Overview

About the property

Expansive Views Of The Coast, Own Bay Across The Road, Fast WiFi

Relax and recharge in this coastal property with stunning views over the popular East Coast of NZ. The quiet and relatively remote location will appeal to people who want to get away from their busy lifestyles and enjoy the peace this place offers.

This is the ideal space to relax and unwind. The house is set up on a hill overlooking the beautiful East Coast of Northland. The house is 250sqm with 3 double bedrooms with 1 x King Bed and 2 x Queen beds. The upstairs consists of a master bedroom with an ensuite, open plan kitchen/living room and garage. The downstairs consists of 2 x bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge and bathroom with bath and shower. The laundry is in the garage. There is also a queen sized slat bed sofa bed available upstairs. Both levels have large decks to enjoy the views and sun. Double glazed windows throughout for warmth and quiet. There is also an outside shower.

The views are stunning from all of the bedrooms and lounges both upstairs and downstairs.

Guests have access to a gas BBQ, kayaks, gym equipment including a spin cycle, free weights/bench and also 2 new mountain bikes. There is also an outside shower. There are also 'Coast' bean bags (outdoor furniture) that can be used as well as a 6 seater outdoor table and chair set. Sky TV (cable TV) is provided with movie and sports package are added. There is also Apple TV and Netflix.

Someone will be there to let you in and make sure everything is okay for you. Someone will also help lock up the place upon your departure.

Neighbours are few and far between. The area is extremely quiet and traffic volume is very low. There are a number of locations nearby to launch a boat. There are some great fishing spots on and off the water. Elliots Bay (5-10 walk) hosts surfing competitions and is a popular surf beach for locals. Taupiri Bay (5 min walk) is one of the safest swim beaches in the North. Little Taupiri Bay (across the road) is your own private little bay (although the locals sometimes enjoy it as well). We regularly see dolphins, Humpback Whales and Orca's from the deck of our house!

You will need a car. The nearest shopping centre is Russell which is 25kms away. There are some beautiful walks in the area including Cape Brett and along Elliots Bay (and the joining bays).

The wireless internet is relatively quick and very reliable. It is fast enough to easily stream videos, download/upload large files, send/receive emails, (website hidden) etc. The house is fully alarmed and there is 'off site' monitoring via both internal and external cameras. Cellphone reception depends on your provider (some have better reception than others) but there is a landline provided with free local calls.

***For those guests staying after August 1, 2016 you will get to enjoy our new Spa (Hot Tub). We now have a Hot Springs Aria Spa Pool installed. This 5 person spa pool is top of the line and has been voted the best Spa Pool (Internationally) by Consumer Digest on more than one occasion. Sit back and make the most of the 35 jets this spa has to offer plus enjoy the sea views and the stars at night. A luxury added just to ensure you really do get to relax at Little Taupiri, Stunning Views!***

"This is a seriously amazing house in a fantastic location. The house is fitted to a very high standard, with lots space for inside living. The view is top notch and it's about two minutes walk down the drive way to the beach. It is seriously good value. Unreservedly recommended" (Stuart, Jan 2016)

"Stunning views" doesn't quite capture how truly amazing the views are from this house! They are unlike anywhere I have stayed before. The house feels very private, and it was a real pleasure to have no phone reception! There is a landline and the wifi was excellent. The nearby beaches are beautiful and deserted, we enjoyed snorkelling and spearfishing just across the road. I would absolutely recommend a stay and we will be back most definitely'!! (Sally, November 2015)

"WOW... pretty much sums it up!! What a warm and welcoming house from the moment you step inside. The views are to die for! Watching the sun rise over the water from your bed, to seeing the sun set while laying on comfy couches... pure bliss! The house was well equipped with the latest furnishings and it truly was a home away from home. Huge property, with the added bonus of having your own private beach literally across the road. I would highly recommend this property". (Sept 2015)

Recent Review (from the other site) by Australian family who stayed July 2015 - "This is a truly beautiful part of the world! We had such a lovely month in Bill's house that it is hard to describe how stunning the location and how sleek and modern the house is. If you are after a wonderfully relaxing holiday, then this is the place for you.

The house is perched on a hill overlooking Little Taupiri Bay (a beautiful little beach with clear greeny-blue waters). It is huge and very clean with two full kitchens equipped with gorgeous Miele appliances, three bedrooms each with a queen bed (or bigger) and AMAZING water views, two bathrooms, three toilets, two lounge rooms with super comfy lounge suites, BBQ, two enormous decks to enjoy the views and a gym with a bench press, free weights, bikes and kayaks. And as if that isn't enough, for an extra bit of luxury there is underfloor heating in the bathrooms and kitchen!

