About Steve Alford

My name is Steve Alford. I have lived in Memphis all my life but have always had a presence in Arkansas. I spent hundreds of days on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs. I fell in love with Northwest Arkansas and would ride my motorcycle in the area a couple of times a year. I also made a yearly cabin trip to the area in the fall. That is where I saw and fell in love with House on the Rock. I purchased it in June 2015 and will spend my spare time turning it into a showplace! I always welcome any suggestions you may have after your stay there.

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved the remoteness of the house, though not at all hard to get to. Looking out the deck you aren't aware of any civilization. The scenery is beautiful and the sky is so dark that the stars shine brightly. We enjoyed the several games that are offered and, of course, the fire pit, complete with plenty of wood. We wandered through Calico Rock, small, good, museum, an old hotel, a new arts and gift store, and went to the Caverns and waterfall. A very nice weekend.

We LOVED House On The Rock!!!

  • 5 of 5

We've been home for a week now after our stay at House On The Rock (HOTR) & are still talking about what a great place it was & how we wish we were there! We stayed for a week & it still wasn't long enough! The owner, Steve, was a pleasure to deal with & very prompt about getting back with me with any questions I had. We found the cabin to be very comfortable & just the right combo of rustic & chic. It was clean & well stocked with everything needed for a trouble-free stay. One thing we found out is Izard County is a dry county, so if you plan on having any "adult beverages," you'll want to plan accordingly. We normally like to "go & do" when on vacation, but we enjoyed HOTR so much we didn't want to go anywhere else. When we had to go out for groceries, we drove to Mountain View for those & while there stopped at Tommy's Pizza. Tommy's was a real find...a friendly little hole-in-the-wall pizza joint with great pizza & calzones. Calico Rock is really charming too. Babycakes Bakery there had really good blackberry-peach pie & sugar donuts. The HOTR property itself is beautiful with the woods, cave underneath & rock outcroppings & the views from the river bluffs across the road are breathtaking. It was really hot when we were there & hadn't rained in quite a while, making the roads super dusty, so our time outside was limited to early morning & evening. Because of its remote location, there's no light pollution at HOTR & the stargazing is fantastic! We'd sit out on the deck every night, watch the sun set, the night fall & then stargaze while listening to cows, crickets & coyotes. It was too hot for a fire, indoors or out, but I'm sure the fireplace & fire ring are great when it's cool enough. Some things to note if you stay at HOTR are there are coyotes, so keep that in mind when bringing pets; the house is in a rural setting on a rock road & away from everything; there's no wifi, spotty cell phone coverage & limited TV channels; the property is wooded, on a bluff, with a cave & spring below & lots of rock outcroppings. We loved it for all those reasons & more, but realize that might not be for everyone, so it's worthy of a mention. If you appreciate nature/the outdoors, you'll love it, but if your idea of fun is outlet mall shopping, arcades, chain restaurants & nightclubs, you may want to look elsewhere. Thx, Steve, for one of the most fun, relaxing vacations we've had in a long time...we'll be back!!! ~ The Eulers, Indianapolis, IN

Very Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

If you want peace and quite this is the place for you! Just you and the mountains. Cabin was just as described- clean and roomy. Screened in porch is awesome. The town is small but does have a nice grocery store and Dollar General for all your needs. I would recommend and would love to go back.

Everything was even better than described. We stayed at House on the Rock for 8 days during our family vacation. Not only is the house and property great but there is so much to do and see in the surrounding areas!

This was the best vacation we have had. The cabin was peaceful and beautiful!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it there. We will definitely be going back. It was so beautiful and relaxing. There was 6 of us staying there and had a great time. It was me and my husband and 4 teenage kids. We had a wonderful time hiking in the woods behind the cabin and enjoying the nature. Love, Love , Love it there.
