Great Location
The location is wonderful - a short walk to the ocean, and in a nice neighbourhood. The kitchen is clean, modern, and well equipped. The beds are comfortable. There are plenty of towels.
However, there are some shortfalls when it comes to overall standard. The window in the second bedroom doesn't open (bring a fan if the weather is hot). The tub is very slow draining, and the hot water tap in the tub comes right off if you turn it too far (surprise!! Hot water gushing straight out). The screen door is very difficult to manage, coming off its track at the slightest excuse, and the handles keep slipping down to the ground. Other smaller quibbles (paint peeling in bedroom, dirty windows, worn outside chairs and cushions, a broom that is well past its best-before date) made the place feel shabby, rather than "rustic". A heads-up about the non-drinkable well water would have been nice. Be prepared to lug 18 litre bottles of water.
The condition of the place didn't ruin our visit, but the owner could do better with many of the details, considering the price charged.
The cabin is petite but extremely well laid out to make the best use of the space and provided ample storage for clothes and food. The kitchen gave us everything we needed to prepare meals except a teapot. We thoroughly enjoyed drinking our morning coffee on the beach while watching the Great Blue Heron, gulls, seals, and a sea otter. Bring your binoculars. The view across the lawn to the beach and Texada Island across the water was always beautiful with the changing light and weather. The small street behind the cabin is exceptionally quiet. We saw rabbits and deer in the neighbourhood. The marshy nature reserve down the street and around the bend made a good spot for bird-watching. Our September holiday was very peaceful and we would happily return.
