About Ellen and Mike Tomy

When Mike and I purchased Craven House, it had been neglected for many years. After a lot of hard work it is now reborn. It truly is a magical place and we love living here with our three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Katie, Chippy, and our newest, Bonny Blue.

Ellen and Mike Tomy purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Ellen and Mike Tomy chose Beaufort

The Carriage House on Craven is central to all that is happening in Beaufort. During the many yearly festivals, parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind shops on Bay Street and enjoy fresh local seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully fitted kitchen is ready for you.

What makes this cottage unique

Set back from the street, the patio is a quiet place to sit and visit with friends or have a romantic dinner. Surrounded by historic homes and churches built in past centuries, one is taken back into the 19th century Old South. We live on the property and are at your beacon call anytime you need anything.

Car: recommended

The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of the beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.

Charming, comfortable, and a very short walk to the waterfront.

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this renovated carriage house. Very well maintained and comfortable. The owners were more than happy to share preferred restaurants, local activities, and where to purchase items we neglected to bring.

Great lower level of vintage cottage. Extremely charming and well-kept. All the modern amenities too! Can walk to many great restaurants in downtown Beaufort.

Absolutely Lovely

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay while exploring the low country of South Carolina. Craven house is a beautiful place to wake up each morning, great spot to enjoy your morning coffee. Regardless of where we went during the day we were always ready to return "home". Ellen and Mike have truly created a welcoming place for those fortunate enough to visit the town of Beaufort, southern hospitality at it's best. Evening strolls through the historic neighborhoods and swinging on a porch swing at the waterfront were the best!

Weekend stay in Beaufort, South Carolina

  • 5 of 5

Carriage House was clean and the perfect size for a couple. We parked our rental car on the property. Downtown Beaufort was walking distance and we had exceptional dinners at two of the local restaurants (Wren and Saltus Grill). The restaurants were recommended by the owners. Beautiful quaint town with nice views of the river. We rented bikes and took a ride on the Spanish Moss Trail from Port Royal, which is only a 10-minute drive from Beaufort. If we are in the area in the future, we would rent this Carriage House again.

Cozy place in an excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage was well equipped with everything you could possibly think of. The location was ideal...just a block to the waterfront and in walking distance to The Point.
