About the property

Fireplace, Covered Patio, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathroom, Garden in huge Natural Park,

Are you ready? Well! With a short and pleasant walk around the property you will see and you will experience unique and unforgettable panoramas, silhouetted in a horizon at 360 °, with visibility extended to over 80 km on 4 regions of Italy: Umbria , Latium, Tuscany and Marche and, only to name a few examples: from Città della Pieve to the Sibillinii Mountains, from Perugia to Mount Cetona, from Trasimeno Lake to Assisi and Mount Terminillo, passing through Cortona, Chiusi and its lake, Montepulciano, Castiglione del Lago and much more.

Miralaghi extendes between Umbria and Tuscany, and not far from Latium either, on a lovely hill, in an ideal position for a lot of trips, right in the centre of Italy, only 15 km from the A1 motorway, at an altitude that goes from 450 to 650 meters above sea level, with an enviable climate, both in winter and in summer.

Born as an hunting lodge, In 750 acres of amazing nature, between forest, olives plants, lakes, woods, and stunning views, our spacious home comfortably welcomes 6+2 people in four bedrooms with 3 modern bathrooms with tub and shower.

Ideal for a large family or two smaller families traveling together. Villa Miralaghi is situated on the slopes of a hill, sunny but shaded by tree at 500mt above the sea level looking to the hills around.

The home is an ideal place for lovers of relax and nature as well as the visit of the sorroundings.

From the private covered car park ( there is an area for the washing machine and the wood) you reach the entrance and the hall, on the right a short corridor to the kitchen fully equipped with a huge refrigerator and a very big freezer, micro-waves, dishwasher, oven, with a fireplace and table and chairs for the breakfast ; from the hall you enter to the central great room with a dining area with a round dining table for 8-9 and a living area with 3 big sofas a huge fireplace with benches inside in the traditional Umbrian manner., TV-SAT, mini HI-FI, electric Keyboard.

The dining room has access to a covered veranda facing the hills around through the trees, with an outside dining area and barbecue and sitting area; to the right of the sitting room there two double bedrooms with bathrooms in suite facing onto the garden and the hill, to the left of the dining room, the billiard room with two beds that share the bathroom with shower with the last double (twins) bedroom facing the hills beside and the field.

Inside it has all comforts: heating, clean linen every week, mosquito nets at the windows, WI-FI, a wide choice of books, chess, games, brochures, my personal suggestions , DVD, CD, etc.

From the veranda you can go into the garden and the private heated pool. There are hammock, sun-beds and tea tables. The garden gets the sun early to late in the evening, but there are areas shaded by the trees.

At night, don’t miss the spectacular view of the dark sky crowded with stars.

I do a weekly extra-virgin lesson testing; astrophisic, cooking, pottery classes are available.

RELAX in your own swimming pool or take a soothing bathe in Summer or in Winter in the mini pool SPA Jacuzzi

TREKKING AND CYCLING: enjoy Miralaghi with its wonderful excursions on foot or mountain bike, close to unspoiled nature dense of woodlands full of wildlife; inside there is a reported path for mountains bikes crossing breath-taking landscapes.

FISH: fish at our fishing pond (No-kill fish); there are perch, pike, carp, but they were also caught eels and crayfish.

PICNIC or take a picnic in the forest near the romantic lake.

FITNESS or do, as Rambo, the fitness trail in the forest (17 stops, the children like it a lot) or simply walk along it.

BIRD WATCHING: climb on the two birds watching.

PLAYGROUND : let your children to go to the play-ground. Play boules at the boules field, play ping-pong and soccer games together.

Tired? Relax in the sun, play chess under the oak, admiring the wonderful sunset and the never- ending view around you, eat out and try the local gourmet specialities, not forgetting our olive oil.

