About Judith Ronning

My grandparents were settlers here, in the winter I often wonder why they stopped here. But in the summer, you forget about the long winters and enjoy the beautiful lake, the cool evenings and all the birds and wildlife. The cry of the loons in the evenings is unforgettable. Eagles soaring overhead, a beautiful sight. The beavers swimming by, looking for more tender trees. One morning I awoke and they had taken my apple tree, a crab apple tree and a sugar maple! Now I plant my fruit trees far from the lake shore. I love gardening! Every time a birch tree died, a new garden was birthed in the rich soil. We love people and we love sharing this special spot with our guests who quickly become our friends.

Judith Ronning purchased this cabin in 1982

Why Judith Ronning chose Minnesota

My husband's father bought this land back in the 50's. So we sit nestled in on land between his brother's and his sister's. It is a quiet haven, tucked in behind an island in a little bay. Years ago before everyone had GPS's, boats would come flying through here, thinking they were heading for TimBucTu and the Narrows but these days it is quiet. On opening fishing though there are always 4-5 boats in our little bay. Most of the summer we have fishing boats out front. One only needs to row out a ways in our 16-foot rowboat, available to our guests, and go fishing with the best of them!

What makes this cabin unique

"So peaceful," that is the comment we often hear as people step through the breezeway and see the setting, the gardens and Lake Vermilion. The breezeway is a comfortable sheltered spot to observe the lake, make and enjoy dinners on the grill. And everyone goes for the swing chair. "Room with a View," that was the name of a movie and I feel like that is what best describes our guest quarters, an awesome view from every window.

Warm Winter Get-away

  • 5 of 5

We went skiing on the frozen lake, lit fires in the wood burning stove, sweat in the sauna and cooked delicious meals in the kitchen of this charming little garage-turned-cozy-cabin. The perfect get-away for 2 people. The owners were kind, making sure there was enough wood for the fire, and the whole process was really easy and low key. Highly recommended!

Perfect get a way for a couple

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent two weeks at the cottage. It was perfect for the two of us. Everything was as we expected and the owners were very accommodating.

a little slice of heaven on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Terrific place to stay to enjoy the lake. The rental has everything you need plus extras to boot: kayaks, swimming hole, plus a campsite with a tent. We brought our fishing boat and spent most off our time on the water. It was a great get-a-way mini vacation for the two of us. We can't wait to return next summer.

Lovely place

  • 4 of 5

This vacation spot is ideal for 2 couples, or a family with 2 same-gender kids who don't mind sharing the pull-out couch for sleeping. A short walk from the cabin there is a good-sized tent with comfortable, mattressed cots and sleeping bags provided for an extra person or two. (The tent didn't leak, but you could feel a little mist during a downpour.) Privacy could be an issue, since there is no door or curtain between the bedroom and the living room. We enjoyed the little sauna (room for 4) and the swimming area is very nice. At the time of this writing there is no guest instruction notebook, so be sure to ask about details such as check-out time, availability of hot water, what to do with garbage, where to put dirty linens, use of BBQ, where to find additional toilet paper and garbage bags, etc. Kitchen supplies were adequate (no cheese-grater, though :-) Flour, sugar, oil, salt and pepper were available. Conversations with Judith were very pleasant, and she allowed us to pick the raspberries in her patch right outside our door.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! A cheese grater has been added to the kitchen equipment and I will prepare an instruction booklet right away. The tent was just for a little additional fun, not listed as an amenity. It will be coming down soon. Thank you again, Judith

Exquisite Lake View !

  • 5 of 5

Judith was a very gracious hostess. She provided everything we needed. We really enjoyed the use of the kayaks and canoed whenever we wanted. Great, secluded getaway! We look forward to coming again.

Very nice and clean

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very pleasant and had everything we needed. The unit was small but perfect sized for a couple. The carpentry was nice and we were afforded plenty of privacy when we wanted it and conversation when Judy was outside. We decided it would be too small to bring our two teens with for a return trip. The dock was nice and she had a battery charger cord run down to it for our boat. Although we didn't use the kayaks and boat they were nice. I would recommend for a cozy getaway.
