About Kim and Mike Rafferty

I have lived all over the world but have called New Orleans home for the past 15 years. I work as a real estate agent in the city specializing in Uptown and the Garden District so I know an amazing location when I see it.

Kim and Mike Rafferty purchased this condo in 2015

Why Kim and Mike Rafferty chose Central City/Garden District

We love the location of this home for visitors because it is so central to everything you will want to visit while you are in town. There is no need for a car! In just a few steps you will be on the street car to the French Quarter or to go further uptown. Plus you have the added benefit of being so close to Magazine street with great shopping and bars. And, if you are coming for Mardi Gras well it doesn't get better than this for parade watching and the convenience of drink refills and a restroom just a block from the route.

What makes this condo unique

I love New Orleans architecture and this is what drew me to this condo originally. Unlike many city condos that you may have seen, this is a portion of a historic grand home. It truly feels like a smaller version of a true New Orleans home. You have your front porch to be able to sit and sip ice tea (or something stronger!) and when you walk in the home the hard wood floors, soaring ceilings, and grand windows take your breath away. You also have the added benefit of a truly updated kitchen with all stainless steel appliances and a breakfast bar. The space is generous so you will have plenty of room for four guests.

Awesome place.

  • 5 of 5

Great location. Loved the neighborhood bars and restaurants. Blind Pelican for oysters! Streetcar is so close but also not far to walk downtown. Very comfortable accommodation. Really appreciated some of the extras that were left in the cupboards and fridge. Some places are completely stripped of everything. Definitely will stay here on our next trip to NOLA.

Nice Place, convenient

  • 4 of 5

One block from St Charles Tavern-great breakfast(and take-out), as well as 1 block from Charles Street trolley. The place itself was very accommodating, and the owners were very courteous working with us on our check out date due to a late plane departure.

Great location for exploring the whole area!

  • 5 of 5

Great stay! Loved staying in a real NOLA house, rather than a cookie-cutter hotel room. Entire apartment fitted out completely with everything we needed, plus more! Loved being able to do a quick load of laundry and a full fridge to stash our local strawberries and beer!

Easy walk to the Street Car and parking always available. Safe, and really felt part of the neighborhood with life going on all around us! Having lived in the area before, I would suggested this rental.

While you can manage to see many parts of NOLA without renting a car, we recommend that you do as it makes it much easier to find the out of the way places and explore the bayou. The Quarter is only 1% of everything the area has to offer!

This Gem of a Condo is Home Away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

My niece and I were so comfortable staying at this condo for 7 days/6 nights that we didn't want to leave. From the moment I made the reservation (six months prior to our stay), the owners, Kim and Mike, welcomed us, offered info about places of interest in the neighborhood, and answered specific questions we had about Mardi Gras, which was the reason we visited New Orleans.

The house itself is beautiful and extremely clean and is represented accurately on this site. It was large enough for both of us to have space and privacy, and having a kitchen and washer and dryer were convenient perks we would not have enjoyed at a hotel. Kim has great taste in decorating, and there were nice touches (throw pillows, a variety of books, beautiful art, and Mardi Gras decor) throughout. Upon arrival, we immediately felt comfortable and at home.

The location of the house is one of its perks. For us, being one block from the St. Charles street car and the Uptown parade route was a big bonus. It is also near restaurants, a Walgreens, and one of our favorite daiquiri stands in the Lower Garden District.

Kim is extremely responsive and helpful. Being someone who is detail-oriented, I appreciated her attention to all aspects of our stay, including the very comprehensive house manual, which we referred to before, during, and even after our stay.

We highly recommend staying here, and if you choose to, you will be lucky to have such a beautiful property as your home base and such gracious and hospitable hosts. We cannot wait to return, as we are missing New Orleans, this condo (with very comfy beds!), and the confidence that anything we needed was a text away. It was the perfect vacation home for us, and we are grateful for the thoroughly positive and satisfying experience.

Well managed and well-appointed condo

  • 4 of 5

This condo is only one block from a trolley car stop on St. Charles Avenue and makes getting into the city simple. It's also good for checking out the Garden District (Magazine Street is only a 15 minute stroll away). We had friends sleeping on the (large) living room's pull-out couch. They are seasoned travelers and described it as being more comfortable than some hotel beds. You can typically park directly outside the condo (no parking restrictions). Kitchen appliances are good quality and the bedroom is large, with a decent sized walk-in-closet. Water pressure is good and the rain-head shower faucet works well. There are very high ceilings, exposed brickwork, hardwood floors and crown molding, which make for considerable charm. The only downsides we noted were that the Brown's Dairy ("smooth as velvet!") is directly opposite and trucks are backing up and pulling out all hours of the night. If you're a light sleeper, ear plugs are needed and they will block out the noise. Also it is a transitional block, with two mattresses on the sidewalk opposite and a few homeless folks hanging out further down from the condo.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to submit a review, Alex. I'm sorry the homeless guy chose our block to overnight on...that is a first for our location, in large part because the dairy across the street has excellent security lighting and security personnel. The mattress he apparently used was dumped by persons unknown onto a trailer that was being used by the City of New Orleans to haul concrete debris from their recent sidewalk repair. I assure you the homeless problem is more pronounced in the Garden District, the Central Business District, and the French Quarter than it is in our block. But that seems to be a part of urban life these days. As is noise..we live in the Garden District and enjoy the foghorns and engines from Mississippi river traffic all night , but feel it is a price worth paying for the opportunity to live there, but that of course is a personal choice. Thanks for staying with us Alex, and we hope you'll consider us in the future.
