About Ellen and Mike Tomy

When Mike and I purchased Craven House, it had been neglected for many years. After a lot of hard work it is now reborn. It truly is a magical place and we love living here with our three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Katie, Chippy, and our newest, Bonny Blue.

Ellen and Mike Tomy purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Ellen and Mike Tomy chose Historic District

The Carriage House on Craven is central to all that is happening in Beaufort. During the many yearly festivals, parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind shops on Bay Street and enjoy fresh local seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully fitted kitchen is ready for you.

What makes this cottage unique

Set back from the street, the patio is a quiet place to sit and visit with friends or have a romantic dinner. Surrounded by historic homes and churches built in past centuries, one is taken back into the 19th century Old South. We live on the property and are at your beacon call anytime you need anything.

Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

The Craven Carriage House was the perfect spot for a couple's long weekend. It is beautifully decorated and has everything any 5 Star hotel would offer. The location is the best! We walked downtown to shops and restaurants, as well as along the water and through historic neighborhoods. The owners made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the rocking chairs, porch swing, and the owners cute dogs! I highly recommend this adorable rental!

House was clean and well decorated. Nice porch and patio with rocking chairs.

Kitchen was well equipped for eating in.

Quiet neighborhood, but a close walk to the center of town.

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at both the upper and lower accomodations for my son's graduation from the Marine Corp. The apartments are just wonderful and completely met all of our needs. The quality of the renovations are excellent, thorough and very well done. Beautiful decorating through out - very warm, antiques, great linens. Honestly felt like home. Great shower and beds. The owners are lovely, friendly and helpful and there is parking onsite. The location is perfect - across the street from bay, walking distance to restaurants, shopping, etc. Would not hesitate to stay here again!

Loved the location near everything, fine quality furnishings, upscale umbrellas (!) bed linens, kitchen items. Lovely owners. Very comfortable, not expansive. We enjoyed so much.

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about how wonderful the Carriage House was. Mike and Ellen were very friendly and thought of everything. The space was perfect, the bed was very comfortable, the decor made you feel as if you were stepping back in time while still being comfortable. The location allowed us to sit at Waterfront Park every evening and watch the sun set. We walked to stores, restaurants, parks, cemeteries, churches and both carriage and river tours. Thank your for sharing your little piece of paradise with others. The feel of Beaufort is like no other city we have ever visited and we loved everything!

Car: recommended

The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of the beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.
