About Bonnie Abel

I grew up on this cattle ranch. I am a 3rd generation owner of the ranch. I love the beauty, wildlife, cattle, horses, the work, the spacious land, the feeling of serenity, the moments to just absorb the surroundings.

Two of our children and their familes live on the ranch.

Bonnie Abel purchased this farmhouse in 1992

Why Bonnie Abel chose Southern Oregon

This a great place! It is an enjoyable site to view wildlife, cattle, horses.

It is very relaxing yet close to lots of activities. You can enjoy the ranch without the work. We are in our own little valley.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I have kept the ranch very private. You are able to view the cattle grazing, the birds & wildlife, feel the peace. There are wild & "kind of" tame horses which roam the ranch. We are in our own valley on a private road. Emigrant Creek runs through the riparian area. The county road ends just after the 2nd cattle guard and when you come through our gate you are on Emigrant Creek Ranch with its wild and a little tamed beauty.

It is nature, we love it!

Rowers Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of space for 8 of us. Everyone loved the hot tub and the views. We enjoyed the remote location and easy access to the lake, wineries and downtown. Every single one of us would come back.

Very nice Property

  • 5 of 5

We came to OR for our annual family reunion and this property was the perfect fit for the 6 of us, we even were able to have all 18 for dinner on and around the back porch. Perfect photo opportunity. The beds were comfortable and everything was nice and clean. My sister-in-law is coming back to OR soon and she plans on renting this property if available. Looking forward to next year knowing this will be our choice of stay. Thank you for sharing your home.

Great place!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous week-long stay here. There were four adults and five kids age 3-10. With the double bunk beds and four bedrooms, we all had plenty of room. We appreciated the small touches throughout the house: plenty of dishes (and many kid friendly!), laundry detergent, condiments, fluffy beach towels, etc. It was furnished and decorated very tastefully and with comfort in mind. It was also very clean which was so much appreciated.

There were only a couple of reasons for four stars rather than five. (1) While we were able to safely wash dark clothes, we soon discovered that whites with well water do not fair well. They came out with huge rust colored stains, and unfortunately that load included my kids' blankets they've slept with since they were babies. We were wondering why so many of the dish towels had stains on them and then it made sense. While of course the water is fine the way it is, for those of us who are not used to well water and don't know of these things, a bit of a heads up would have saved us a headache and $ in lost items. (2) We needed to leave a day early so I called Bonnie and left a message. I never heard a response and was surprised since her other communication had been so excellent.

Overall, this is an excellent place to stay and we highly recommend it. The view is just beautiful and the privacy combined with it simply can't be beat. Also, Irvine and Roberts Winery is located about two minutes up the street. We visited just the second day it was open and it is yet another excellent reason to stay at Bonnie's property!

Needs some major cleaning!!

  • 2 of 5

Never have I stayed somewhere where the linens and towels looked worse than the rags I clean my house with. The sheets were so stained I thought they had been left on the bed dirty. The hair on then didn't halp any! I washed all the bedding and towels before I would use them. They were horribly old and thin. Very dirty and very stained. All the rooms needed some elbow grease. Baseboards, corners and fixtures were all very dusty and dirty. The bed moved when I was remaking it and the floors behind the headboard were filthy. There were dead flies and bees in the window sills. The house was nice and spaciuos. It would be a nice place with a very quiet and peaceful location if better cared for. I'd be ashamed to have guests see my home if it was as dirty as this place was !!! I would not stay there again.

Owner's Response: I am embarrassed to have such a review. To future renters: 1. All beds have 2 sets of sheets. The king & queen beds now have new sheets 2. The blankets, quilts, shams, throws are regularly washed. 3. The beach towels, bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths are all not old they are fluffy and soft. 4. All floors are dust mopped, then mopped including under the furniture and beds. 5. All baseboards, window sills, blinds, flat surfaces, lamps, pictures are swiffered with each cleaning. 6. All windows are checked for smudges with each cleaning and regularly washed inside and out. 7. The windows have new screens. 8. I have a natural pest control which comes regularly for rodents and insects. I love my vacation rental. I love it being neat and clean. You are on the ranch, in the country with daily dust and when you open the door a fly or bee wants to come in, just like at home. Because you are on the ranch you can usually view turkeys, hawks, osprey, buzzards, quail, crows, killdeer, rabbits, squirrels, deer, cows and horses grazing. I love the ranch and I am ok sharing this part of it with you. Bonnie Abel

House and Location Beautiful

  • 3 of 5

The house was nicely set up and in a beautiful location. Lots of wildlife around - deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, hawks - but the hot tub was unusable. We were there 2 nights and they worked on it constantly, but it still did not work. We rented this house because of the hot tub, and the owner gave us a partial refund which was very nice. It is probably working by now, but we were very disappointed. The location would be hard to match in the Ashland area for wildlife and beauty. When I called the owner she was very nice and tried very hard to get things right concerning the tub.
