Aloha and welcome to our home!

We call our Hawaiian home "Pua Kai Lani", which means "Heavenly Ocean Flower" in the Hawaiian language, an apropos name for our garden location (Flower = Pua), it's proximity to the Sea (Kai), and the comfort and luxury of our Heavenly (Lani) villa. E Komo Mai, Pua Kai Lani!

Kolea 16A is in a quiet corner of Kolea which is convenient to everything - the Beach Club, the beach, the Kings and Queens shops, and everything Waikoloa has to offer. Kolea is an exclusive gated community and our villa has been transformed into a luxury Hawaiian retreat with amenities superior to most five star hotels and better appointed than most vacation rentals in the area. Whether it be the well furnished rooms, the unique artwork, the comfortable beds, the gourmet kitchen, the walk out lanai, our concern for your health, and more, we try to leave no grain of sand unturned.

Our quiet, garden-level 3BR/2BA home is a luxurious, private, exotic 1554 sq. ft. living space. 16A is end unit, which means lots of windows and light, unlike many of the interior 2BR units. The villa is surrounded by lush vegetation and the large lanai spills out onto a grassy lawn which is perfect for playing kids or morning yoga with the mongoose! Perfect for couples traveling together or families with kids of all ages, our villa offers lots of space and flexibility!

We pride ourselves in offering superior customer service, including the small but important details for you, our guest:

Upon your arrival, we will have a fruit bowl and welcome gift basket waiting. We've sourced some of our favorite Hawaiian made snacks and beverages so that you can sample some of the best the islands have to offer! Plus we've left a list of some of our favorite island activities if you choose to get out and explore - the Big Island has a lot to offer!

The fully equipped gourmet kitchen has a SubZero fridge and freezer with ice maker and filtered water, a super quiet dishwasher (you'll have to check to see if it's even running!), a five burner ceramic cook top, oven, microwave, and all the accessories you will ever need. We provide local Kona coffee beans, a grinder, and coffee maker, as well as many spices, cooking oils, and more for a basic starting setup. Seating options abound for meals in - dine at the 3 person high counter bar, 6 person dining room table, or spend your time on the lanai, with lot's of comfortable seating, a table, a small fridge, and a Viking Grill so you can BBQ Hawaiian style!!!

The living area has a large wicker sectional couch (island made of course), a 60 inch smart HDTV to watch that big game with a huge selection of channels, as well as an Apple TV, a DVD player, and a bluetooth MP3 player - all with surround sound. Or learn to play one of the two ukuleles (tuner and "Ukulele for Dummies" book included!) The ceiling fan will keep the air moving as you open the glass pocket wall doors, bringing the outside in as the living room becomes part of the lanai for everyone to enjoy the fresh Hawaiian air.

The over sized Master Suite I has a King Bed with a brand new plush mattress (as of SEP 2015), a 48 inch smart HDTV, a ceiling fan, and its own spa-like private bath with two sinks, two shower heads, and a separate large soaking tub. Free wifi is available throughout the villa, and the smart HDTV's all offer Netflix and other streaming options.

Master Suite II has a King Bed, 42 inch smart HDTV, a ceiling fan, and an adjoining bathroom with a tub and spa shower with all the same bath amenities as in Master Suite I.

Guest Suite III has 2 Twin Beds and a shared bathroom, an HDTV, and a DVD player. Perfect for kids or adults. If desired, the twin beds can be made into a comfortable king bed to sleep a third couple.

We care about the health of our guests and the health of our planet, so we provide a bath amenity kit with locally made shampoos, conditioners, shower gel, soaps, and lotions - all natural without any harsh chemicals, which your skin and hair will love. We also provide earth-friendly detergents and soaps in our kitchen and laundry which are non-toxic to humans an the local marine environment.

Whenever we visit the island (several times a year), we're always making little changes to improve our guest's experience. We're thrilled that you're considering sharing our home, and we really do go the extra mile to ensure you have a wonderful holiday! As of August 2015, we have taken over the management of our Villa for vacation rentals so we can provide you with that extra level of customer service and personal touch you have come to expect!

About Jeffrey Parker & Susie Latvala

An air traffic controller flirting with a pilot? That is how we met over 25 years ago! We have grown and done a lot since those days, having lived in 5 states (Arizona, Colorado, Alaska, Nevada, and Washington) and travelled all over the world. There are still more places to go but we always keep coming back to Hawaii! Jeff is now retired after 25 years with the FAA and Susie is still flying all over the world for a major cargo airline. In that aspect, we've relocated along with our black lab mix Boodha to Sai Kung, Hong Kong for a few years to do a little more exploration - after which we should return to our home in Port Angeles, WA, with an eye on snow birding on the Big Isle! Taking after our dogs (past & present), we enjoy life with open oceans, fields and mountains to play! We have been visiting the Big Island for over twenty five years, and finally we have been able to make our dreams come true since August of 2013 when we purchased Villa 16A at Kolea!