Bill was always quick to respond before and during our stay. He had prepared a very thorough property and area guide and was kind enough to arrange addition internet data for us.

We were met by the local property manager Kelly who gave us a tour and explained the featured of the accommodation. Bill was also provided muesli, milk, bread, yoghurt, fruit and some delicious local chocolate truffles which were unexpected but much appreciated as this meant we could settle in before we had to go into Russell (20min drive) for groceries.

Russell is a lovely town and has everything you could need: yep groceries, a pharmacy, medical centre, book store and multiple cafés and restaurants. Also Countdown will deliver non perishable items so it is super easy to prepare meals and freeze them in the big standalone freezer so you only have to go into Russell once or twice a week for meat and veggies.

Kelly kindly invited us to attend the parent run play centre which operates during the week. This was fantastic as it afford our daughter the opportunity to interact with other children and to play with lots of different toys.

We had such a lovely time that we didn't want to leave. Thank you Bill, for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home. We hope to visit again in the future."

Another review (from the other site) by American couple who stayed in March 2015 - "Bill is an absolutely fantastic host of an amazing property. Communication was easy and quick. The home is stunning, and it's hard to capture just how amazing the view is. The info packet Bill put together was great and we did many of the activities; Action World was a hit with the whole family! If you're looking for a peace and serenity and a good place to recharge your soul, this is the place for you. The home has the best internet speed and reliability of any of the 20 places we've stayed at in New Zealand. Cell phone reception is poor, but not having your phone ring when you're in a place like this is a good thing. We'd easily could have stayed another week or two and wish we had!"

Review from the other site

"I loved staying here, the place is two stories and perfectly appointed. There is so much room and everything has been thought of to make your stay enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, and he responds quickly to emails. For the price per night, I have never had better value for money, and I am well travelled". (Amanda, September 2015)

About Bill and Annette Garnett

My wife and I love traveling and have enjoyed staying at people's homes throughout the world. We want people to enjoy staying at our home as much as we enjoyed staying at theirs.

Why Bill and Annette Garnett chose Bay of Islands

This is our favorite part of New Zealand. The Bay of Islands and surrounding areas are simply beautiful. Some of the most beautiful beaches and views in the world.

What makes this house unique

The view at our property cannot be captured in photos. Views are unrestricted and it literally feels like you are almost over the water.

Should you wish to enjoy some of the local attractions Russell is one of the top tourist destinations in the North. It takes 30 minutes to drive to Russell. It is a quaint township with a lot of history. It was the country’s first sea port, its first European settlement and New Zealand’s first capital in nearby Okiato. The streets retain their original layout and names from 1843.

Book a tour or cruise through the Booking Office at Russell’s Information Centre (located at end of Russell wharf or the GreatSights office on corner of Cass Street and The Strand). Both offer a wide variety of options. The Hole in the Rock cruise is highly recommended.

Flagstaff Hill – A walking track that takes you up to one of NZ’s most iconic historic sites – Me Maiki/Flagstaff Hill. From the top, it offers 360 degree views of the Bay of Islands. You may come across the endangered North Island Weka, which has been reintroduced to the Russell Peninsula by the Russell Landcare Trust. You can drive or walk the 2.5 km loop (takes 30 mins). The walking track is marked, mostly well-formed, with some steep sections. It is suitable for people with low to moderate fitness and abilities. Suitable walking shoes required.

Nearby, Long Beach is a nice place for a swim. It is located to the east of Russell township. It is a 5 minute drive, or 20 minute walk from the main street. A road runs along the shoreline and you can park your car at any point along the beach. It is a lovely spot to have a picnic or to eat your fish 'n’ chips.

Russell offers a regular passenger ferry service, every 30 minutes, across to Paihia wharf. Tickets can be purchased on board or through the Fullers GreatSights booking office. Crossings take approximately 15 minutes.

There are lots of attractions in Paihia. Paragliding, helicopter rides, searching for shells, markets, kayaking, jet skiing, tourist shops galore with an amazing range of souvenirs. Even the chemist/pharmacy is worth a visit; it’s well stocked and the staff are keen to share their “local knowledge”.

Action World, Paihia : There’s lots of activities for the whole family. There’s a trampoline, mini golf, water slide, climbing wall, trapeze and the X-treme Slide amongst other features that are for all ages and abilities. They also have two miniature ponies, two goats and –depending on the season – ducks in the duck pond.

Possibly some of the very best panoramic sea-views in New Zealand

This modern architecturally designed home is beautifully appointed and comfortably furnished. Every convenience is thought through and provided. Clearly the owners enjoy the finer things in life and are very generous in their willingness to share. Thank you!
