About Melvin Camden

I am a supervisor at C.W. Barger & Son, an aggregate limestone quarry in nearby Lexington. As a result of buying this house, the Phyllis and I eventually bought the Hilltop Market across the street, which adds so much convenience to be able to shop right across the street for groceries, fresh meat, beer and wine, fishing supplies, etc. We have lived in the area all our lives, been married over 30 years, and look forward to making your vacation the best possible!

Melvin Camden purchased this chateau / country house in 2011

Why Melvin Camden chose Buchanan

Loved the house and the location, its amenities, the window seat in an upstairs bedroom, its possibilities of renovations, the yard, the view, the friendly neighbors--everything!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Comfort, comfort, comfort! So many things to enjoy in the area indoors and out. History, adventure, and culture all close by! The views are spectacular!

Spacious Home close to the Interstate

  • 5 of 5

The home is comfortable and easy to find. The keypad entry is a nice touch. The inside was warm and clean when we arrived. Our children enjoyed exploring the many rooms and selecting their bedroom. The bathrooms are large and well laid out. The store across the street was open until 8PM on Sunday which was great for grabbing a bottle of wine for the evening and eggs for the morning. The owners have done a wonderful job making an enjoyable place to stay. One suggestion for further improvement is to add side tables and lamps in the upstairs bedrooms.

Literary Lunatics Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our book club stayed for a long weekend. We enjoyed the house very much. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us. The house was older, but very well kept up and very clean. It was well stocked with every thing we needed for our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

Great house for a large family!

  • 5 of 5

Very thankful that this house was available for a one-night accommodation, it was great for our needs and worked much better than getting two motel rooms for the night, so much bedroom space for the price! The house is neat and well kept as represented, but not one I would describe as pretty. The back porch space and accompanying view is great, but with our short stay we couldn't really take advantage of enjoying that. One thought - with bed space for up to 10 guests it would be great to have dining seating available for more than 4. Thanks for a nice stay, best wishes

This was a great weekend!! Two families enjoyed this house for a long weekend and there was plenty of room. Ms. Phyllis and Mr. Melvin have thought of everything to make sure their guests enjoy their stay. If you are looking for a quiet get away this is the place to go. The Hilltop Market across the street has everything you will need if you forgot anything or if you just want to wait until you get here to get your things.

Charming, perfect

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here! There was plenty of room for all of us (7 adults, 5 kids - mostly toddlers) and we had everything we could possibly need. The owners clearly thought of everything. It was also in the perfect location to do all the fun things we had planned for our weekend (Safari Park, Natural Bridge, Lexington, Roanoke). Thank you for everything, we’ll be back! 😊😊

comfortable and spacious home

  • 5 of 5

plenty of spacious bedrooms, large living room area and nice screened porch overlooking the town below. convenient having small store across the street to grab food/drink. we loved the biscuits from the store and enjoyed walking across the bridge to the quaint town. nice to have everything provided at the house so we did not have to think about packing any household items.
