About this property

Family-friendly, thoughtfully modernized, historic home in Harpers Ferry.

The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in 1890 in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.

Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.

The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the three bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.

The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is less than a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.

One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.

Fantastic family getaway
We absolutely loved our stay at the Spy House! It’s an absolutely perfect location in Harper’s Ferry to see and do everything. The house itself was so comfortable and perfect for a relaxing get away. The home reminded us of our former historic home and I was so impressed by the lovely decorative touches, and historic nature of the home with all of its charm was maintained with the perfect updates to make it comfortable for modern tastes. We had such an amazing experience and we will definitely be back and be telling our friends to stay at the Spy House for their next getaway!

Harpers Ferry visit
The house is wonderful. Very clean. The kitchen was nicely stocked with glassware and cookware. The location is perfect. We were just a short walk from town. Beds were comfortable, which is so appreciated! We will recommend!

January getaway
From the helpfulness of the owner to the comfort of the property, this was a perfect stay! One of the most comfortable places we have stayed -- an old house, modest size, but nicely renovated with attention to detail, from the kitchen, to the bathrooms, to the beds, to the seating to decor. Cozy even in a snowy January stay! The area has a lot to do and see. We hope to return to the Spy House in the future!

Lovely house
The Spy House was a great base in Harpers Ferry. Easy walking distance to everything - I definitely recommend Bolivar Bread - but on a quiet street. Everything inside was spotless and recently updated. The kitchen was well stocked and the den was a great space to curl up with a good book on a rainy day. I would definitely stay there again.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my house. I am a photographer and a home renovation geek. I bought this house which was a diamond in the rough. To make the space consistent with the way people now live, I opened up the first floor to make for a very social and inviting space. I have put countless hours of sweat equity into the house to make it what it is today. Please be respectful as it is more than just a typical rental property.

Why they chose this property

A friend who lives in town introduced me to Harpers Ferry about ten years ago. There are amazing hiking trails, swimming spots, fishing holes, vegetable stands, flea markets, antique shops and civil war sites. This is a wonderful, beautiful and peaceful community.

What makes this property unique

The house is located in the historic part of town know as Camp Hill. It is walking distance to the shops and sites of lower town as well as the train station. even on the busiest of summer days in town it stays quiet up here. you can sit out on the front porch in the swing and read a book, listen to the wind chimes and enjoy a cold drink.
