About this property

Spacious 3BR/2.5BA Mountain Getaway in Sandia Heights

Enjoy this beautiful, spacious two-floor home with three bedrooms and two and a half baths located just off Tramway Blvd. across the street from the Sandia foothills, a short walk to miles of hiking and biking trails, including Elena Gallegos Open Space.

Our home is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood at the base of the Sandia Mountains. Our comfortable living room features a Roku-equipped TV to access all of your favorite streaming services. The dining room easily seats six with our extendable table featuring a hidden leaf and an additional two-seat bench. The fully-stocked and recently renovated kitchen includes a breakfast nook with mountain views. Just off the living room is a quiet study, perfect for reading and catching up on email via the high-speed wireless internet.

The large master suite is located on the first floor with a king-sized bed, Roku-equipped TV, large walk-in closet, and spacious bathroom with a soaker tub and separate, private shower area.

Two additional, comfy bedrooms are located upstairs, one with a queen-sized bed, the other with two twin beds, both with ample closet space. Another full bathroom is located upstairs for your guests' convenience.

Our home also features a full-sized washer and dryer as well as a two-car garage.

The nearest Starbucks, Albertsons grocery store and CVS Pharmacy are only 1 mile away (3-minute drive). Close to Trader Joe's, shopping, casual and upscale dining.

Just seven minutes away is the Sandia Peak Tramway, the world's longest tramway. Ride the tram to the top of Sandia Mountains to enjoy beautiful views of the city of Albuquerque below, access to Sandia Peak Ski Resort in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.

Sandia Resort & Casino is only 10 minutes away, featuring an award-winning golf course open to the public, spa services, restaurants and concerts throughout the year.

Take a quick drive via I-25 and I-40 to historic Old Town where you can shop the Plaza for authentic turquoise and silver jewelry handcrafted by the First Nations vendors selling their wares. Get your fill of red or green chile (or ask for Christmas for both!) at many local New Mexican restaurants before heading over to Museum Row, featuring Albuquerque Museum of Art & History, New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, and Explora Science Museum for kids of all ages!

Our house is conveniently located near I-25 to head north for a short drive up to Santa Fe for a day trip. Or for a more leisurely and scenic drive up to Santa Fe, simply head south on Tramway Blvd. and around the Sandia Mountains to the Turquoise Trail.

And when Balloon Fiesta rolls around in early October, our home is conveniently located to both South and North entrances to Balloon Fiesta Park. This is a must-see event with balloonists coming from all over the world for this one-of-a-kind experience. Throughout the rest of the year, head to Balloon Fiesta Park to visit the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum to learn all about the "Hot Air Ballooning Capital of the World".

About the host

Hosted by Christopher Boone

Host profile image
We moved to Albuquerque in the summer of 2007 for a bit of adventure, and have been thrilled to make the Land of Enchantment our family's home ever since. Jennifer is a physician at Presbyterian Hospital and Christopher is a screenwriter and filmmaker. We live in the North Valley of Albuquerque, and Christopher is available to renters should you have any questions during your stay in our Sandia Heights home.

Why they chose this property

We love spending time in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. Jennifer regularly runs on the trails of Elena Gallegos Open Space (recently named a "Rave Run" by Runner's World Magazine), and we love to bring the kids up to the trails for hikes and picnics.

Jennifer's parents come and stay in Albuquerque for two months every winter, so we wanted to find a home for them to use during their stay. For the other ten months of the year, we decided to rent out the home for short-term rentals to give other travelers like Jen's parents the ability to experience the beauty of Albuquerque and the surrounding Southwest.

There is really nothing like walking out your front door and gazing upon the Sandia Mountains at any time of the day, but especially at sunset when the mountains turn a watermelon pink (hence, their name: "sandia" is Spanish for watermelon).