NATURE: there are still many species of wild animals, which I try to protect in every way: foxes, roe deer, hedgehogs, porcupines, wild boars, hares, and squirrels near Villa Miralaghi fire-flies in June, July. A couple of buzzards and a hawks often circle above us. A family of barn owls is often seen at night. Robin, jay, hoopoe, green-peak are usual visitors. Pheasants and partridges are often set free here.

At the begin of spring there are the violets, in Italy we do a delicious blue candy with the violets, a lot of wild flowers during the spring, the sun-flowers in summer; In september in the forest you encounters carpets of cyclamens. At the end of September until the beginning of November you can find many species of mushrooms- books explaining them are at home -.If you like a different experience come the first week-end of November when we start to collect the olives.

VISITS: Every week I invite my guests to introduce them at the masterpieces of the sorroundings: Paciano a faboulous middleage small fortified village, Panicale a wonderful renaissance village, Chiusi the old etruscan capital of King Porsenna with the etrusca tombs to visit and the underground town, Montepulciano where is the most beautiful cellar of the world (and the wine, of course), the playgroung of Twilight II, Cortona (under Tuscany sun) the one I like more with a wonderful museum with the oldest lamp in the world (IV cent. BC), Castiglione del Lago on the Trasimeno Lake with the fortress done by Federico II to reach through the walls of the town, his nice weekly market..., The Maggiore island in the lake to reach by ferry from where admire the sunset on the lake. Sarteano where a new etruscan- roman tomb has been recently discovered, Cetona with the preistorical caves, San Casciano or Bagni San Filippo where to go to take a hot bathe during the winter....Perugia with the stunning Rocca Paolina marvellous and unknown.

Once a week I do a lesson- testing on extra virgin olive oil.

There is still much to see: in Arezzo there is a nice antiquity market the first Sunday of every month, Siena of course, Assisi the town of San Francis with the two churches one up the other , , ,Gubbio .

And staying more than one week don't miss Le Marmore falls the highest falls in Europe and Frasassi caves the most beautiful caves where I've never been in all my life.

If you want to go by train from Chiusi, you can travel comfortable to either Rome or Florence in about one hour.

About Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini

Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini’s grandfather, returning from Africa, after World War II, was looking for a property near Rome and finding this oasis of peace and beauty bought the property as it reminded him of the wide open spaces of Africa.

One will not find the African savannah but hundreds of kilometres of nature dressed with architecture and culture.

Maria Luisa loves this place, which lies between two breathtaking regions : Tuscany and Umbria, and adores sharing these beautiful lands with her guests.

Because of its proximity to Rome and Florence Miralaghi is the perfect place to live and work.

Maria Luisa lives on the estate all year long in a another old country house. It is always a pleasure for her to invite her guests for evening drinks.

Every so often she does private horse-rides inside the estate with gorgeous Arab horses from the nearby riding-school.

In the evenings she takes delight in sitting on the stair of her home while chatting with her sons and admiring the star studded sky.

You can find any information you might require about Miralaghi on Facebook page; you should look for the one with Maria Luisa’s photo.

Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini purchased this villa in 1957

Why Maria Luisa Pisa Simonini chose Città della Pieve

If you are coming to Miralaghi after a midnight outing you will see a sparkling sky which will seem to embrace you while there is silence and tranquillity all around you.

Live these astonishing moments and keep sleep at bay while in the distance the bark of a dog which captures your ears is barely audible. These are magic moments which will come to your mind once you are back home

The place is unique, the air clean and fills you with energy, and the silence is only broken by the songs of birds.

A gentle breeze always blows in summer during the day and it is never too hot at night as temperature falls to between 18 and 20 degrees.

Spend the day in total relaxation at our heated swimming pools, in the garden watching hawks flying playfully in the wind or doing activities such as fishing in the fish pond, fitness trails in the forest or hiking along the 20 kilometers scenic paths.

This area also has many theatres as well as cinemas while during summer cultural, historical, traditional events, festivals, music concerts, parades etc. are recurrently held.

