About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

Each of the cabins we build from a kit or from scratch. All measures have been taken to provide all the comforts of home to make your stay as comfortable and authentic as possible. Click on the Cabins tab and take a tour of the available cabins. Each cabin has a list of amenities sure to please any vacationer and adventure seeker. We hope you enjoy The Great Smoky Mountains and this peace of paradise alone or with your family as much as we have.

In our life, it has been clear that nothing comes easily. We are happy that we took the hard road in many areas to develop and maintain our land, knowing that this efforts will eventually produce better results. Since we are family owned and operated we also maintain a self-sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using disposable products constantly, Sam and Tammy aims to use recyclable and reusable alternatives, even though they often require more effort.

Enjoy your stay with us!

Tammy and Sam allowed me to switch to the Tiny Fox and it was great.

Quiet, peaceful and super kind and helpful hosts. Sam and Tammy said they hoped we would meet again and I can assure them we will.

Amazing and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

For a few days of our vacation, I wanted to find a place off the beaten path, in the woods, close to the national parks. This was perfect. There is a bit of off-roading to get there, gravel roads going up and down some steep gradients. I have 4-wheel drive, not sure how easy it would be in a sedan. We lucked out too that no one was staying in the neighboring cabin. But be warned, the Tiny Owl is truly tiny with a ladder to get up to the sleeping loft. It worked out great for us, we are both about 5'10" and average size adults. But any larger in size might be a bit tricky, especially in the bathroom. We also lucked out it didn't rain so we were out and about most of the time, or sitting outside at the fire pit. We didn't do any of the spa extras but massage, soaking tub, and sauna were right there. We didn't use the paddle boat as it had water and lots of spiders in it (only suggestion would be to keep it covered when not in use). It was really hard to come back to civilization. We stayed in Nashville next and I think I would have rather stayed here! If this cabin is too small they have a few others that go up in size. Check them out! It was the best part of our trip!

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

Tammy and Sam's cabin is beautiful and comfortable. I have never stayed in anything tiny before staying in the Tiny Owl, but I would definitely do it again after this trip! The cabin is very nice and you get the same feel as you would camping in a tent (with some amenities). It wasn't just the cabin that made the trip worth while, but it was also the scenery that surrounded it. The cabin is nestled in the back of a woodsy area surrounded by nature. The owners have a farm that their cabins are on and have some of their farm-fresh eggs and other goodies for sale for their guests. The place really gives off a good vibe. Plus Sam and Tammy are respectful of your space, but are also quick to respond if necessary. I loved my stay here!

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the tiny owl!! It is in the most beautiful and peaceful setting, only about 45 minutes from all the action in Gatlinburg. The owners are so nice! We loved every moment! The tiny space took a moment to get used to, but once we did, we did not want to leave. I highly recommend this place to everyone!

This place was the perfect getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my girlfriend was looking for a secluded cabin for a getaway. The tiny owl was the perfect place. We loved the view and being surrounded by woods. We enjoyed a couple nights by the campfire and fixed dinner over the fire one evening. The owners were awesome!! Couldn’t ask for anyone nicer!! We are definitely looking forward to coming back as soon as possible.
