LAKEFRONT CABIN! Deer-trail 2Shore! Canoe/Kayak/SUP/Fishing/Pet/ 30mins 2Durango

Lakefront - Premier Views! Look no further, we have your Rustic Colorado Mountain Cabin waiting for you! Wooden 2-Bedroom Cabin crafted in the late '40s and upgraded each season.

Our Shanty Chic roomy cabin on the Lake is loaded with mountain-style design and beautiful custom landscaping. The cabin is all on one floor and easy to move around in.
The cabin offers a sunny, gourmet kitchen and is stocked for your culinary needs!
There is also a kitchen nook with window seating and a full bathroom off the kitchen.
Both bedrooms have newer medium firm queen mattresses and charming decor.
The living room and dining room have high-beam ceilings, and glass double doors that open to a wood deck that boasts gorgeous views of the lake.
Deck overlooking the lake with a picnic table, and patio chairs to enjoy time outside. Below the deck are two lounge chairs and another picnic table.
This cabin accommodates 4 adults, but can also sleep a maximum of two children under 10 on the pull-out couch, a $30.00 linen charge will be added.
We offer satellite programming with movie channels like HBO and complimentary Wi-Fi.
No smoking.
All pets must be approved in advance, with one to two dogs allowed for a separate $50 charge. Any pets left in the cabin alone must be crated, no exceptions! READ PET POLICY!

We have two independent cabins next to one another in a friendly neighborhood that offers secluded access to the shoreline shared with the neighboring cabin. Nothing but trees and a 100' natural, deer trail (which can be steep at points) down to your private spot, where you can swim, fish, and enjoy!

Our two cabins are next to one another on our 1/3 acre hillside lakefront property (it's easier down than up!) and offer our guests a "Shared" 3-person canoe, kyack, both with oars & life jackets, two fishing poles, and a tackle box all to enhance your vacation.
You are responsible for your family's safety.
If you choose to use the trail and any of our outdoor gear you are doing so "At your own risk". Everyone is not physically able to use the trail or the equipment. Any equipment used must be handled with care and lifted to the water and back to a designated area to keep it from being swept into the water.
Life jackets must be worn when in the lake, and we have several standard-size jackets,
bring your life jacket if you need a specific size.

Our small neighborhood has many majestic trees and because of this trash companies cannot use their hydraulic lift to pick up containers, all cabins use dumpsters on the main road and guests are responsible for taking their trash out.

To ensure all guests have the best experience, upon your arrival, I will try to meet with you to personally provide information on the cabin, neighborhood, and any related information you may want about the area to ensure your time at the lake is a success. One week before your stay, I will reach out to you and let you know the location of the keys, helpful tips on parking, and finding the cabin in case you arrive before me. I live in the area and am available 24/7 with any questions or concerns you may have during your stay.

Lovely vacation!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nice and clean and had all the amenities that were promised. We brought all our own food and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The cabin and rooms were very spacious. It’s a beautiful, peaceful, very quiet setting. Although there are several neighbors quite close, we never heard anything from any of them. The view of the lake from the cabin is spectacular and we enjoyed sitting on the deck having coffee in the mornings. Everything was quite comfortable and the beds are fantastic! I only have one complaint which I already discussed with René. When the sun rises over the mountains, it comes through the east facing windows (on the lake side of the cabin) and it’s absolutely blinding. We had to prop up towels in the windows with ski poles for a few hours every morning. This could easily be fixed with a couple of pull-down shades in those windows. We’re pretty close in Albuquerque, so we will definitely consider coming back.

1st VRBO experience
The host was very friendly and informative. The cabin was cute and the beds were comfortable. However, the sofa was extremely uncomfortable, covered in dog hair and needs to be replaced. The overstuffed chair was fairly comfortable but the biggest issue I had was the cleanliness. There was dog hair everywhere. I accidently dropped something and it rolled under the sofa - oh my god - there was enough hair underneath to cover a small dog. Same under the beds and other furniture including the coffee table legs. The baseboards were filthy with dirt buildup and dog hair. I realize it is an old cabin that's been renovated but it needs a thorough cleaning. The dishes had dried food on them, the dish drainboard needs to be cleaned, the kitchen faucet needs to cleaned, etc, etc. I'm not a clean freak and I don't normally leave a bad review but if it had been cleaner I would have given it a 5-star rating.

Perfect for what we were looking for
The location was exactly what I was looking for. It had the feeling of seclusion, quick access to the lake, and a quiet setting. The deck was my favorite feature, very peaceful. We had everything we needed inside and out. The communication with the renter was outstanding.

Hello, I'm René! My family and I moved to the Durango/Bayfield area from the shores of Santa Barbara in 2004; here, we found a home with the striking beauty of the Rocky Mountains. I have worked as a B2B consultant in the 4Corners area for nearly a decade; then, in 2015, I started the business Shanty Chic, managing quintessential mountain cabins in Vallecito Lake. Through my time in Colorado, I’ve become intimately familiar with the southwest and surrounding areas. As a host, I value taking time to create connections through personally meeting each of my guests. I listen both for needs and barriers, as well as goals and desires, in order to best accommodate you and provide meaningful suggestions for your trip. I am a guest-driven host, and my priority is to provide a safe and comfortable home for your experience in Vallecito Lake and beyond. I have cared for hundreds of guests and am excited to share all the insights that a trained guide, local business owner, and Colorado Mom can provide.

Why they chose this property

This cabin is located on Vallecito Lake. A beautiful, secluded mountain valley, just 18 miles from Durango. It is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. The lake has about 12 miles of shoreline and sits right in the middle of the San Juan National Forest.

What makes this property unique

One of the most unique benefits the Guest will have is the lake and mountains to relax and for sports enthusiasts - Enjoy! Long before the completion of the dam in 1940 made what is regarded as one of "the most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado," Vallecito was home to "The Ancient Ones," and later, the "Yuutaas," commonly known as the Southern Utes. Fur trappers, gold miners, and homesteaders followed, and with the completion of Vallecito Lake, the tourists. Today, Vallecito Lake is a special place for both residents and visitors alike. Located in a sheltered valley in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Vallecito is a nature-lovers paradise. Come explore...