Kolea is the ONLY ocean front condo unit in Waikoloa, and it is five star! We love the island way of life as the focus on family, locally grown foods, and environment leads the way in Hawaii. Plastic grocery bags not being allowed on the island is a prime example. Local restaurants pride themselves in serving local ingredients. Farmers markets are more than just a weekend activity. The island itself has many (eight out of thirteen) climate zones so if you want out of the heat, drive thirty minutes and you can be in the clouds - from desert to rain forest. There is even snow on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa in the winter months! Then there is the active volcano, Kilauea (erupting since 1983!) All surrounded by an amazing ocean. Kolea is a great location to access this island bounty none of the other Hawaiian islands offer!

What makes this condo unique

Because of 16A's location on the ground floor at the far end of the building, our villa is the most private in the entire complex! Enjoy the expansive lawn and relaxing lanai furniture. We have created a warm and luxurious decor inside to make you feel pleased and pampered, and have provided all the amenities you'll need! Plus Villa 16A is a great location! While not closest to the Beach Club, it's only a few minutes walk, as is the beach access and the Marriott...Once there enjoy the stunning view of Anaeho'omalu Bay (better known as "A Bay") - it is easy to find oneself frolicking on the beach or in the waves, all in the company of honu (turtles.)

Villa 16A is in a quiet corner of Kolea, closest to the shops and restaurants that Waikoloa offers which makes foot travel a breeze. Yet all are out of sight due to the rolling hill and lush tropical vegetation.

Once inside Villa 16A, you are in a luxury condo that feels like a home.

What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a beautiful setting. I don't think that I have ever stayed anywhere that had such a splendid welcome basket, and locally sourced toiletries! The Villa was very comfortable, and worked well for our three generations, ranging in age from 3 y/o to 70. The walk to the beach took 5 minutes for most of us. (The 7 y/o wants me to mention that the Villa is "very fancy!")

Best Vacation Rental Ever!

I have stayed in vacation rentals all over the world. This one was the best because:

1. It had the amenities of home, as well as everything you would need for a great vacation. The welcome basket was a nice touch!

2. The owners had great communication up to, and through, the entire stay

3. The unit was secluded and very quiet, just as promised. Yet, a very close walk to the clubhouse and pool, as well as shopping and restaurants

4. The unit was very clean

Beautiful setting, elegantly furnished and very comfortable. We were delighted with easy access to the beach and the amenities of the club and the nearby hotel. At the same time, the condominium was private and quiet.

We thank you for the welcome package.

I only wish that we had planned a longer vacation. The volcano of course was no threat.

I don’t write reviews (not my job) but in this case I am compelled to share what a fabulous place Pua Kai Lani is. The location is great - an easy walk to a beautiful sandy beach, the miles-long coast trail with it’s amazing lava beaches, historic fish ponds, restaurants, shops and the swimming pool. While it is close to everything the condo and lanai seem very private. The lanai is surrounded by lush jungley green landscaping on one side (complete with the occasional gecko and bird), a nice grass lawn on one side and the amazing Viking grill and little fridge on the other side. The whole place is beautiful, perfectly outfitted, comfortable and super clean. The kitchen has everything you need, even sharp knives. The bedrooms are great – comfortable beds and pillows, nice linens, and quite spacious. The bathrooms are great – huge tub, nice showers. Nice laundry facility. The owners, Jeffery and Susie, have been a delight to work with. They provided an amazing array of “welcome basket” items – fruit, nuts and chocolates, Mia Tia mix and fabulous local soaps and lotions (I want to buy a case of that Kauai Kiss shea butter cream!). We needed a couple of “extra” items and they were incredibly accommodating. We drove around the whole island and Waikoloa had the nicest weather (if you like sun). We had some of the best snorkeling ever just a few miles north of Waikoloa – an amazing variety of fish and a few turtles, and a boogey boarding beach just north of that. All in all, Pua Kai Lani is a perfect place to stay while enjoying the Big Island – the only thing missing was an ocean view, which we discovered are few and far between and come at an incredible premium. Fantastic vacation rental!

Really beautiful and spacious - fully stocked with lots of essentials for our stay. We traveled with extended family and had plenty of room for everyone to stay comfortably together while still having their own space. Great location, very close to incredible beaches and great restaurants. The owners Jeffrey & Susie are so very kind and delightful to work with. We've rented a number of vacation homes/condos over the years and this spot is at the top of our list.

Oh my! We are returning!!!

Susie and Jeffrey have a stunning property....well appointed, attention to EVERY detail, and in a great location. Open the patio doors to expand the living space, or enjoy the ocean breeze on the beautiful and private lanai. We were ready to leave the world behind for a 'no worry' vacation----this is the perfect property. Walk to the pool, hot tub or beach; great routes for walking and running (enjoyed early mornings); or jump in the car to for excursions--explore beaches, head north to Kohala for ice cream, take the saddle to Hilo (stop to tour the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, visit Kilauea crater rim and lava flow, and swing around to Kona coffee and Mac nuts-- great location for all activities. We are returning and hope to be lucky enough to secure Susie and Jeffrey's property again.

Kolea is a one stop destination, offering a great pool area for adults, a pool for children, and one of the top beaches in Hawaii just steps away. Abundant water sports, play (or even learn - you are on vacation!) golf at the two golf courses, hike the 32 mile Kings Trail (built in 1855), shopping, and dining are all walking distance of our villa. But don't limit yourself to just Waikaloa Resort - helicopter to the volcano, dive with the manta rays, explore lush valleys, and deep sea fishing are more amazing options on the Big Island of Hawaii.
