Kit & Phyllis Barnett
About Kit & Phyllis Barnett
I was born and raised in Homer, my husband, Kit is from Scotland. While I have never moved away from Homer, I have done considerable travel. Kit and I have chosen (in my case re-chosen) Homer for our own love of hiking, fishing, camping, and boating. We worked in Bush Alaska during the school year, I was a high school English teacher, Kit has worked as a VPSO (Village Public Safety Officer), alcohol distribution agent, and school bus driver, then, Maintenance & Operations for the school. We are now living in Homer full time and loving it!
Kit & Phyllis Barnett purchased this Apartment in 1987
Why Kit & Phyllis Barnett chose Homer
It was the views of Kachemak Bay and the snow capped mountains, the abundant natural light, the close proximity to town and the feeling of home I got from the house. I know the Banks' family that build the house, and it felt so right for me and my son. Then, when Kit joined me in this life adventure, he brought his own skills to bear on the property. It has been his carpentry skill that remodeled this house and his love of gardening that has transformed the grounds (always evolving!).
What makes this Apartment unique
It is the flower gardens are what will catch you eye as you drive up the driveway. The showy Sitka Roses cover the bushes in July. Wild blue geraniums, Alaskan irises, blooming abundantly are accented by the vibrant Oriental poppy. Delphinium and pansies (the Great Dane and the Chihuahua of the garden) mingle and vie for attention. It is all a glorious blast of color in our short summer. Most of these beauties were on the property when I purchased it, others have been given to us by friends and family (the Columbine and Chives came from my mother). Then, when you turn around to look out at the view . . . the light peaking through the clouds to play on the calm morning waters of Kachemak Bay or the evening light bathing the mountains in shades of pink. Every time of day has its own charms. Cloudy days create moods with the light and dark alternating over the water. Breathtaking, exhilarating, calming and serene, on different days at different times. We plant a small vegetable garden on the property which we gladly make available to our guests. If you are eating in, make use of the kale, swiss chard, arugula, a variety of lettuces, and this year a new addition, asian greens - they are beautiful! Pick lower leaves first and the plants will continue to provide all summer. Later in the fall there will be a few potatoes. Just help yourself.

Great place in Homer!
Very clean, comfortable beds, and tasty garden to cook up the freshly caught halibut! We had a great stay and hope to be back!!
A wonderful peaceful retreat
such a wonderful and comfortable place, super comfy beds and bedding. Gorgeous and comfortable living room furniture, kitchen with all the basics. As much as we loved Homer, we also loved just staying in the house - reading, watching wildlife. Thank you so much, we cannot wait to come back
Cute Cottage with Great View
This cottage in Homer was perfect! It reminded me of a 1950’s bungalow. Classic features, incredibly comfortable beds, great view, wonderful location to the main area in downtown Homer. Will definitely stay here again.
Thanks! Hope we do see you again.
Great place to stay in Homer!
This property is very clean and comfortable and met all of our needs for a private family getaway. It's a short distance from the Spit and has spectacular views of the Bay. Phyllis is very responsive to all inquiries, which was greatly appreciated! Would definitely stay here again.

We would be happy to have you back!
This updated historic home is a perfect blend of nostalgic charm combined with modern conveniences. The view from the house is spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and the opportunity to browse in Homer’s art community.
Homer is so fun - glad you got to see the great art!
Homer attracts people from all over the world and is also visited by fellow Alaskans throughout the year. Homer is known for its delightful art galleries and talented local artists, an incredible culinary scene, a wide variety of outdoor activities from fishing to ecotourism and several unique shopping opportunities from kitchen to home to clothing. Don't miss: The Bagel Shop (great coffee too), Homer Jeans (clothing), Odalla (gifts for everyone), North Wind (boutique for clothing and home).
