An Amazingly gorgeous property!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you step through the doors the interior of the home is simply elegant. You lack for nothing. I cannot say enough about the basement game room, it is a dream for a kid and the kid at heart. It was unbelievable. Everyone had so much fun playing childhood games like pac man and new ones such as giant jenga. The pools is gorgeous and the dock is large enough to accommodate our three boats. The groundskeeper Daniel was so helpful. I had a question about the gas grill and he was right on the spot. The facilities manager Mary Ann was also available and prompt. She made us feel right at home. Thank you for such a beautiful rental property that suited our every need. The owner Andy, knows what it takes for an enjoyable vacation and how to make you happy! We will definitely be back!

3 Day Weekend Birthday Get Away

  • 5 of 5

I hosted a large dinner party at the castle for my birthday. The property is situated on a beautiful lake and equipped with a great game room and jacuzzi. It was easily able to accommodate all of my guests, and the property manager was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend the castle to any of my friends.

This Rental Can't Be Beat

  • 5 of 5

We rented this beautiful Castle for our yearly family reunion. I was a little worried at first about the sleeping arrangements because we were a party of 16 and the web site said sleeps 14. There were 5 bedrooms that slept 10 people which the pictures on the web site had shown and the two largest bedrooms had living room areas with two queen sleeper sofas that slept four more people. The sleeper sofas were memory foam and were super comfortable. The last couple slept on a blow up mattress in the gym which was perfect for them. The gym had drapes on the windows and a door that closes so it was just like having an extra bedroom to use. There was also a full bathroom in the hallway right outside the gym that worked perfect for them. The Castle was amazing, the living room on the main level had at least a 30 foot high ceiling and a big 75 percent inch tv over the fireplace which made watching movies great. The kitchen had a huge stainless steel refrigerator and stainless steel dishwasher and a big island in the middle which made preparing meals for our large group easy. Also Great Lake views and pool views from the kitchen. The dining room was off the kitchen which also had Great Lake views and high ceilings. The best part of the house has to be the game room though. I would say that whenever we were indoors the majority of us were in the game room area. I haven't seen a commercial game room this good. There was something for everybody to enjoy. When we weren't on the boat we all hung out at the pool working on our tans. The pool water was crystal clear and the perfect temperature. The manager said that the pool wasn't heated but if it was hot outside the pool would usually be hot. We had two boats at the dock and we went water skiing everyday and tubing on this beautiful lake. The managers were great and said if we ever needed them, you could reach them 24/7. The house was well maintained and very clean. Overall my impression of this rental was that it can't be beat. The castle and the location kept all of us completely entertained for a week. Everyone agreed that we should just rent the Castle every year for our family reunions. We will be back next year.

Our family has rented on Smith Mountain Lake for the last 10 years and it has always been the top end properties that we have rented. But this property is far ahead of the competition. First off it is the only French Chateau Castle on the Lake with a large private pool and its surrounded by water on 3 sides. The views you wake up to every morning are breathtaking. The Castle seemed super clean and sterilized, hats off to the cleaning crew. I do have a warning though for future guests. If you want to spend time with your kids don't let them go to the bottom floor game room, it is likely that you won't see them again until the end of the trip. The game room is unbelievable for a private residence, definitely the best on the lake.We spent the days on the boat and swimming off the private dock in a private cove. In the early evening we would barbecue by the pool and swim. At night we would watch movies on the big screen or play in the game room until late at night. The Castle was huge and everyone had their own space if they needed it. As big as it was the floor plan was great and made it feel very cozy and comfortable for all of us.Thank you for your hospitality and we will be back next year.

The property is very picturesque and in a lovely setting. It has all the accomodations for an enjoy

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 13 thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of room for everyone and we never felt crowded. The house is in great shape and everyone really enjoyed the entertainment rooms. We rented a boat for the week and the dock at the house made it handy for repeated trips on the lake. The pool came in handy as well with the hot days we had during our week. All of the members of our group, including adults and children, gave this trip a big thumbs up.

