One of Southern Maine's nicest lakes, Lake Arrowhead is known for its world class bass fishing. The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife has recently named Lake Arrowhead as the only Trophy Base Lake in Maine and it regularly plays host to some of the areas biggest bass fishing championships. In fact, NESN and ESPN's Emmy award winning Charlie Moore, aka, 'The Mad Fisherman', can occasionally be seen filming his show on our waters. Watch for his bright orange boats! It is an 1100 acre lake, ideally located between Portland, Maine and North Conway, New Hampshire. It is known for its crystal-clear water, perfect for swimming and boating. It is full of coves, islands and inlets which make for some nice exploring with canoes or kayaks.
Other Activities: Boating, shelling, wildlife park, alpine skiing, basketball court, shopping
Golf: Salmon Falls Country Club offers very affordable golf and is only 13 miles away in Hollis. There are another 5-10 courses within 25 - 40 minutes, including Deep Brook in Saco, Province Lake Golf Course in Parsonsfield, Sables Oaks in South Portland, Nonesuch Country Club in Scarborough, Dunegrass in Old Orchard Beach, Biddeford-Saco Country Club in Saco, and the Sanford Country Club, to name a few.
Ski: XC ski right out your back door! Enjoy the open space of skiing Lake Arrowhead itself or head for the cover afforded skiers on the many available trails nearby.
Downhill skiing is only 50 minutes away at Maine's largest night time skiing facility, Shawnee Peak. Looking for a bigger challenge? Sunday River is one hour and forty minutes away, an easy day trip for the die hard skiers in your group!
About Valancy Harlow
Steve is a Chartered Financial Consultant and Valancy is a dental hygienist and a certified group exercise / water fitness instructor. Steve is a native Mainer and Valancy grew up in New Brunswick, Canada. We have one son, who is a recent college graduate in Civil Engineering. Our son has played hockey since age 4 so these are our first winters not spent living at the rink! Valancy and our yellow lab, Samson, have become quite the team on the dog agility competition circuit. You may see Samson practicing his jumps off the dock. We love skiing and we love the lake!
Why Valancy Harlow chose Lake Arrowhead
Steve stumbled across the property while teaching in the local school district back in 1980. It's location on the deepest end of the lake and the level/gentle sloping lot with 171' of direct lakefront made it too good to pass up. He used his summer time off to build out the large garage into an in-law guest house, which allowed his parents to move into it when they retired in 1985. While constantly updating the property every year, it now bears little resemblance to the large chalet camp of 1980. After moving to Saco in 2006, we decided to share Grand View 14 as a rental property unlike any other you will find in the area.
What makes this house unique
Being a grandfathered property, we are lucky to have our home located only 50 feet from the water, with a gentle slope on the lakeside with a flat grass play area inside the circular drive on the street side. We also love the serenity of all the hidden coves on the Lake. The perfect start to a day is to paddle around in the kayaks watching the sunrise.
