About the property

2 1/2 Acres In The Hat Rapids Flowage Wilderness

A Wildlife Paradise on Hat Rapids flowage!

Set on 2 1/2 Acres in the Hat Rapids Flowage wilderness, 'Pine Hill House' is secluded on its own cove with a West view across 200 yards of water to a densely wooded hillside. To the North are 6 to 7 miles of some of the loveliest water sights you'll ever see.

Beautiful wide water with several coves to explore are undisturbed by houses for several miles. Three eagles' nests usually offer bald eagle sightings. The wilderness teems with wildlife; river otters, beavers, muskrats, painted turtles, giant snapping turtles, loons, deer, raccoons. Summer evenings, a chorus of bullfrogs, bright sunsets entertain you as you enjoy the fire-pit on the waters' edge. In winter, you look across the frozen waters where big, healthy grey wolves oftentimes trot along.

PINE HILL HOUSE includes two Kayaks and a Canoe moored on the dock so you can paddle many MILES in the wilderness without passing other houses. We’ve watched Bald Eagles, Sand Hill Cranes, River Otters and a couple of Black Bears swimming across the flowage. One December, a pair of handsome Timber Wolves trotted by on the frozen lake. The serenity of the waterscapes and the still quiet around our house make a visit truly memorable. The fire pit on the bank, high swing out over the water, and the peaceful snoozing on the hammock make for repeat visitors. Our river setting is featured on the Wisconsin River Cruises which pass by every day. They chose the most beautiful landscape for their tours.

We hope you enjoy PINE HILL HOUSE and will return next year.

About Peter

Previously our property was listed for rent through a realtor. We decided to manage the VRBO listing ourselves in 2015, and unfortunately we had to let the old listing expire (listing was on the realtor's VRBO account) along with all the great reviews! We reached out to past guests to post their reviews from the old listing.

Peter purchased this house in 2004

Why Peter chose Rhinelander

We decided to build a vacation home on water, facing West for the sunsets and breezes , that was isolated and close to home. We lucked into this gorgeous site which added additional benefits , like, beautiful riverscapes and an abundance of wildlife. It replaced vacation homes we had in Captiva Island, Florida, the mountains of North Carolina, and Hilton Head Island, SC. It is the favorite of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

What makes this house unique

Very private, yet only 15 minutes to town.

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family of four (myself, my wife, my 18 year old daughter, and my 14 year old son) and my parents enjoyed a wonderful week on a secluded part of the Wisconsin River. We felt like we had the entire river to ourselves aside from the occasional boat and the daily river cruise out of Rhinelander. It is very peaceful and wildlife is abundant. The dock is very nice and there are spots for a couple of boats. The house is amazing! There are three levels with plenty of space for everyone. There are plenty of beds, chairs and couches and dining places. The house has everything you could ask for and more! It is clean and well-maintained. There are multiple kayaks and a canoe available to use. The owner replied promptly to emails and emailed during the week to see how we were doing. We would like to come back again and would highly recommend this rental to others.

Great place inside and out

  • 5 of 5

We fished up and down the Wisconsin River based from the property. The location was ideal as we never drove more than 30 minutes to any put in or take out. The house has lots of room, the outdoor space is great, and the flowage is right out the back door. Great natural landscaping as well.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

My family enjoyed staying here so much that it was the 3rd year we had returned to the property. We love the quiet and seclusion. The kids enjoyed canoeing, kayaking and just relaxing around the bonfire. The house has all the amenities needed; we loved it!

Great Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My visit to this property was a mini high school reunion with some other guys. We enjoyed bird watching, floating on the river , cocktails on the deck, going into town for dinner (Wisconsin is known for their Dinner Clubs), and finishing the evening in front of the fireplace. Great space to relax, great fun, great conversations, and a great getaway.