Beautiful property and home .....Love it or List it.

  • 4 of 5

Our family recently enjoyed a full week at SML boating and swimming. Our overall impression is that the home has fallen into disrepair a bit at a time. While the kitchen appliances such as refrigerator and dishwasher were modern and new, other important functions of the home were on the downside such as the top floor A/C zone. This was mentioned to us by the property manager and we discussed how to best manage etc... Overall though it just seems a shame that such a beautiful vacation property is not being maintained or kept repaired. Other major items of concern were the outside pool deck. A major hole was under one of the patio tables and naturally we were all careful to not step there but still!! And there was another place with a very weak board and a smaller hole....not safe!! These are safety issues and not acceptable and makes the owner very liable for accidents!

Smaller items of poor maintenance included the swing by the lake.....the tree branches were over grown and made it uncomfortable to even sit there.....minor but still.... why not trimmed for so long? Much of the landscaping has been sadly neglected which causes one to ponder ......

On a positive note, the library room had been enhanced with 4 very new recliner chairs and lots of games..... this was quite a hit with the young adults.

Also, a suggestion is to have the lower boat dock repaired as well since there was a very weak soggy board area. And extend the railing all the way down the stairs some day...nice feature.

My mother in law was in the upstairs bedroom with the crazy wallpaper in bathroom. She suggested a reading chair, and a lamp. She was a real trooper total that room! LOL.

Also, have property manager have all lightbulbs replaced prior to each new renter. Many lightbulbs were out. Minor but still the owner should have a SUPPLY OF LIGHTBULBS OR LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE THEY ARE IN THE HOME. THANKS.

I would also put on your website all the kitchen supplies that are available. Most VRBO rentals in our experience do this. Maybe I overlooked it on the website?

Despite the safety concern of deck, swing and landscaping , poor A/C control on 3rd floor, the home is beautiful and we ALL had a great vacation. Our family are truly thankful for a lovely week in your home and wish you the best ,

Owner's Response: Hi Kim. Thank you for being our guest, and I'm delighted that you and your family had a great time. We do appreciate all of your feedback, good or bad, as it helps us to improve on any issues, especially the issues that we were not aware of. The upstairs AC unit was just replaced a week before your stay and was the same size as the original AC that had been working great for the last 20 years. All of the heat rises to the third floor and I think that during your stay the temperature outside averaged between 90 and 100 degrees and was very humid. We find that if you keep all the doors closed, especially the garage door, the third floor stays quite pleasant. We have tested it, and when it's 100 degrees outside, with all the doors closed, the temperature will hold right around 70 degrees, which we find acceptable. The second issue was the decking and we have since replaced the deck boards on the dock that we were not aware of before, and fixed the hole in the deck under the table. We were aware of the antique swing that's been on the property for 20 years and, sadly, it is not able to be fixed. I wanted to remove it but my girlfriend thought it was cute and charming, so it remains. You mentioned the wall paper in the upstairs bedroom. Wall paper is a personal thing. Some of our guests like it and some don't. For me, personally, it doesn't bother me but I can understand why some might not like it. It is a bit busy. I prefer bathrooms to be painted. We will put that on our to do list to paint that bathroom when the season is over. The idea of putting a reading chair and a lamp in that top bedroom is a good idea. Thanks! As far as the light bulbs go, there are over 200 light bulbs in the house and we do our best to change them as soon as they go out. We really don't want to trouble our guests to change them. A quick call to either of our property managers would result in a replaced bulb. We have recently started replacing the bad bulbs with LED bulbs which are supposed to last for a few years. Hopefully, that will solve that problem. We do list the kitchen supplies on the website but you may be referring to more of an itemized list (number of plates, number of cups, etc.). The last thing you mentioned was the landscaping. Our Gardener comes every week, and we thought he was doing a pretty good job. We will let him know to trim the tree by the swing. Thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you and your family back next summer. Andy
