About Jan-Ake Schultz

We moved to Alaska in 2000 and were wonderfully fortunate to acquire this property. After building the cabin and raising Our family here, now is the time to share it with like-minded travelers who will appreciate its unique and magical features

Jan-Ake Schultz purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Jan-Ake Schultz chose Kenai Peninsula

This is no hotel room. If you sit on the deck and read about Alaska Nellie and the sourdoughs who pioneered this great land you will feel and be a part of the story. The Iditarod National Historic Trail runs along the frozen lakefront in winter......

What makes this cabin unique

History- You will pass the 100 Year old historic cabin on the way in, you will travel the gravel footpaths, you will watch the morning lift off the ferns, you will witness and hear the flight of sandhill cranes overhead in season

Beautiful time roughing it

  • 5 of 5

Where should I start?

Got an upgrade to a lake side, the fire was fantastic wood provided, all cooking utensils and condiments available in cabin, great view, clean cabin!, Lots of windows!

No running water and an outhouse, so this was perfect compromise between a hotel room and camping. The lady wasn't fond of the outhouse but managed! Didn't get a chance to try the boats/sauna but it looked great!

Thanks Gary! Very please to inn keeper!

Almost hesitant to review as I don't want to share this one!

Rustic but rewarding cabin experience

  • 4 of 5

Great place, great management, and the place was accurately described.

It's a quirky property, with the amenities beside the cabin scattered amidst the woods, with a semi-outdoor shower and DYI wood-fired sauna and hot tub. Its place on Kenai Lake is gorgeous, and we enjoyed taking out a rowboat for views of the surrounding snow-spotted mountaintops and glaciers.

For us, the outhouse, a primitive setup, was too much to bear, so we tried to use bathrooms while we were in town. Property would be better, in my opinion, with a modern port-a-potti installed.

Had great cozy fires, and enjoyed the experience.

Awesome Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cabin!! It was super quaint and peaceful. The train does come by every now and then but its not even a bother! Loved the seclusion. The cabin had everything we needed. The outside shower was a great surprise. The sauna and hot tub looked super fun, we did not get a chance to use them. Gary, who takes care of the properties was super nice and helpful. Really loved this place and would highly recommend. Definitely will be back! Thanks so much!

The way Alaska was meant to be experienced!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this property! If you love the outdoors, and want the experience of being off the grid, this is for you! The cabin was clean, beds were super warm and comfortable, and the outdoor space was divine. Plenty of wood for all the fires you want. We spent a day warming the sauna and hot tub, while sitting with a fire by the lake. The outdoor shower was a nice touch, but may not be for everyone. We would go back just to stay at this place again. So relaxing and wonderful.
