like its own oasis. In a word, this property is AMAZING and I would recommend it to anyone seeking a perfect spot to enjoy all Colorado has to offer. We spent time in Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride and Silverton. Tons of things to do for our whole family (kids are 14, 11 & 10) including horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking and waterfall exploration. The owners of the Hummingbird House were great to work with and help to make the stay absolutely fantastic.
