About Melvin Camden

I am a supervisor at C.W. Barger & Son, an aggregate limestone quarry in nearby Lexington. As a result of buying this house, the Phyllis and I eventually bought the Hilltop Market across the street, which adds so much convenience to be able to shop right across the street for groceries, fresh meat, beer and wine, fishing supplies, etc. We have lived in the area all our lives, been married over 30 years, and look forward to making your vacation the best possible!

Melvin Camden purchased this chateau / country house in 2011

Why Melvin Camden chose Virginia

Loved the house and the location, its amenities, the window seat in an upstairs bedroom, its possibilities of renovations, the yard, the view, the friendly neighbors--everything!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Comfort, comfort, comfort! So many things to enjoy in the area indoors and out. History, adventure, and culture all close by! The views are spectacular!

The Overlook

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice, clean and well stocked. There were 5 people in our group and the layout of the house was very convenient and comfortable for spending time watching a movie, eating breakfast or sitting on the screened porch. The Camden's provided everything we could think of - movies and a DVD player, coffee maker, plenty of seating. You could find anything you need across the street at the store.

We spent the day at Natural Bridge, checked in with Ms. Phyllis across the street at the store and went inside to get cleaned up for dinner. Ballast Point Brewery's new tasting room/restaurant had just opened and we made the 20 or so minute trek. Sunday morning we got up and went the 5 minutes or so to Twin Rivers Outfitters for a kayak trip on the James.

We would definitely stay at the Overlook again!

Charming house with nice view and great location

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully renovated house with old-style charm. Screened back porch has lovely view of quaint town with mountain backdrop. Convenient to the highway and near The Natural Bridge. We enjoyed walking to the town with the kids over the swinging bridge.

We had a great stay at the overlook. The house was well equipped and had a fantastic screen porch.

We had a wonderful stay. The house is well equipped and the screen porch was fantastic. The closeness to downtown, the river and numerous hiking trails made it a great choice. We had four kids under four and we were able to spread out and really enjoy ourselves.

Just right!

  • 5 of 5

The house was just what we needed. It was clean, in good repair, nothing fancy. The owner provided plenty of towels, toliet paper and even tolietries (Shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap). It was easy to find. We bought munchies from across the street and watched Netflix. The next morning we got breakfast from across the street and ate on the screened in back porch. The house is right on the road but there was not a lot of traffic and we were not kept awake. Very convenient to everything we wanted to do! Thank you very much! I would absolutely stay there again!
