About Jackie Havard

I'm Jackie. I grew up on Capitol Hill in Washington DC a block from Eastern Market. I have lived in Durham, New Hampshire, Amherst, Massachusetts, San Francisco, California and Brooklyn, New York. I'm so glad life's twists and turns brought me back here to DC, what a great city. It's fun to raise my daughter in the neighborhood I grew up in. DC is such an interesting blend of history, culture, art and beauty. I love to read. I love to write. I love live music. I love art. I love movies. I love baseball. I have been a waitress, a bartender, a teacher, a decorative and scenic painter, a graphic designer, a real estate agent, a traffic and weather reporter, a DJ for an Americana music station and I was lucky to find myself on the security team for the best nightclub on the planet. I wish I had more time for yoga classes and gardening. I love to cook a big, fresh feast. Most of all I'm so grateful to be mom to a dynamic, energetic, curious, cuddly 1st grader. How exciting for you to be planning your next adventure here in Washington DC. It's going to be great. Happy trails!

Why Jackie Havard chose Washington DC

I had only begun to think about the idea of looking for a house of my own to buy. I expected to take my time searching. A good friend of mine was moving onto this block and just to continue a conversation we were having, I came to see the house down the street that had just popped up for sale. The minute I walked in the door, I knew I was home. It had everything I wanted from the front porch, to the hearth, to all the natural light pouring through the skylights, to the backyard. I swept it up and have felt so lucky ever since.

Was as described and PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 (2 Adults and or 16, 13 and 11 year olds sons) were very comfortable in the house and in the neighborhood. Laundry was key for some messy eaters:) The Safeway plus grocery cart was super close and a great way to have snacks for our long days. The restaurant recommendations were spot on. the Potomac Street Metro Station was super close and easy to get to - Jackie leaving the Metro cards was an added bonus:)

We had very long days that included a lot of walking so coming back to the house and the outdoor patio for a glass of wine while the kids watched some TV was a perfect ending to our day. There was too much to see in our 3 day visit so we look forward to coming back and staying at Jackies again.

Great spot for home base in DC

  • 5 of 5

1522 was a perfect location for our family to use as a base for our adventures. Located in a cute neighborhood within walking distance to the metro, we could spend our days sightseeing and have a comfy spot to return to, with lots of dinner options. My sports loving husband would have liked to have had cable so he could catch up on football and golf scores, but otherwise we were very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to others!

It was as described! This was our first time in D.C. for our family of 5 and we were a bit overwhelmed at first because we are not from the city and had never been on the metro. Jackie provided not only metro cards for our use, but secured us a residential parking pass.

The house has everything you could possibly need and more. It rained our last day in D.C. and right by the door were umbrellas for our use!

I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay for anyone visiting the D.C. area.

Fabulous stay in quintessential DC row home

  • 5 of 5

This family of 4 from Portland, OR loved staying in a neighborhood of row homes. It was myself, husband and two kids (11 & 14).

Jackie is a fabulous host and there was not one thing that we needed in the home that she had not already thought of. The home had all of the things that are important to me in a stay with my family.

1. Safety- the bars on the windows could be a little offsetting, but it really made us feel nice and safe at night. It's a very diverse neighborhood of folks, but we pretty much always felt safe. One Lyft driver did tell us to not walk around with the family late at night. ??

2. Cleanliness- everything was clean and tidy. The bedding was fresh and felt new.

3. Location- we were close to many popular D.C. Attractions and it was fun to stay in a row home and not just a big chain hotel.

4. Amenities- we loved being able to do laundry, have separate bedrooms from the kids and having a functional kitchen. I didn't cook, but we did ho to Safeway and get snacks, fruit and cereal.

I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone wanting a more authentic D.C. Experience. Jackie left us raspberry crumb cake, which was a delight as we didn't arrive until after midnight and it was a welcome treat. There was a issue with the downstairs bathroom, but Jackie was communicative the whole time and it wasn't that big of a deal for our family. We just used the upstairs bathroom.

Tips- we found that Lyft'ing all over town was very cost effective for our family of 4. I think cheaper than public transportation. Also, check out 8th st, near the Marine barracks. A lot of great restaurants and a fun, close by place to walk around. We had dessert at Ted's Bulletin and it was fantastic!

30th anniversary trip

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about Jackie's home. This home is walking distance to the metro and in a neighborhood we felt completely safe in. It is great that she had metro passes available (we did not use because we bought a week long pass). There are even umbrellas by the door which we DID use:) Jackie thought of absolutely everything and was very responsive (sorry again that I had to bother you) - if only she could control the weather! Thank you for helping to make our 30th wedding anniversary so enjoyable.

Amazing and super cute House!

  • 5 of 5

This place was just perfect! We stayed here with our 3 teenage kids while we explored D.C. For the week. There was everything you could think of in the house, which was great so we could relax at night and cook at home. The beds were so comfortable! The neighbors were nice and we were close to groceries and several times we walked from the house to the capital to start our day. We would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay!

Car: not necessary

Capitol Hill is a Vibrant Yet Cozy Neighborhood. I Grew Up Here and I Love It! It's Full of Deep Roots, Historic Homes and Landmarks, But It's Also Hip, Dynamic and Thriving With Local Shops and Restaurants. It Feels Like Being in a Small Town Nestled Right in the Heart of a Big City. There Are So Many Different Ways to Enjoy It. It is the Perfect Gateway to the Rest of the City. the Potomac Avenue Metro Stop is Only 3 and a Half Blocks Away Where You Can Catch the Blue, Orange Or Silver Lines. This Affords You Quick Access to the Capitol, Monuments, Museums and All of Downtown With It's Restaurants, Bars, Theaters and Live Music Venues. Capitol Bike Share Has a Docking Station a Block and a Half Away in Front of Safeway (the grocery store). Hop On a Bike and Take a Ride Down to the National Mall, Or Over to Nats Park for a Ballgame. Or You Could Just Stroll Through the Streets of Our Neighborhood, Taking in the Historic Homes and Gardens As You Make Your Way to the Eastern Market. Here You Will Find Fresh Vegetables, Unique Cheeses, Homemade Ravioli, Meats, Fish, a sweet shop and Flowers. if It is a Saturday Or Sunday Then Count On the Street Being Closed With Local Artists and Farmers Selling Their Goods. if You Aren't Up for Cooking, Grab a Delicious Wood Fired Pizza at Seventh Hill Or a Gourmet, Authentic French Dinner at Montmartre. These Are Just a Few Suggestions, the Possibilities Are Endless in This Dynamic City.
