About the property

A private off the grid retreat on a 50 acre working farm.

Perfect for a family get together, workshop retreat, or just a group of friends. We work with other farms and local producers to provide fresh and healthy farm to table meals and other handmade products, including complimentary soaps. The house features two master bedrooms with private entrances, and two spacious lofts. All four rooms have queen or double beds with fresh linens, blankets, and fluffy towels. The west bedroom has an additional pull-out futon. You will enjoy the large bathrooms with walk-in showers. Seasonally, there are chickens, pigs, cows and always the dogs to view on your hikes through our wooded trails. We offer a large grill on the back deck with a hot tub, and a fire pit for campfires. The house has a large common area with a fully stocked open kitchen, and laundry facilities including an ironing board. The wrap around deck is perfect for bird watching or just enjoying nature. You are invited to prepare your own breakfast with our eggs, pork products, and local dairy and baked goods provided for your enjoyment. The table seats up to 12. We will also cater events using fresh local food as much as possible.

About Barb Ernst

We have been working toward providing a comfortable space for individuals or groups to come enjoy this rural setting from the onset. We provide facilities for groups, workshops and family gatherings, as well as the solo traveler. We have been in the Athens area for over 25 years, and enjoy meeting travelers, as well as getting out to see the country ourselves.

Barb Ernst purchased this house in 1995

Why Barb Ernst chose Athens

The property is at the end of a county road about 9 country miles, or about 20 minutes, from the city of Athens. We love the seclusion and quiet. The farm is a work in progress, with various projects going on all through the year. We are happy to show you what we are up to, or just leave you alone, as you wish.

What makes this house unique

this is an off grid property, where we believe in sovereign living. It's nestled in a wonderful community with adventures at your fingertips including artist studios, wineries, and great local music venues.

Wonderful place in the country

  • 5 of 5

We really loved the house. The layout, the location, the extra large showers, the wrap around porch, and the hot tub. The girls liked watching the piglets. The breakfast food provided was great. We even puchased some to bring home with us. Barb and Paul made us feel at home right from the start. We had a wonderful week and are planning to return again.

Wonderful spot for a quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

I brought the staff of a college literary magazine here for a retreat and bookbinding project, and the house was perfect! Students loved interacted with the dogs and pigs, Barb and Paul were incredibly accommodating (and excellent cooks!), and the setting was beautiful. The house is gorgeous and spacious enough for everyone. We'll definitely be back! This space is perfect for writing retreats, large family gatherings, and visits to Athens.

Peaceful family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Family from North Carolina and Michigan met at this wonderful home for a long holiday weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, from being greeted and led back to the home by the farm dogs to talking with Paul several times over the few days we spent there. Barb was very responsive to emails both before and during our stay. The house is close enough to the city that running out to grab a few things doesn't feel like a chore. The kitchen was nicely furnished, the fresh breakfast food was tasty and plentiful, and there was plenty of common space for relaxing. We will definitely consider visiting again!

a pleasurable stay

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect, with an open floor plan and 2 master bedrooms with bathrooms. My son had 2 small children one slept on the daybed in their room and the 3 yr old enjoyed his room upstairs. Our daughter also slept in the other room upstairs. The breakfast food supplied was plentiful. We rented this house for our daughters graduation from OU. This would be a perfect spot for mom's or dad's weekend.