What makes this villa unique

As we are at 500 on the sea level a gentle breeze refreches the air in the day; at night the temperature falls at 18-20° centigrades.

In winter the valley is foggy and cold, however, most times Miralaghi has a temperature higher by about 3 to 7 degrees and you can see the hills around as an archipelago in a sea of clouds.

The opposite in summer time: lower than the valley from 3 to 8 degrees.

If you come during winter you can go to spend the day at the Spa or in the evening to the natural thermal springs in San Casciano, Chianciano or Bagni San Filippo or simply some hours in our Jacuzzi.

You can arrive from two directions Tuscany or Umbria.

Take the train from Rome or Florence and you will reach us in about one hour.

As around 40% of the architectural beauty of Italy is found in these areas you should visit the nearby towns such as Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza ( UNESCO inheritage of humanity, Chiusi, (Tuscany), Città della Pieve, Assisi (the town of Saint Francis), Perugia etc.

Go for a night cap to the close-by village of Paciano built in the Middle Ages or the beautiful Renaissance village of Panicale.

And not but not least, if you are fashionable, you can buy the most beautiful cashmere garments produced locally and you can pay for them at factory prices... and much more …just ask Mausi.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came here; i think we were the first after the winter break.

We enjoyed this wonderful villa, which was far too big for us... but we liked it a lot.

The terrace, the garden, the fire-place and the wonderful surrounding. We loved the tranquility, the nature and the bright stars at night.

Of course we visited the nearby sights but were always glad to be back again in MIRALAGHI.

Thanks al lot for your hospitality, your patience and your advice.

We are glad that we got to know this extraordinary place!

Get away from it all at Villa Miralghi

  • 5 of 5

We have just completed a truly wonderful two weeks at Villa Miralghi.

This is a great location if you want some peace and tranquility in an incredibly natural and unspoilt environment. Villa Miralaghi is nestled on the side of a hill, in pine and oak woodland and is cool and pleasant even in the high summer. The property is set in a large country estate with many trails, paths and lakes. You are more likely to see wild boar and deer here than people!

The house itself is charming and very spacious for either a large family or two smaller ones. It has all the amenities you need and there are communal facilities like children's playground, hot tub and table tennis nearby. The main feature for our family was the heated pool which our children used everyday. It was a good temperature, private and has natural shade if the sun is really hot.

This was a great location to base ourselves and saw Citta Della Pieve, Castiglione Del Lago, Cortona, Montepulciano and Pienza. We even drove up to Florence.

I would recommend this to family and friends and would stay here again.

Great place to relax and unwind

  • 4 of 5

Had a great family break which included 3 generations of family members. This rustic villa has a lot of charm. Ideal if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax in a natural enviorment.

Lots of places to visit within a reasonable drive allowing to soak up the countryside.

Ideal retreat

  • 4 of 5

The property is certainly big enough but could do with some TLC in places, this does not affect your stay. The pool is lovely and well maintained it is very easy to sit and relax there all day. There is a lovely trail or two around the grounds with splendid views. Maria is very knowledgeable on the area and will give you any advice if you wish to explore.

Owner's Response: Dear Claire, Thank you for your lovely words; about the TLC you are perfectly right. But in this year so dry I was really scared not to be able to ensure the water to all the people, the 2 swimming pools and the plants. ( our roses are like in a catalogue when flourished). They suffer also because our maintainer and gardener this year could not ensure his presence. I thank you for your kind cooperation. Incredibly in meantime the well and the source of the villa resumed giving water. Miracles of a generous nature even in such a great drought. There are several trails, but those indicated are 3 :the "discovery trail", "the relax path" ( along the fitness trail) and the "Panorama route". I hope to see you again, you are a lovely family. :-)

Unique and charming country estate

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days in MIralaghi in July and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house has style and a sense of grandeur but is also comfortable and relaxed and nestles in the heart of a large private estate. How unique to be able to walk for miles and see wildlife such as red squirrels and wild boar.

