Sunny in-town home built in 1850. Neighborhood is mixed, locals and summer residents. One mile to swimming quarry. One mile to Lane’s Island nature walk. Vinalhaven is a place to escape mainland life and go back in time to a simpler way of life. Slanted floors, galley kitchen with lobster pots and everything needed for cooking. Loads of interesting books and games (owners are book people). In-town, near amenities, ferry. Strict enforcement of maximum occupancy two adults with one child 12 or under. No pets. We limit adults to minimize wear and tear. If you have three adults or more, or a pet, book a larger freestanding house on the island. If you plan to do a lot of cooking or expect a modern place, this is not for you. The kitchen is small. The floors are slanted wide pine.
One bedroom upstairs has twin beds, bureau, and chaise longue; the other double bed is at the top of the stairway landing, with a small desk and lots of morning sun. There is a bathroom upstairs as well as downstairs. The downstairs one has a shower stall. Private entry, no interaction with owners needed but we are available to offer local suggestions or for other questions. The owners reside in a separate closed-off space.
Walk to town and ferry, which makes life easier during peak months if you decide to park at the Rockland ferry lot. We can pick you up at ferry if we are available. Rustic two-story 1850s farmhouse-style with wide pine (some squeaky) floors throughout, ideal for those looking for authentic Maine island charm. Old-fashioned glider out front next to rhododendron and rose bush gets morning and midday sun. So quiet with the sound of the wind and rustling leaves and seagulls.
One double bed and two comfy twin beds in separate room. Located in residential location near the Historical Society up on the hill for easy walking to Main Street restaurants, shops, and ferry. Near water, but not on water, with limited Carvers Cove views from upstairs bedrooms. Good neighborhood for walking, great harbor views from nearby Blueberry Lane scenic overlook. Walk to breathtaking Lane's Island Preserve, quarry, or rent bikes and kayaks in town at the Tidewater Inn. This is not a good choice for people who are expecting a modern "fancy" place. There are plenty of lamps, books, games and the kitchen is well-stocked including lobster pot, coffee maker, and most cooking needs. We provide bedding and towels. Orbi-boosted Wifi throughout the entire space. AT&T has cell towers on the island and is the best choice for cell service. New hot water heater and Toyostove heating unit in 2020.
