Secluded mountainside villa, southern balcony, ocean views, private pool
About Stephen Alvey
After many years of working and raising kids, and now welcoming grand kids, I decided that it was time to finally make the move to Canada's beautiful Gulf Islands.
Stephen Alvey purchased this Villa in 2014
Why Stephen Alvey chose Pender Island
When I climbed the winding driveway through the forest to arrive at SunRaven, it was dusk - still and silent - and the air was fresh; almost instantly I decided that this was where we wanted to be. I'd found a secluded mountainside property, magical in its rugged natural setting with breath-taking views over the Gulf Island waters. SunRaven has now been extensively renovated, and we love waking up here every day!
What makes this Villa unique
SunRaven is a beautiful home in a magical setting. After many years living a busy city life, SunRaven is our refuge, restful, natural - the hustle and bustle is left behind. SunRaven is full of possibility and creativity; you can hear the 'music' in the bird song and the wind in the trees, see 'art' in the ever-changing ocean view, the ravens circling over head and the Milky Way at night. SunRaven is a gathering place: we love to host friends and family here and there's plenty of room for everyone; when it's time to depart, visitors don't want to leave!

Great place to say, convenient location, beautiful views, house was really well maintained. Appreciated the amazing art collection. Host was very friendly and easy to communicate with
Our family loved staying at Steve's gorgeous home. It was not only extremely comfortable for the 4 of us, but the kitchen was fantastic for cooking up our Thanksgiving dinner! The location was also unbeatable being so close to the ferry terminal. I would highly reccommend his home for your next stay!
First stay on Pender Island
Our stay at SunRaven was a delightful experience. The house and location exceeded my expectations! Our hosts Steve and Janet were welcoming and efficient. The house was beautifully decorated with a wide selection of quirky artwork. The location afforded beautiful views of the ocean and complete privacy. An very enjoyable experience . I highly recommend SunRaven!
Wonderful home on Pender Island
Our family of 5 stayed at SunRaven for a week. The house was artfully decorated with 180 degree views of the other Gulf Islands. The pool was a warm 82degrees and big enough for us all to enjoy. The kitchen was fully stocked with state of the art appliances and anything you could ever need to cook with. Steve was a gracious host and always close by if we needed anything. We have stayed on Pender previously but Steve’s house was the best yet. We highly recommend SunRaven.
House has everything you need, the pool is great. Steve lives in the basement suite so he is there is if you need anything or have questions.
Parking is tough at the home, but manageable.
Excellent family vacation rental
My family had a fabulous time renting Steve’s house. The pool and views were the highlight for us. Super nice accommodations with a gourmet fully stocked kitchen, comfortable seating and beautiful artwork to admire. The kids also really liked the loft. Steve was a great host.
Pender Island enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate (known as the “Hawaii of Canada”) and features open farmland, rolling forested hills, several lakes and small mountains, as well as many coves and beaches. Two beaches very near to SunRaven are sandy and child friendly.
Pender is a safe, family-oriented community of people committed to a healthy lifestyle while preserving the environment. Whether arriving on Pender by boat across the Salish Sea, float plane, car, bicycle, or on foot, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Known as the “friendly islands”, locals will offer you a ride at one of the many car stops or give you directions to one of the great places to eat or stay while visiting the islands.
Pender Island is a popular destination for cycling, fishing, hiking, boating, sailing, scuba diving and other outdoor pursuits. The island also boasts a 9-hole golf course and a 27-hole disc golf course in the forest. Pender Island has numerous art galleries, shops, and restaurants and hosts a variety of local events throughout the year, including the Pender Island Fall Fair and the Lantern Festival. On Saturday mornings during the summer, the Pender Island Farmer’s Market at the Community Hall offers local produce and handcrafts, as well as entertainment.
Pender Island is home to many artists and craftspeople who operate art galleries, craft shops, and studios. Painting, photography, jewelry, glassware, pottery, wearable art and antiques are just some of the many and varied art forms. Many artists have studio hours where you can make personal visits. Some artists also attend the Saturday Farmers Market and there is also an artisan cooperative – the Red Tree Gallery.
Pender is a choice weekend and year round holiday destination. Summer is generally a busy time, while the island pace slows down considerably during the winter months. Spring and fall are pleasant times of the year, with fewer tourists and mild weather.
Come for a day, a week or a lifetime!