The estate abuts the charming mediaeval town of Paciano, with its pristine narrow streets, perfectly restored buildings and lovely restaurant, La Loggetta.Maria was kind and attentive from the start and it was obvious that her guests' enjoyment was of utmost importance to her.

We would highly recommend MIralaghi and plan to return.

Owner's Response: Dear R. thanks for the nice words. It seems to me that you have picked up the essence of our country estate: the rarity, by now, to be really in nature but also a few steps away from "civilization", otherwise a delightful medieval village boasting not 1 but 4 great restaurants. Next time you will have more time to find them ;-) . See you in Miralaghi .

Excellent location to explore Umbria and Tuscany.

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent holiday staying at Miralghi. There is a lot to do and explore over all of the land - walk, a fitness trail, views across to Lake Trasimeno or Perugia. Situated on a hill, the walking gets you very fit !

The villa itself is very spacious and we made good use of the pool and the garden, playing football, badminton, table tennis. In the evenings my teenage sons would challenge me to games of pool on the billiard table.

We also managed to get out and see many sights. Particular highlights were Orvieto, Assisi and Marmore Falls and evening meals in Castiglione Del Lago. Also recommended is spending some time on the lake, we enjoyed a ferry trip across to the main island.

Overall and to summarise - Marlaghi is a special place. As a family we created many memories. The owner, Mausie is an excellent host and was able to provide a lot of information about the local area and the land itself. I will always remember the amazing sunsets witnessed from the top of the hill, and the dark skies full of stars.

18 Km from the highway: Ideal center for a lot of excursions in Umbria and Tuscany and Latium.

In the immediate vicinity, I advise a lovely medieval village: Paciano, 3 Km, and a beautiful Renaissance village: Panicale, 7 Km.

During your walking inside the property you can see all around you: Chiusi at 10 Km, Città della Pieve 14 Km, Castiglione del Lago at 12 Km, Trasimeno Lake 12 Km and Chiusi Lake 10Km , Montepulciano 25 Km, Cortona (Under The Tuscany Sun) at 30 Km, Perugia at 35 Km, Assisi (San Francis town) 50 Km.

Travel on Trasimeno Lake to the fisherman’s isle where you can spend a great afternoon.

If you would like to discover ' Il Perugino' go to Città Della Pieve to Santa Maria de I Bianchi is the most beautiful fresco of him: "The nativity".

Chiusi, the ancient city of King Porsenna, is a city of Etruscan origin. you can visit the interesting archeological museum and the system of tunnel underground the towns used to defense the town.

The tombs, which are very interesting, are visible nearby.

Not far is Montepulciano; the most beautiful Renaissance town in Italy. I advise you to go to the Avignonesi cellars to taste the fine wines and the Redi cellars the most beautiful in the world for Newsweek.

Further away is Pienza the first small Italian city built according to a regular plan. The "ideal town" in the 17th century and one of the “Treasure of the humanity” for the UNESCO.To arrive in Pienza follow the indication to Montichielli, NOT to Pienza.

I ensure you a beautiful charming trip.

On the other part of Lake Trasimeno is Cortona- under Tuscany Sun- At the museum of The Etruscan Academy there is the famous Etruscan lamp, the oldest in the world. There is also a magnificent “Announcement” of Beato Angelico and paintings of Luca Signorello.

You must visit in Perugia the “Rocca Paolina”, a curious item: A barbican built on 200 houses.

Equidistant is Orvieto; the Cathedral is stupendous The Well an emotion for adults and children. And recently they opened the “underground town”.

There is still much to see: Arezzo, Siena, Assisi (The town of San Francis with the two churches one up the other ) Gubbio ....

And staying more then one week don't miss the Marmore falls (they are opened all day long only saturday and sunday), the highest falls in Europe and Frasassi caves the most beautiful caves I've been in all my life.

If you want to go by train from Chiusi, you can travel comfortable to either Rome or Florence in about one hour, and still return in the same day.
