About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

Each of the cabins we build from a kit or from scratch. All measures have been taken to provide all the comforts of home to make your stay as comfortable and authentic as possible. Click on the Cabins tab and take a tour of the available cabins. Each cabin has a list of amenities sure to please any vacationer and adventure seeker. We hope you enjoy The Great Smoky Mountains and this peace of paradise alone or with your family as much as we have.

In our life, it has been clear that nothing comes easily. We are happy that we took the hard road in many areas to develop and maintain our land, knowing that this efforts will eventually produce better results. Since we are family owned and operated we also maintain a self-sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using disposable products constantly, Sam and Tammy aims to use recyclable and reusable alternatives, even though they often require more effort.

Enjoy your stay with us!

Everyone should try a tiny house at least once!

  • 4 of 5

It's a tiny cabin! We did feel there was more room than expected (but not too much). Not too much hanging out space, but why would you want to when you are in the mountains? Took a drive/walk up to Peace Pagoda. It is a work in progress with very nice workers to talk too who encouraged us to take a look around. Oh, and the owner's dog accompanied us there, checking back to make sure we were still coming. (It was a rather steep walk to the top.) The hosts/owners were very nice and accommodating; more like a friend than an owner. We did have opportunity to utilize the heat, which worked quite well. Nice fire pit with chairs for private usage right out side the house. Be careful following GPS.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time. Secluded and cozy! We spent lots of time in front of the campfire. We used the tripod to cook all our meals over the fire instead of cooking on the cooktop in the cabin. The joys of camping without having to sleep in a tent! Loved our stay!

Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a cabin off the beaten path that would be close enough to restaurants and other things we would want to do. This cabin was perfect for the two of us. The reason we are giving a 4 instead of a 5 is that the neighboring cabin is closer than we thought and while we didn't mind a little noise I could see where it could annoy some people. Also the site should warn that the sleeping area is very tight. Otherwise we had a wonderful time in the charming cabin! It comes with all the linen and bedding we needed. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and cleaning supplies. Outside was a nice fire pit with plenty of seating with a picnic table and chairs for around the fire. The fire pit also has a tri-pod grill and a separate grill if you don't want to cook inside. We loved the location and will be back soon.

Wonderful time! Private, PEACEFUL, has everything you could ask for. Hot tub is amazing, the pond was relaxing and fun. Land is breathtaking with priceless views and scenery. The property owners are the kindest, most down to earth folks. They made sure we had everything we needed. The question is not, "Would we go back?" The question is, "How soon can we get back?". We are so excited about going back with some of our family. We can't wait for them to experience this little piece of heaven with us.
